Lviv or Lwów are two names for the same city that was known as Lemberg until 1919. The Poles considered it as one of their most important cultural and political centers, the Ukrainians too. And so, in the aftermath of the dissolution of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the question of who would control this city led to conflict: The Polish-Ukrainian War. » SUPPORT THE CHANNEL Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/thegreatwar  Become a member: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCUcyEsEjhPEDf69RRVhRh4A/join   » OUR PODCAST https://realtimehistory.net/podcast - interviews with World War 1 historians and background info for the show.   » BUY OUR SOURCES IN OUR AMAZON STORES https://realtimehistory.net/amazon * *Buying via this link supports The Great War (Affiliate-Link)   » SOURCES Smele, Jonathan. In this episode we witness one of the Arctic’s most magical moments. With the help of a one-of-a-kind local tracker, we find a female polar bear fresh out of her winter den with her tiny new cub. We see ultimate cuteness as the cub explores the world outside for the first time. Their irresistible interactions distract from the fact that the mother bear is actually making an impossible decision. The mother has spent the last eight months starving, so she is eager to rush to the ocean where she can hunt. But to reach the seal feast means a 40-mile trek. Does she wait to allow the cub to gain strength for the long trek, or does she head out to sea to make sure her milk doesn’t dry up? We also follow a young female bear in her first moments of independence, having been kicked out by her mother. She has spent the last two and a half years with her mother preparing for this moment, but she quickly manages to get herself into trouble. Will she be able to survive a wolf on the hunt? ➡ Subscribe: http://bit.ly/NatGeoSubscribe ➡ Get More Wildlife with Bertie Gregory: https://on.natgeo.com/2lNK5cQ #NationalGeographic #BertieGregory #WildlifeTheBigFreeze About National Geographic: National Geographic is the world s premium destination for science, exploration, and adventure. The second most common question and request I get: how do I sharpen a knife? As luck would have it, the Ontario Knife that I chose for the "Complete Walmart Kit for Overnighters" video was so dull out of the package, it gave me the perfect opportunity to answer just that question. In this video, I break down the difference between sharpening and honing, discuss my home/garage kit, and show you how to take a dull knife and make it field ready. ========== Subscribe to GB2 Membership here: https://graybeardedgreenberet.com/membership/ I m Joshua Enyart, former Army Ranger (Bco 1/75; Ranger Class 10-96), and Green Beret (18B, 7th SFG). It’s one of the bloodiest conflicts in human history. In 1851, the Taiping Rebellion exploded in Qing dynasty China, causing death on an unprecedented scale. Over 14 years of civil war, an estimated 20 million people died, more than were killed in the whole of WWI. It was, simply, the deadliest war of the nineteenth century, and it was all thanks to one man: Hong Xiuquan. →Subscribe for new videos four times per week. https://www.youtube.com/c/biographics?sub_confirmation=1 Visit our companion website for more: http://biographics.org Credits: Host - Simon Whistler Author - Morris M. As NASA prepares to return to the Moon by 2024 as part of its Artemis program, the agency is focusing its efforts on exploring the Moon’s polar regions. These are areas of the Moon which seem to have a lot of water mixed in with the regolith. Some of these craters are permanently in shadow, and might still have large quantities of water, that’s accessible to human and robotic explorers. This is a critical resource, and the Moon might be just the place to help humanity as it pushes out to explore the rest of the Solar System. But it might also be an illusion. We really won’t know until we look up close. We pursue catch and possession limits for bass, pike, catfish, and brook trout to keep food on the table for Jeremy who is on a year long survival challenge to only eat wild foods. One Wildcrafter: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCy7HUXYD7Ua6zPR384d1ETg Adam Craig: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuZwrIkADWzF-2CMmoRScZw We start out adventure by catching, cleaning and cooking a wild raccoon over an open fire at the shores of a secret back bass lake in the wilderness. We then set off and catch as many bass as possible using a meps spinner tipped with a live night-crawler. Jeremy is actually able to catch a small brook trout from a lake I thought didn t hold them anymore. We then travel to another lake which holds catfish and set up our lines for a night fish. The next day we set off to a pike lake down an old logging road but soon discover that the day isn t going to go as planned. We get a flat tire and spend a couple hours changing it. Then after we start driving again, the tire actually falls off again! Eventually we make it to the lake and catch a bunch of pike. Later that night we head back again for catfish for the evening. The final day brings us to a brook trout creek where we spend some time with Adam Craig. Some slogging and bug bites later get us into some nice little brook trout. Tornado Alley experiences more tornadoes than anywhere else in the world — why? This video is presented by CuriosityStream: https://www.curiositystream.com/Vox Become a Video Lab member! http://bit.ly/video-lab The United States experiences more tornadoes than any other country, averaging over 1,200 per year. Most of those twisters are touching down in the central part of the country in an area called “Tornado Alley.” While the boundaries of this tornado hotbed are disputed, there’s no denying that something is going on here — and it all has to do with geography. The map we use in this video for Tornado Alley boundaries is from NOAA — you can find that and more information on their website: https://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/climate-information/extreme-events/us-tornado-climatology/tornado-alley Information on tornado averages and trends can also be found at NOAA: https://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/climate-information/extreme-events/us-tornado-climatology/trends You may have noticed on our graphic around the one-minute mark that many of the Southeastern US states are prone to tornadoes as well. This is because they’re part of an area called “Dixie Alley.” The main difference between this area and Tornado Alley that tornadoes in Dixie Alley are more likely to touch down in the fall, while Tornado Alley experiences twisters in the early spring. This happens for the reasons outlined in the video above. This article offers a fairly compelling comparison of the two: http://citeseerx.ist.psu.edu/viewdoc/download?doi=10.1.1.660.5241&rep=rep1&type=pdf Finally, this video offered a simplified explanation of a really complex weather phenomenon. This National Geographic article does a really great job breaking it down again and also offers information on why it’s so hard to track and predict tornadoes: https://news.nationalgeographic.com/2015/05/150511-tornadoes-storms-midwest-weather-science/ Subscribe to our channel! http://goo.gl/0bsAjO Vox.com is a news website that helps you cut through the noise and understand what s really driving the events in the headlines.
