Jay Fai (ร้านเจ๊ไฝ) is no doubt one of the most legendary Thai street food restaurants in Bangkok - some people are loyal fans, others say that it’s overpriced. It’s a Thai restaurants in Bangkok that I had been wanting to eat at for a long time, but never got around to it - partly because it is so expensive. So finally one day for lunch, Ying and I drove over to central Bangkok to try Jay Fai (ร้านเจ๊ไฝ) for the first time. But really quickly, about the name.... In Thai, Jay (เจ๊) means a Chinese Aunty and Fai (ไฝ) means a mole, yes a mole. What I can tell you first about the restaurant is that the owner is absolutely awesome. She wears ski goggles and a snow cap while she’s cooking, and she cooks over huge fire charcoal, fanning the flame as she expertly cooks. She’s also quite a character, and she loves to chat - so while I was filming she shared all about herself, and how her method of cooking her legendary Thai crab omelet ensures that it doesn’t soak up very much oil. It’s indeed the most amazing omelet you might ever see in your life. Crab omelet (ไข่เจียวปู) - You can either order the 800 THB or the 1000 THB crab omelet, I went with the 1000 THB. It’s huge, but only uses 2 eggs, but it’s packed with shell less crab nuggets. The omelet is cooked burrito style, and it’s massive. It’s a must order when you eat at Jay Fai (ร้านเจ๊ไฝ). Drunken noodles (เส้นใหญ่ผัดขี้เมาทะเล) - Her version of Thai drunken noodles (pad kee mao sen ya) is the dish I would come back for over and over again. Again, it’s not cheap, but the quality of seafood and the seasoning that she uses is superb. The balance of flavor will blow your mind - it’s really the best plate of Thai drunken noodles I’ve had in Bangkok. Tom yum goong (ต้มยำกุ้ง) - For our final dish we tried Jay Fai (ร้านเจ๊ไฝ) tom yum goong. Again, massive prawns and seafood were used, and she cooked it over charcoal. It was awesomely delicious, sour, and flavorful. Conclusion: Eating at Thai street food restaurants like this can be all about expectations. You have to go in knowing the prices are very high and you’re going to spend way more money than going to any other corner Thai street food restaurant. That being said, it’s a one-of-a-kind historical culinary legend of a restaurant in Bangkok. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience eat at Jay Fai (ร้านเจ๊ไฝ), and it was an honor to stand there and talk with Jay Fai (ร้านเจ๊ไฝ), and then eat her cooking. Located on the Istrian peninsula, this seaside town is home to Roman ruins, ancient temples, and some delicious pizza. The town won us over right from day one, so in this video, we’re going to take you on a tour of Pula and show you some of the highlights: The amphitheatre was built during the reign of Emperor Vespasian, at the same time the Colosseum in Rome was going up. What’s even more shocking is how well preserved it is; this is the only remaining Roman amphitheatre with all four side towers and three stories still standing. As a travel tip, if you visit during the summer months, you can catch numerous events at the amphitheatre, including concerts, movie screenings, and even reenactments of games from Ancient Rome. When it comes to boat tours, the most popular destination is , a group of small islands that sit out on the Adriatic Sea. The islands have a few archaeological and cultural sites but though admission to the park used to be free, these days you have to join one of the official excursions arranged by the park or local tourist agencies. As for Pula Cathedral, it turns out it was closed when we tried to visit, so we can only show you the outside. After all that wandering around town, it was finally time for lunch. We arrived at Jupiter Pizzeria just as they were opening and didn’t waste any time grabbing a seat on their outdoor terrace. The fortress we spotted turned out to be Pula Castle, also known as Kaštel. Located atop a hill right in the centre of Pula, this fortress was built by the Venetians during the 17th century. Admission was 20 kuna per person and there were two different museums exhibits to visit, however, we’d argue that the main draw are the views. Over the course of the centuries, the Temple of Augustus has seen many uses from a Christian church to a grain storehouse, but at present, it houses a very small 1-room museum – and when we say small, we mean you can visit in 5 minutes! The Roman Mosaic is just a short walk from the Forum, so it’s worth the little detour down back streets. This incredible well-preserved floor depicts the Punishment of Dirce, which is straight out of Greek mythology. The issue is that many people do not know the difference between active and static stretching and the impact that doing one over the other before your workout can be having on your strength and ultimately your size gains. In this video, I’m going to show you why you should not do static stretching that you hold for any length of time before you train if you want to get maximum muscle growth and strength. The issue boils down to neural efficiency. When you perform any movement, it doesn’t matter if it is something you would define as an exercise, your body has a stored pattern for accomplishing it. It does this in order to create movement efficiency. If I drop a pen on the ground and I bend to pick it up, your body doesn’t have to think about every single joint component of motion that is needed to get you down to the ground. Instead, it thinks of the “squat” movement in general and is able to instantly help you down to the floor without wasting any time. When you perform static stretching of muscles that are going to be trained in your workout that day, you are negatively interfering with your stored engrams or motor patterns. While increasing flexibility and the length of a muscle can be a very good thing long term, doing stretches just prior to your workout that temporarily do this can have this associated downside that winds up costing you gains from your workouts. The length tension relationship between muscles is something that you have that is unique to you and different from one muscle to the next. While not all length tension relationships are optimal, it is still what your body is used to and what is being used by it when calling on the stored motor pattern when performing a movement. Static or passive stretching before a workout will temporarily disrupt these patterns by affecting the actin and myosin cross bridging. If you were going to use this method of warming up for a workout, you would then have to spend a significant amount of time prior to starting your training just to attempt to re-integrate the movements to better match up to the engrams stored for that movement pattern or exercise. In this case, I would suggest doing two or three light sets of each of the exercises you were going to do in that workout after completing the static stretching routine. This could add at least a half an hour to your workout when you account for the stretching and the re-integration. There is a better way. You can instead opt to perform active or dynamic stretching for the muscles that are going to be involved in the exercises you are about to perform that day. These are movement stretches that take your joints actively into new ranges without ever holding for any length of time. The disruption to the muscles is greatly minimized and your ability to feel loose and perform at a high level is maintained. That said, static stretching is still vital and has a place in your routine. The best thing to do is do your stretches for the muscles that you worked that day, later on at night before you go to bed. When you sleep, your body heals itself and the muscles that were trained tend to heal a bit shorter. You can lessen this shortening effect by performing the static stretches just before laying down. When you wake up the next morning you should not only feel more loose but you will likely have less muscle soreness as well.
