Charcloth is an organic material that has been cooked much like charcoal. When properly made the material will catch virtually any spark. This will allow you to use that non-functional butane lighter disabled by moisture or cold, or use a damp match that might spark, but not ignite. Charcloth should be in every survival kit, and here is how to make your own and at no cost.

Wherever you go fishing, part of the fun is eating what you catch. While I fully support the concept of catch-and release fishing, there are many prolific species of fish that can be harvested without damage to their population. Here s how to cook a fish outdoors using only aluminum foil, a knife and a heating source. Please order my book: "Bushcraft Basics: A Common Sense Wilderness Survival Handbook" at your local independent book store: https://www.indiebound.org/book/9781510751910 or on Amazon: https://tinyurl.com/bushcraft-basics-book or at Barnes and Noble: https://tinyurl.com/Barnes-and-Noble Thanks!

A stove fueled with biomass - twigs, sticks, pine cones, scrap construction wood etc - just makes sense. A quality biomass stove is a one-time investment, and there are no operating costs. In the aftermath of a disaster, the ability to purify drinking water by boiling water may be critical. For that, you need a container and an efficient heat source. You really don t want to run out of fuel!

There are a lot of "diamonds in the rough when it comes to cast iron at garage sales. If the items are particularly rusty, sandblasting at an auto body shop may be the next step.
