https://carbuyingsupport.com/ The differences between a highway driven car versus a city driven car is one of the most important inspections to do before buying a used car. In this video Greg explains the importance of highway miles. This is one in a series of videos titled "greg s 7 trade secrets". Freeway miles are considered superior to city miles in just about every aspect. Every major and minor componant are used less as the car travels effortlessly down the freeway with everything running at optimum operating temperature. As a car cruises down the freeway the miles click away effortlessly without any strain on the engine, transmission, suspension, exhaust and just about everything other major and minor componant on a car. A city driven car will have punishing miles and a higher degree of usage than on highway car, from the engine, cold starts, potholes, curbs, stop and go, traffic lights, brake wear battery usage and frequent shifting. The car will age more quickly than a highway-driven. People generally look for a low mileage car as the single most important part of buying a car. It is not the miles that are so important as the type of miles. The interior of the car will also have more wear from city miles. If you think about it there will be over 10 times as much wear with the seats adjustments, door opening and closing, frequent window operation, blinker usage and a/c strain. A highway mile car will not age as quickly and will be more youthful. I walk you through the step by step inspection for highway miles in my how to inspect for highway miles video.

On this system the intake valve lift is varied by two different cam lobes. A low lift lobe and a high lift lobe. I misspoke in the video calling this a variable valve timing or VTEC mechanism. This system does not vary cam timing, but it does vary intake valve lift. What was unusual with this fault was when you have "circuit low" type codes, this is almost always an electrical problem to the solenoid or the solenoid itself is open. However everything tested fine electrically and we found that this engine was very low on oil. Once we added oil, these codes did not return.
