How Good Is The Slingerbag Tennis Ball Machine? Play Test and Review The slingerbag tennis ball machine is the newest personal ball machine on the market. Coach Simon Konov of Top Tennis Training puts it to the test in this video, shows you five of the very best tennis drills you can do using the slinger bag tennis ball machine, and gives his very honest review of the machine. Like many of the tennis ball machines on the market, the slinger has its pros and cons, which we ll cover in the video. One of the major advantages that the slinger has over other tennis ball machines is it s incredibly high topspin rates. You feel as though you are playing against a very high-level tennis player. Most machines will give you some topspin, but not as much as the slinger. For that reason, it can be one of the best training tools for tennis players to work on dealing with aggressive topspin and high balls in tennis. Top Five Tennis Drills For The Slinger: Drill One - With the insane topspin levels that the slingerbag produces, the first drill we re going to do is work on moving back behind the baseline to let the ball drop. When the ball is at your ideal contact point, hit your tennis forehand or backhand crosscourt. After you hit your shot, move in, and recover a good location just behind the baseline before the next ball is fed. Aim for two net levels and high levels of topspin with this drill. Drill Two - Now that we ve worked on creating space by moving back, the next step is to work on taking these shots on the rise. This means that you ll have to stay close to the baseline and shorten your swings slightly, in order to time the contact out in front. Also, lower your center of gravity by staying low. Drill Three - Dealing with high balls in tennis can be a real nightmare, however, we have options. One of them is to use your forehand and backhand slice. Here we ll start just behind the baseline and move back, creating some space and allowing the ball to drop. Aim your slices crosscourt and then recover just behind the baseline. Drill Four - With the high levels of topspin that the slingerbag produces, a great drill to do at the net is work on picking up those low volleys that dip in your feet. Set the machine to feed balls that bounce just inside the service boxes. Work on hitting either a low volley or a half-volley. Aim down the line with these volleys. Really focus on getting down low using a lunge position in the legs. Drill Five - Producing power. Now we re going to set up the machine on the same side as the player, with feeds being much slower. We ll hit drive volleys on both the forehand and backhand sides. Focus on producing good racket head speed and driving into the shot using your legs. Slinger Bag Pros and Cons: The amount of topspin the slinger produces is insane, it feels like you re hitting against a very high-level player, The machine has a good speed range, going from 10 mph up to 45. On full speed, the power might not look extraordinary but the bounce then quickly changes your outlook on that. It kicks off the court at very high speeds. Everything is built-in, so even though it s a ball machine, it s very convenient to transport and move around on the court with the wheels. You can change the height of the feeds, perfect when you want to work on various contact zones and on the different types of volleys at the net The tempo can be adjusted, going from a very low tempo to a very intense one, so if you re working on your technique you might slow down the feeds, having more time between each shot and if you re working on volleys or reactions, you might ramp up the tempo so you have very little time between shots. Battery life is 5 hours. The price - $550-850 is very reasonable for a machine of this quality. Cons: The fact that you can t adjust topspin levels is one of the negative things. You might want to work on dealing with flat balls or dealing with underspin, but that s not an option. The power only going up to 45 mph.
