A "Seepage Basin" is also known as a "Sip Well" or "Coyote Well" and it is a viable technique for getting water that is just below the surface that you cannot access otherwise. We continue to build a bushcraft viking house using hand tools only. Part 6 focuses on building the bark roof for the viking house. The hand tools we use in for this project is a viking axe, hammer, auger, saw, drawknife and a few others. We use bark from cedar logs for the shingles for the roof of the house. We tile the bark and use tacks and nails to secure it to the rafters and timber frame. We had to use a wood ladder to get up onto the roof of the house. Once we were finished building the bark roof, we focused on digging a tunnel to the viking long pit to help with air flow inside the camp and reduce the smoke. We then cooked food over an open fire in the woods. We hung some deer hides and antlers above the viking long house to make it look more rustic. With the roof complete, the viking camp is now ready for camping overnight in! We are really looking forward to cooking meat over the fire pit. In Part 7 we will focus on finishing the viking camp. The gable end at the back and front of the viking house still need to be built. We will also add a folding window to this Log Cabin like structure. #sauna #logcabin #castiron Back to working on the log cabin suana, I finish the walls and place the top logs with porch extension to carry the roof and porch overhang. The weather is finally perfect for working on the Finnish sauna /Russian banya style bathhouse so I should be able to make headway this week, framing in the roof with full length logs. In the morning on the first day, I prepare duck confit, placing salted duck pieces in a cast iron pot and covering it completely with duck fat. It simmers on the wood stove with a medium fire for over ten hours until it s fall of the bone tender. I eat the duck back for lunch, fried in the cast iron pan, and then for dinner, I remove the two legs from the confit pot and fry them in the cast iron skillet with zucchini, onions, mushrooms and garlic and eat it with fermented sauerkraut. The following morning, I wake up to a lot of fresh snow, about 12 inches, thirty centimetres, over two days. I cook bacon and eggs for breakfast and then clean up and shovel the front deck before company arrives, which they do just before the video ends. Thanks for watching! New videos every FRIDAY.
