Can Tesla s Cybertruck Actually Tow Long Distances? Physics can explain why today s electric cars are bad at towing. Subscribe for new videos every Wednesday! - https://goo.gl/VZstk7 Electric cars are great for many things. They re fast, they re insanely efficient, and they can start with a full charge every morning, eliminating your need for "fuel stops" depending on your daily commute. Unfortunately, electric cars do come with their problems. The two main issues holding back electric cars from a much larger market share, in my opinion, are price, and energy density. Battery packs are massive, heavy, and don t store all that much energy. As a result electric cars are very heavy, and don t have much energy on board. Thankfully, electric cars make up for their lack of energy by being insanely efficient, so electric cars can still travel very far distances before needing to recharge. But what if we add a trailer into the mix, and tow with our electric vehicle? In this video, we ll work on the math on whether or not towing with today s electric cars is feasible. The Porsche Taycan Turbo Is The Least Efficient Electric Car (EPA) Subscribe for new videos every Wednesday! - https://goo.gl/VZstk7 Recommended Books & Car Products - http://amzn.to/2BrekJm EE Shirts! - http://bit.ly/2BHsiuo The 2020 Porsche Taycan Turbo has the lowest MPGe rating of all current 2019 and 2020 model year electric cars in the United States according to the EPA. For gasoline supercars, efficiency doesn t really matter, and fuel economy is often pitiful. However, with today s current battery technology, electric car efficiency is extremely important regardless if it s an economy car or a supercar. Porsche enthusiasts may not be worried about the energy bills or even the 201 mile range of their brand new electric car, but there are metrics about inefficiency that are hard to ignore for any enthusiast. This video will also compare the Porsche Taycan s battery strategy to the Tesla Model S. Differences in battery strategy also lead to differences in brake pedal, accelerator pedal, and regenerative braking strategies between the two cars, which will be discussed in the video. Why Do Two Engines With Equal Turbo Boost Make Different Power? How does elevation affect a car s performance? NA vs Turbo Subscribe for new videos every Wednesday! - https://goo.gl/VZstk7 If two engines have the same boost, and the same displacement, why does one make more power than the other? The answer is complex, but ultimately it comes down to how much air (specifically oxygen) can you get inside an engine s cylinders. The more air you have, the more oxygen you have, thus you can inject more fuel and produce more power. But manifold pressure is only one measurement that will determine how much oxygen you ll have within your combustion chamber. Temperature and humidity also play a role on the engine s performance. You need to look at manifold density, instead of simply boost, to really know how much air the engine is getting. Not to mention ignition timing, air/fuel ratios, and the efficiencies of the turbos you are using. This video will break it all down from beginning to end! Humidity Effects On Performance: I spoke with a Ford engineer about how humidity affects horsepower. He stated that humidity acts like EGR. For example, combustion with 1% water by mass (not to be confused with relative humidity percentage) is nearly equivalent to using 1.7% EGR. As humidity increases, you increase your mass flow rate, which increases heat capacity, which causes cooler combustion and reduces combustion pressures. New project cars starts now! I bought one of my absolute favorite cars for under $20k. Sponsored by eBay Motors, download the app here! - https://ebayvehicle.com/app/engexplained Subscribe for new videos every Wednesday! - https://goo.gl/VZstk7 I went shopping for an Acura NSX. I found one from 1992 in red; it was absolutely gorgeous, low miles, and had a two-owner clean history. I went for a test drive, and that s where things fell apart. I had in my head how legendary of a car this was, but it unfortunately didn t live up to my expectations. Don t get me wrong, the NSX is quite good. The shifting is absolutely perfect, the torque curve genuinely impressed me for a relatively low powered engine, and the handling was without a doubt quite solid. However the steering and the braking left a lot to be desired, which I was shocked by, considering the manual steering rack. Perhaps I just caught a lemon, but left a bitter taste that turned me away from the car. So to my true love I went, and I absolutely love it. Check out the video for the full breakdown! Can Entry Ignition Save Combustion Engines? New Efficient Technology! How Entry Ignition (EI) overcomes the flaws of SI, CI, and HCCI engines. Why Combustion Engines Ain t Dead Yet - https://youtu.be/Hatav_Rdnno How Mazda s SPCCI Engine Works: https://youtu.be/yNSxow3W7ek How do Entry Ignition (EI) engines overcome the biggest flaws of combustion engines? We know that Spark Ignition (SI) engines are inefficient, we know that Compression Ignition (CI) engines have bad emissions, and we know that Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition (HCCI) engines are very difficult to control. The closest thing we have today are prototype engines using Mazda s Spark Controlled Compression Ignition (SPCCI), but even they still use spark plugs for transient engine conditions, and use spark plugs to initiate compression ignition. Entry Ignition is an all-new method of combustion that seeks to solve the problems of other combustion methods. How does it work? Watch the video to learn all about it! The Fastest Truck In The World - Ram TRX vs Ford Raptor Recommended Books & Car Products - http://amzn.to/2BrekJm Subscribe for new videos every Wednesday! - https://goo.gl/VZstk7 702 horsepower, 0-60 in 4.5 seconds, quarter mile in 12.9 seconds, and a top speed of 118 miles per hour. According to RAM it’s the quickest, fastest, and most powerful mass-produced truck in the world, so in this video we’re going to check out the clever engineering that has gone into it, how it may dominate the Ford Raptor (perhaps not for very long), and throw in a few bad jokes to keep our spirits high. If you’re wondering if Dodge, Ram, and the likes of Chrysler have run out of ideas, well, the answer is no, because they still haven’t fit the hellcat engine into their entire lineup. To recap, we have a hellcat challenger, charger, grand cherokee, and durango. I know we’re all patiently awaiting news of the Pacifica, but in the meantime the good news is the mission of hellcatting all the things draws closer to success with the launch of the Ram TRX. Under the hood is yes, the beautiful 6.2L Supercharged V8 you’ve come to love from the Hellcat lineup. It produces 702 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque in the TRX. And the engine is ready to be pushed, with a cast-iron block, forged-steel crankshaft, powder-forged connecting rods, and forged-alloy pistons. Some changes versus the other hellcats include a deep sump oil pan to keep the pickup tube in the oil under high g cornering, and the alternator has been moved higher to allow for 32 inches of water fording. The air entering the engine comes from two locations. Half of it is fed through the functional hood scoop, and the other half from a ram air intake at the front of the grill. If you have a big truck with a big engine making big power out in a desert environment, well, you’re going to need some serious filtering. That’s why the RAM Trex has not just one, but two air filters, each measuring about 8x12 inches. The airbox is mounted up top, helping allow for that high water fording depth, in addition to providing easy access for the owner to clean out the filter elements. Ram states based on industry-standard tests, the Trex can ingest dirty air and debris longer than any competitor before performance begins to diminish. Here’s a bonkers fact about how much heat this engine has to reject from the intake charge. At wide open throttle, the intercooler is rejecting 40 kilowatts of heat, all of this heat just from the intake air alone. As far as the four wheel drive system, there’s an active transfer case which has a low range with 2.64:1 gearing, and the transfer case will vary the torque split depending on which mode you’re in: auto, sport, snow, tow, mud, and baja. Torque is sent to the front and rear differentials, and in the rear is an electronic locking diff, paired with a Dana 60 solid rear axle with full-floating shafts. From the differentials, we move out to the wheels, which you can option beadlock wheels from the factory. The Trex has over 13 inches of wheel travel in both the front and rear. Up front is an independent, active suspension with forged aluminum upper and lower control arms designed to maintain the appropriate camber angles during their long travel. There are massive, 2.5 wide Bilstein adaptive dampers in both the front and the rear which use a single-piece aluminum construction with machined cooling fins for heat dissipation. In the rear is a 5-link coil suspension that allows the solid axle to travel up to 13 inches! Pairing the T-Rex side by side with the Ford Raptor, it’s pretty obvious what Ram was benchmarking. Many of the stats line up near perfectly, with the Trex having slight advantages. The most notable difference, really, is the power. 252 more horsepower, and 140 more lb-ft of torque versus the Raptor. Engineering Explained is a participant in the Amazon Influencer Program. The Track Only T.50s has more power, more downforce, and less weight. The Best Driver s Car Ever? T.50 Overview - https://youtu.be/Z-Z1lFK1b5o Subscribe for new videos every Wednesday! - https://goo.gl/VZstk7 Recommended Books & Car Products - http://amzn.to/2BrekJm EE Shirts! - http://bit.ly/2BHsiuo The Gordon Murray Automotive T.50s is the track-only version of their latest supercar. It has a 4.0L naturally aspirated V12 engine producing 720 horsepower, it weighs less than 900 kg, and it creates over 1500 kg of downforce. That s enough downforce to even drive upside down. Murray: “Designing the racing car’s aerodynamics has been extremely rewarding. My love for motorsport really fueled the development of this car. The aerodynamics are so effective that the T.50s would be capable of driving upside down, and could do so at as little as 175mph.” GMA Press Release: "Gordon Murray Automotive has announced a racing-focused version of the T.50 supercar that will be even lighter, faster, and more powerful. With all of the road-going T.50 supercars selling out within 48 hours of the global premiere, customer demand has turned to the 25 super-exclusive and highly-individual racing models. Priced at £3.1m (before taxes) the racing variant – codenamed T.50s – weighs just 890kg, while its Cosworth GMA V12 engine develops even more power. The new car also features a 1,758mm-wide delta wing mounted to the rear of the car, which works with the rear-mounted fan, a new front splitter, underbody aerofoil and adjustable diffusers to generate more than 1,500kg of downforce – 170% of the weight of the car. The new car’s historically-significant official name will be announced later this year at its global reveal. More than half of the exclusive production run has already been sold – before any details were released. Murray now expects interest to soar as prospective owners hear of the boundary breaking performance potential of the T.50s. Professor Gordon Murray: “With an unwavering focus on performance, and free from road-going legislation and maintenance considerations, the T.50s will achieve astonishing performance on track, demonstrating the full extent of the car’s capabilities. We’ve thrown everything at pushing this car beyond the levels of anything that’s been done before – it’s a celebration of British engineering and our team’s extensive motorsport experience.” The extensively re-engineered T.50s features hundreds of significant revisions for race and track use over the road-going T.50. The stripped-back interior highlights the track focus and contributes to the new car’s 94kg weight loss. This enhanced lightweighting and the car’s phenomenal downforce ratio will ensure the car performs like nothing else on a racing circuit." 4 Ways Hyundai s Veloster N DCT Outperforms The Manual Transmission Version Hyundai Veloster N DCT Features vs 6MT - Sponsored by Hyundai. Subscribe for new videos every Wednesday! - https://goo.gl/VZstk7 The 2021 Hyundai Veloster N has stepped up the game, especially with the 8-speed DCT. It now features N Grin Shift, N Power Shift, N Track Sense Shift, and launch control. Now these may sound like video game features, but that’s kinda what Hyundai is going for here with the experience, and the good news is each of these features actually have tangible performance improvements that they provide for the car. From a performance standpoint, these features set the dual clutch Veloster N apart from the manual transmission version. N Grin Shift The whole idea of N Grin Shift is to temporarily give you more performance. Pressing a button on your steering wheel allows your engine to increase boost for up to 20 seconds! N Power Shift This feature alone reduces the 0-100 kph time (or 0-62 mph time) by 0.2 seconds. It s like power shifting in a manual transmission, except you ve got a wet, multi-plate clutch to handle the driveline shock! N Track Sense Shift N Track Sense Shift is a predictive shift logic that’s based on how you’re driving. If you start driving more aggressively, the system matches the gearbox response to your driving style. If you’re accelerating hard, turning at higher g’s, and braking hard, the system is going to use the most aggressive gear shift strategy possible. Launch Control (DCT) Now there’s another cool feature that differentiates the DCT model from the manual transmission, and that’s launch control. Both transmissions offer launch control, but there are several advantages with the DCT. It employs five techniques, which we ll break down in this video, to execute a powerful launch.
