They re charismatic and cute, but the tree frogs that live in Cusuco National Park in Honduras are being decimated by chytrid fungus. The fungus has spread worldwide, causing hundreds of amphibian species to become endangered or even extinct. Biologist and National Geographic explorer Jonathan Kolby has set up HARCC, the Honduras Amphibian Rescue and Conservation Center, to study and treat these frogs. Wild Things: Wolves and bison roaming Germany, the lynx returning to the UK; as this report explores, endangered animals are being reintroduced to wild places as part of a radical and controversial idea called “re-wilding” "It ll be like the dodo, it ll be gone" warns Dr O Donoghue. He is fixated on saving one of the rarest animals in the world, the Scottish wildcat. But although support for the wildcat is strong, a local farmer has labelled O Donoghue "slightly delusional" for his dream of reintroducing predatory Lynx to the Scottish landscape. This report looks at both sides of the fight to repopulate Europe with beasts from the past.

Migrants from South East Asia and Africa are trekking through some of the most dangerous and uncharted jungle terrain on the Columbia-Panama border in a desperate bid to reach the United States. A report by SBS Dateline. Conventional methods of migrating to the US are becoming increasingly difficult. The Darién Gap is becoming a deadly and necessary means of passage for those fleeing persecution. Evelyn, from Cameroon, is fleeing Boko Haram: "They are killing all our brothers - we don’t have any choice but to go hide ourselves somewhere.” A Bengali asylum seeker is making the crossing to escape mutilation. "In Bangladesh they cut us... they chopped us and we had to leave. They would cut my hands and feet.” Some 25,000 migrants crossed into Panama last year, three times that of 2014. Previously, survivors of the trek who were caught would be released so long as they weren t on any government watch list. Now, the Panamanian President is cracking down and migrants will now be turned back into the jungle in the worst condition of their lives. Deadly Chickens (2015): Benin s impoverished population survive on imported, cheap frozen chickens from Europe and the US. For the countries of origin, it is a convenient way to offload tough old hens. While for the people of Benin, the cheap and widely available chicken is a welcome source of meat. "Laying hens are a bit tough for European tastes", says importer Kenneth Adiho, "but we love them". However, the imported meat has dealt a heavy blow to local farmers. Once a profession for young entrepreneurs, Agriculture is now doomed. "The importing of frozen chicken is killing the youth and they will react by flocking to the Western world", predicts one out-of-work farmer. In a country where nearly 50% are under 15 this could have serious implications. Moreover, defrosted, exposed to sunlight, and then refrozen, the poultry risks being infected by bacteria that can cause diseases like salmonella. There is yet to be a national survey on the dangers of the meat and in the markets sanitation inspections rarely take place.
