If you live with a dog, you probably have noticed that your pup barks at some people, but is completely cool with others. Why do dogs have different reactions to different people? Do they know something about them that you don’t? In this video, we will tell you why your dog barks at some strangers, but not others. And wait until you hear what we have to tell you about why dogs bark at certain dogs. That’s a lot more surprising than you may think. People Smell Dogs see the world primary through scent and a dog’s sense of smell is between 10,000 to 100,000 times better than that of humans. Because of this disparity, it’s hard to imagine all the information that our canines can gain from a person’s scent. People have different scents and your dog may bark at them because their smell could be off-putting to your dog. For example, your dog may bark at some people because they have the scent of another dog or cat on their clothing. It’s especially true when someone has a dog of their own. Or they may have the scent of something unfamiliar, like cigarettes. Beyond that, some dogs have an aversion to strong smells---like vinegar, perfume, alcohol, citrus, or bleach. You may think the scents will fade away after a few hours, but your dog will be able to smell them for a long time afterwards. Likewise, pheromones that the person is giving off could be alerting the dog of a threat as well. It gets even more interesting. Dogs can sense when we are nervous because our bodies produce certain stress-related chemicals and hormones that have distinctive odors. When someone who makes you nervous approaches you, your dog may realize that you are not at ease, and they bark at them to ensure you stay safe. A Person’s Looks Dogs don t see details or color as well as we do, but they do still depend on vision to some degree. This is why looks can set off different triggers in dogs. There can be something different with the person that unsettles your pup. The person may wear a hat, have a beard, talk loudly, wear baggy clothes, squeaky shoes or rattling jewelry. Some dogs feel afraid and insecure if a person’s features or movement style is unfamiliar to them, or remind them of a threat. Like a stranger who is standing in a way that appears imposing and aggressive to the dog, or a person who makes sudden movements. To avoid these situations, make sure your dog gets exposed to lots of different people. Now, let’s talk about why dogs bark at some dogs, but not the others. While humans communicate using words, dogs mainly communicate through their body language and scent. Your dog may bark at some dogs because they show threatening body language. You may not notice their body language, but subtle signs like freezing of the body, whale eyes, tense mouth, or wrinkled nose may be off-putting to your dog. And this is why some small dogs are aggressive toward big dogs. If your small dog barks at larger dogs, or is aggressive towards them, it could be because they feel threatened and are fearful of their imposing appearance. Dogs communicate with each other in ways that we don’t understand, that we are just completely blind about. A dog will see something in another dog’s body language or pick up scent clues that signal something the first dog either likes or dislikes. Dogs can sense those subtle body cues or scents from a significant distance away. Another reason that a dog may take an immediate dislike to another is that dog’s historical experience. If, for example, your pooch was attacked by a big white dog in the past, he may exhibit intense fear and aggression toward large white dogs Likewise, dogs may also bark at each other out of excitement. If another dog shows signs of excitement in their body language, like a wagging tail or bowing their front leg, your dog may bark at them to indicate their desire to play with them. But rest assured that you’ll know when your dog barks out of aggression versus excitement, as aggressive barking is often accompanied by growling or a tense body language. And it’s important to remember that although dogs are pack animals, it doesn’t mean they want to socialize with any dog. Think about it! Do you want to talk with any person you meet on the street? Just like humans, dogs simply don’t like bonding with certain dogs. If your furry friend is aggressive towards some dogs, don’t keep forcing them together expecting them to “warm up” to each other. And finally, many dogs bark at each other because they are being protective. This is especially true when other dogs are on their territory. Your dog is guarding you as a member of their pack.

In the wild, rabbits dig burrows to escape from predators and have a comfortable spot to rest. Beyond instincts, bunnies also dig for fun, or to occupy themselves when they are bored or stressed. Some rabbits dog to shorten their nails. What rabbits thump their foot? Among rabbits, thumping the back foot is a natural reaction to a threat that they may have seen, heard or smelled. Back leg stomping can also be a sign of annoyance in the rabbit world. If your bunny is feeling irritated about something, whether it s you stroking their back for too long, they may thump their feet to indicate feeling irked or uneasy at the moment. Why rabbits grind their teeth When a rabbit grinds their teeth, they are communicating enjoyment. This is a rabbit s way of purring. But teeth grinding can also be a sign of discomfort or pain. Grinding due to pain is often more frequent and louder than grinding due to contentment. Why rabbits get the zoomies Running around at fast speeds indicate a happy bunny and your rabbit is running around out of pure joy and excitement. Why rabbits lick Rabbits lick you for a lot of reasons. They may want to show you affection and love. They may even want to groom you to show that they care about your well-being. Or they may simply enjoy the taste of your skin as you may have the residue of some yummy treat on your skin. If your rabbit licks your clothes, they are probably showing you affection. Like chinning, licking is also a rabbit’s way to mark their territory, especially when the rabbit gives a few licks to the objects in the area. Licking in this way helps rabbits to spread their scent. Why rabbits twitch their nose. Twitching their noses helps rabbits to smell better. In rabbit body language, nose twitching is a sign of curiosity and alertness. If they’re curious about what’s going on, they waggle their nose fast to pick up the scents around them. Rabbits may also twitch their nose fast to regulate their body temperature and cool off. Why rabbits bite Rabbits bite for a lot of reasons. Some rabbits may give you an innocent nip to get your attention, like when you stop petting them. By biting, your bunny is asking you to keep petting her. Rabbits may also bite to stop unwanted actions or behaviors by humans or other animals Generally, rabbits bite to show dominance, defend their food, or protect themselves. Aggressive biting behavior can be prevented by spaying or neutering your bunny. Why rabbits nudge. Rabbits explore their environment by sniffing and nudging. They may nudge you to greet you, say Hello to you, or investigate you. They may even nudge to get your attention or demand to be groomed, like when they want you to pet them. However, a nudge can also mean, “you’re in my way!” or “Move please!”. Why rabbits growl Growling is a clear sign that your rabbit is angry or stressed. Why rabbits binky Binkying is a large jump in the air while the rabbit slightly twists its body or head at the same time. Rabbits binky when they feel very happy or excited. Why rabbits spray Some rabbits mark their territory by urinating on objects, other rabbits, people or everything in the range. This process is known as ‘spraying’. Spraying is often directed at vertical surfaces. Spraying a jet of urine on humans is usually the way rabbits show love for their owners. Neutering or spaying your rabbit is an effective way to prevent them from spraying urine. Why Rabbits twitch in their sleep When your rabbit is sleeping, you may notice head, cheek, or even full-body twitches. Rabbits dream during the REM stage of sleep, and those twitches are responses to whatever s happening in their dreams.

In this video, we ll talk about 20 common mistakes cat owners make. Washing their water bowl. A cat s sense of smell is 14 times better than that of humans. If you wash their water or food bowl, make sure not to use scented dishwashing liquids. Cats hate strong odors and these scents can discourage your pet from drinking water from their bowl. Toxic houseplants Some plants are toxic to cats. Cats may ingest toxic plant substances while they lick themselves because there can be pollen or seeds stuck in their fur. Among the most toxic plants are daffodils, English Ivy, azaleas, Calla lilies, aloe, begonias, and ficus. Giving bones to them Cooked bones are a serious danger to felines because they can splinter and get stuck in a cat s throat or stomach Essential oils and diffusers Essential oils can be toxic to cats whether ingested orally, applied to the skin, or simply inhaled. It’s because cats lack the enzymes that are needed to metabolize essential oils properly. ​ Ingredients matter Improper feeding can lead to obesity, malnutrition and many health issues. Always monitor the calories in your chosen pet food and adhere to the suggested serving sizes. According to the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention, over 50% of dogs and cats in the US are obese or overweight. Litter Box Mistakes As the rule of thumb, it’s best to have at least 1.5 litter boxes per cat. So, if you have one cat, you need two litter boxes; two cats, three litter boxes. it is important to invest in a good, fragrance-free cat litter box and place it in a quiet room that’s free of frequent activity. If your cat is litter trained but urinates on the floor, it’s usually either a sign of urinary tract infections, or a dirty litter box. Sudden change of diet. Sudden changes in a cat’s diet may result in vomiting, diarrhea, reduced appetite and a sick feline. Your cat should be transitioned slowly from one food to another. Plan on taking at least a week to transition your kitty from one food to another. Not training them Just like dogs, cats can be trained. Training your cat will improve your life and theirs, and enhance the bond between you. For example, you can train them to get off the counter, or not to scratch your furniture! Forcing them to interact with you Cats are very independent creatures. They don’t like to be smothered with affection and they need some personal space every now and then. Storing food in packaging it didn’t originally come in The food’s original packaging keeps it from going stale and drying out. it’s important to properly store and seal the cat food in an air-tight container so it doesn’t go rancid or lose its useful substances. Exercise for Cats Just like dogs, felines need regular exercise to work off extra energy and stay healthy! The best way to exercise a cat is by making them chase their favorite toys around the house. Interactive toys, like a wand toy with feathers, strings, or other prey-like attachments that evoke a cat’s predatory behavior are an excellent way to keep them fit. Feeding them milk Cats are lactose intolerant. In fact, cats will have a stomach problem within ten to twelve hours after consuming it. Not enough water Many cats don t like water so they don t drink enough of it. Because of this, they are more prone to developing urinary crystals and even kidney problems. More often than not, this can be prevented simply by adding wet food to your cat s diet. You can even add a little water to your cat’s food. And be sure to keep several water bowls in your home, and move their water bowl to somewhere that isn t alongside their food or litter box. Ignore their vomiting Some people think it s ok for a cat to vomit once a week, but it s not. While vomiting a few times a year or an occasional hairball is normal, vomiting once a week means there is a problem, and a vet visit is necessary. Neglecting Their Dental Hygiene Like humans, cats need regular dental care. Their teeth are often home to hundreds of bacteria and need to be brushed just like yours do. Rarely Visiting a Vet The only way to ensure that your pet is as healthy as they can be is by taking them to the vet for a checkup. An occasional checkup makes it easy to catch potential problems . You also want to make sure that your pet gets all of their vaccinations. Expecting a Cat to Not Harm a Smaller Pet A cat is very likely to kill smaller pets like rabbits, guinea pigs or hamsters because of their natural prey drive. Bathing Them Cats are excellent at grooming themselves and they rarely need to be washed. If you decide to wash them, once or twice a year is enough. Not avoiding hairballs To avoid the hairballs, you can brush your cat once a day and add more fiber to their diet. High-fiber diet improves the health of a cat’s coat and minimizes shedding. Declawing them Declawing is torturous to cats. It would be akin to cutting off our fingers at the last knuckle, leading to pain and mobility issues.
