2016 Nissan GT-R NISMO - N Attack Package Review - Dominate The Nurburgring. The Nissan GT-R set a lap record at the infamous Nurburgring posting a time of just over 7 minutes, 8 seconds in 2013. How did the GT-R manage to maintain an average speed of 107 mph for just under 13 consecutive miles? Well they did it using the parts they’re now offering in the NISMO N Attack Package. Let’s brake this down into the various sections which received upgrades, starting with the engine and powertrain. The engine for this unit uses a unique dedicated ECM for proper tuning, carbon fiber intercooler piping, a steel plate mechanical 1.5 way mechanical limited slip front differential, and a 2 way carbon plate mechanical rear differential. The difference between the 1.5 way and 2 way differentials is that a 2 way will provide more locking pressure under deceleration. Moving on to the suspension and brakes, it’s important to understand the Nurburgring is a long, fast track with lots of heavy braking, and a fair amount of rough areas. Hence the GT-R N Attack features Ohlins height adjustable and four way damping adjustable shocks, similar to what is used on the GT3 Nissan GT-R. There are also upgraded sway bars, as well as an altered friction material for the front brake pads in order to deal with the high amount of heat rejection required for the ring. As far as the exterior, of course downforce is a must when you’re traveling at high speeds to maintain grip and stability. In the back is a dry carbon fiber wing with a two-point height adjustment mechanism, and a 12-point angle regulating mechanism, allowing for corrections to downforce and aerodynamics on the go. They’ve also added carbon front fenders, and a rubber front spoiler. Finally, on the interior, the GT-R is fitted with carbon fiber Recaro bucket seats as well as a carbon fiber bulkhead in place of the rear seats. So how much does all of this cost? Well Nissan has split it up into two packages, package A and package B, with Package A including all of the Nurburgring parts shown. For package A, it’s as much as $98,000, meaning you’re suddenly in a quarter of a million dollar Nissan GT-R considering the base price of about $150k for the standard NISMO GT-R. Perhaps a hard pill to swallow considering you could buy two base GT-Rs for the same price as the Nurburgring edition, but it’s impressive nonetheless just how fast this car can be. The test featured in the video is using the O2 sensor at wide open throttle to determine the cause of a low power complaint. This 2000 Mercedes Benz ML320 had very low power (will not go over 20 mph) with random and multiple cylinder misfire codes in memory. In this video I will show you how to prove these symptoms are caused by a lack of fuel, which led us directly to the MAF sensor. I will be showing you MAF data on the scan tool and also detailed testing of the sensor itself using a scope. You will not need expensive equipment to perform these tests. A basic scan tool that will provide generic data is really all that was needed. The scope stuff at the end is for those of us that cannot test a part enough before we condemn it as being bad. How adaptive cruise control works. Adaptive cruise control is one of the first steps in moving towards autonomous driving vehicles, as it allows the vehicle to regulate speed and braking on the highway to maintain a set following interval behind the detected car ahead. This video will look at how Honda implements this system on their vehicles, as well as how Collision Mitigation Braking Systems work. Both systems rely on a millimeter wave radar as well as a monocular camera to detect objects ahead. So how does adaptive cruise control work? The primary purpose of the system is to travel at the speed selected by the driver, just like traditional cruise control. However, if the vehicle detects another car in front of it that is traveling at a slower speed, the vehicle will reduce its speed to match that of the detected car and a then maintain a selected interval behind the car. The system works by emitting radar waves which bounce off of vehicles ahead and return to the unit. This informs the system of the distance between the two vehicles; changes in that distance inform the system of the vehicles’ relative speeds. So how does the Collision Mitigation Braking System work? The goal of the system is to alert the driver if a collision with a detected vehicle is likely, and then to apply the brakes to reduce the severity of a collision if it’s unavoidable. The system scans up to 330 feet of the road in front of the vehicle, and works in three stages if the driver begins to come close to a vehicle detected ahead.
