Cute beagle dog sleeps and has a little afternoon nap. In this video you will see our beagle Smudge, curled up in a "beagle bagel". She had been out playing and walking earlier, but decided to have a little rest when she got home. Perhaps dreaming of all the fun she had while out! In the initial part of the video, depending on your speakers (you may need to turn up the volume), hopefully you will hear faintly the gentle sound of Smudge s sleepy breathing. We opted not to put music over it despite it s faintness in order to capture & share the moment in it s completeness. At times her nose twitches, or eyes move as she dreamily sleeps. In the latter part of the video you will see footage, both picture and video, of her asleep, accompanied by some gentle music (appropriately called "Lullaby"). Beagles sleeping are incredibly cute. Cyclone Dovi hit NZ last weekend, bringing lots of wind and heavy rain, and leaving behind slips, flooding, and in Smudge s garden it felled a large tree. It was loud when the tree fell, but fortunately did not damage any persons or beagles, nor any property. Once the stormy weather had subsided cute beagle Smudge was very interested in the tree, she has especially enjoyed sniffing around it, and chewing on some of the pieces of fallen branches. During the week we trimmed off the smaller branches and swept up the mess - here are some clips of Smudge investigating the fallen tree courtesy of the Cyclone. Smudge has discovered the paper bags from the supermarket. What fun! Smudge is delighted and knows just the game to play. Smudge plays with her ball at the dog park, a favourite game of hers. Beagle Smudge does some amazing catches of the ball, watching it intently a it moves through the air, timing her jumping and running to catch it. Sometimes however things don t go as smoothly, so Beagle Smudge tries for the ball but just misses it. This is captured in slow motion. This doesn t stop her though. This is from October last year when Smudge and her cousin Leo met up at the Wellington Botanic Gardens. Sadly her cousin passed over the rainbow bridge a few weeks ago and this was one of the last times she saw him. This video is mostly of Smudge at the gardens with a small section when Smudge first saw Leo and raced excitedly towards him. Cute Beagle Smudge was surprised by the sound of very noisy fireworks last Friday evening. (You may be able to hear them booming away, especially towards the end of the video). Her response was to bark enthusiastically at the sound. Smudge is very quick at raising the alarm when there is something a bit unusual and out-of-the-ordinary. If you love the sound of beagle dog barking, as we do, hopefully you will also like Smudge s very cute, loud, and quite ferocious beagle barks! A bit of background: Last weekend Matariki was celebrated here in Aotearoa New Zealand. In short, it is the traditional marking of the New Year by NZ Māori, in the heart of a Southern Hemisphere winter. This year was the first year it was also a public holiday weekend. As part of the festivities there was a fireworks display in the harbour when it got dark on Friday evening. Smudge is a morning beagle, so she is usually fast asleep on other fireworks occasions such as the January celebration of the New Year, or Guy Fawkes in November, when our daylight hours are so much longer and the fireworks don t start until much later in an evening. So there she was, just enjoying an evening nap by the fire....when all of a sudden came an unexpected and loud banging. We didn t see any of the fireworks display but we certainly knew when it was going on!
