These events, with the rising popularity of dash cams, are often captured on camera and are useful in legal disputes, road traffic accidents and more often than not, the viewing pleasure of the wider public...... Today we look at some terrifying footage that thankfully did not result in loss of life for anyone featured.... but does demonstrate that you never know what s around the corner, especially when out driving in a car... and hopefully, these first-hand visualisations of what can happen will increase your caution when you get behind the wheel..... A brick mold was fashioned from clay and then fired in existing kiln. This was then used to make bricks formed from clay from the creek bank. These bricks were then stored in the hut I built last episode to dry. Using half the hut I could fit 40 bricks. These, when semi dry, were then stacked around the fire to dry out. A small kiln was then assembled from un-fired bricks and used to fire 4 bricks as an experiment. It was about 50 cm tall and 25 cm square in cross section. The fired clay bricks were water resistant, they didn t dissolve when submerged in water. I will use these bricks to make a larger kiln and hopefully larger huts later on. I estimate that a kiln with a 50 cm cube ware chamber could hold 40 bricks without being so cramped the flames can t get through. The good thing about using bricks to make kilns is that they can be constructed quickly without waiting for the layers to dry, they only crack along the joints between bricks while remaining structurally stable, they can be disassembled and built elsewhere or they can be reconfigured/enlarged to make different types of kilns. Repairs are also possible too. About Primitive Technology: Primitive technology is a hobby where you build things in the wild completely from scratch using no modern tools or materials. These are the strict rules: If you want a fire, use a fire stick - An axe, pick up a stone and shape it - A hut, build one from trees, mud, rocks etc. The challenge is seeing how far you can go without utilizing modern technology. I do not live in the wild, but enjoy building shelter, tools, and more, only utilizing natural materials. To find specific videos, visit my playlist tab for building videos focused on pyrotechnology, shelter, weapons, food & agriculture, tools & machines, and weaving & fiber.

To coincide with the final season of Game Of Thrones, here we have an event that inspired the novel s most horrifying twist, the Red Wedding. The Massacre of Glencoe took place in 1692 in Glencoe in Scotland when MacIain of the Macdonald clan was delayed by a snow storm from swearing fealty to King William II of Scotland (III of England). He and many of his men were then slain in their homes by government forces who were billeted with them, led by Robert Campbell of Glenylon. This extract is from a paper circulated in 1695 in Edinburgh entitled Murther Will Out that documented the events. How do we actually know about history? Voices of the Past is a channel dedicated to recreating the original accounts from the people who lived through events, or who lived far closer to them than we do today. The Mediterranean supports countries in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa—but its fish stocks are almost completely collapsed. Meet the man who is leading attempts to revive its marine habitats. Film supported by @blancpain Click here to subscribe to The Economist on YouTube: https://econ.st/2xvTKdy This is the extraordinary story of one man’s dream to save the most over-fished sea in the world. Zafer Kizilkaya has almost single handedly turned a ravaged bay in Turkey into one of the most effective and thriving marine conservation areas in the Mediterranean. His hope is to inspire others to bring marine life back to one of the most famous but damaged parts of the ocean. It’s a chilly December morning on Turkey’s eastern-Mediterranean coast and Zafer Kizilkaya is a man on a mission. He’s dedicated to enforcing the no-fishing zones that he has helped create here in Gokova Bay. Within just 20 minutes Zafer and one of his rangers have spotted something suspicious. Since marine conservationist Zafer set up the ranger system here in partnership with the Turkish authorities they’ve seen a significant drop in illegal fishing. It all began after Zafer first visited Gokova Bay in 2008 on a research trip from his home city of Istanbul. The damage he witnessed to marine life compelled him to stay and devote his life to repairing this. Zafer lobbied his government to make the bay a protected area and ten years on his research suggests marine life has increased by 800% within his no-fishing zones. But the revival faced another threat new species of fish coming into the Mediterranean through the Suez Canal. These invaders were eating the native fishes’ food and grazing parts of the seabed bare so Zafer had to adapt and come up with an innovative solution. To make this work, he had to hook the local population into eating these unfamiliar fish and that meant persuading people to change their diets. Zafer’s vision has delivered the bonus of raising the incomes of local fisher people by 400% and bringing a previously decimated industry back to life. Visit the fishing co-operative here and you’ll find an array of invasive species for sale caught outside the no-fishing zones. Zafer’s innovations have delivered for both people and planet in this small bay and he’s now working to create another marine protected area in Turkey. It looks like a lonely mission. Latest figures show just 0.04% of the Mediterranean is a no-fishing zone 50 times lower than the average for the whole ocean. Zafer is going to need all the help he can get. We also take a property tour and talk about our future build projects near the off grid cabin in the woods. I ll share some very cool trail camera footage of the creek and the animals living in and near it! We also claim our new Eastonmade Wood and meet up with Andrew Easton who walks us through how to cut firewood for our cabin to keep us warm.
