The Off Grid Pallet Wood Cabin build in the Forest continues. The aim of this wilderness project is to try and build a one man off-grid tiny house using free reclaimed pallet wood. The first stage of the build was to create a wood based platform or foundations for the cabin. We then built the side walls and frame for the cabin. This episode focuses on the cabin roof and how we went about building the roof. Unfortunately we only had two pieces of tin sheet for the roof, which mean that the roof is technically on the wrong way around. But it s ok as this cabin build is more about me spending time with my dad. We then began work on building a front porch using planks of pallet wood. All of the timber is reclaimed for free. The gender pay gap is not caused by women earning less than men for the same job. It is largely because women choose different careers and suffer a “motherhood penalty”’. It s because they re in different jobs. Women are in less senior jobs. In Britain, France and Germany, 80-90% of executive jobs are held by men. Women also tend to choose different occupations. In America over 80% of teachers, nurses, secretaries, and health workers are female and these jobs tend to be lower paid. Primary school teachers in the West earn nearly 20% less than the average graduate job. Nurses earn less than police officers. Cleaners less than caretakers. Women are as ambitious as men. They earn the majority of university degrees. In America, they now ask for promotions as often as men. But it s the price women pay for motherhood that holds them back. In Britain, 70% of mothers reduced their working hours or switched to a less demanding job compared with 11% of fathers. In Australia it s 56% of mothers and 19% of fathers, while in France 55% of mothers scaled back compared to 13% of fathers. When an American women goes back to work her salary is on average lower than it would have been if she hadn t had a child. The race for gender equality is far from over. It marks the turning point of history. Initially we took the bark and soaked for 7 days. Then we boil them for 8 hours. we pounded to produce pulp. We add Ca (OH) 2 lime to make white substance. we dried paper on hot stone. With the primitive technology we have created ancient writing paper. The discovery was made by Pan-STARRS - the Panoramic Survey Telescope and Rapid Response System: a group of telescopes that constantly monitor the sky for moving or variable objects like asteroids or comets, It was initially thought to be a new comet, but after 34 days of follow up observations and a bit of orbital mechanics, it became abundantly clear that we were looking at the first object ever observed that came from outside our solar system. The mysterious object has been dubbed 1I: the first object in a brand new International Astronomical Union class, with “I” standing for “interstellar”. 1I also scored a more poetic name: Oumuamua, from the Hawaiian meaning “a messenger from afar arriving fast”. Known as C/2017 U1 PANSTARRS, the object was moving quickly through the Solar System, on a path that would take it out into deep space. Astronomers were happy to oblige, providing dozens of observations within a few days, confirming that yes indeed, we were looking at the first asteroid that had come from interstellar space. It whipped around the Sun, and then continued on its hyperbolic orbit out into deep space again. It passed near the Earth on October 14, then crossed the orbit of Mars on November 1st, by May 2018 it’ll be farther than Jupiter, and get past Saturn in early 2019. Astronomers around the world have been making continuous observations of the asteroid, using some of the largest telescopes on Earth and in space. But they’ve got to work quickly, by mid-December, it’ll be too dim to observe with any of our instruments.
