Nasa Rocket Tower Demolition: Blowdown is an explosive four part building demolition series profiling some of the most challenging projects of Controlled Demolition Inc of Phoenix, Maryland. Each of the structures, some notable, others notorious is unique and present the team with challenges ranging from the structural, to the explosive and bureaucratic. In this episode, the team from CDI travels to Patrick Air Force Base in Cape Canaveral, Florida to take down an obsolete rocket launch tower. Mobile Station Tower 40 (or MST 40) was once the largest mobile structure in the world. Built during the early 1990s MST 40 was 265 feet tall, and had 20 working stories. It launched both the prestigious Mars Observer as well as the Cassini mission to Saturn. During the late 1990s the air force phased out the rocket type that was launched from the tower and in 2005 MST 40 was retired. The demolition team has just 30 days to prepare the tower for explosives, and bring her down safely. They struggle to work in a brush fire hazard area where frequent electrical storms and high winds heighten the risk of working on the tower. Adding to their challenges are two sets of lightening towers that lie close to the tumbling tower’s intended path and a subterranean control bunker that lies beneath it. In order that neither are harmed during the implosion the demolition team must pull-off a precise drop. To achieve the precision they need CDI uses over 700 powerful steel cutting explosives called shaped charges. These incendiary devices are high velocity explosives – they employ the same technology as armor piercing shells and warheads. The team uses the charges to cut through the tower’s entirely metal structure. CDI comes in to work on MST 40 during the cusp of hurricane season. They have just one month to prepare, load and implode the tower. Major concerns are undermining the hurricane proof rocket tower’s integrity, gutting hundreds of thousands of structural steel while remaining on schedule, and manually moving the tower 75 feet. __________________________________________________________ Subscribe Free Documentary Channel for free: https://bit.ly/2YJ4XzQ Facebook: https://bit.ly/2QfRxbG Twitter: https://bit.ly/2QlwRiI __________________________________________________________ #FreeDocumentary #Documentary #BlowDown __________________________________________________________ Free Documentary is dedicated to bring high-class documentaries to you on youtube for free. On Tuesday, July 30th, NASA announced 19 different partnerships with 13 different companies to use their expertise to help them develop space technologies, from advanced communications systems to new methods of entry, descent and landing. Instead of contracting out specific projects, NASA will make its employees, facilities, hardware and software available to these companies, for free. One of the most notable of these partnerships will be with SpaceX and NASA’s Glenn and Marshall Centers to help advance the technology of transferring propellant in orbit. In other words, NASA is going to help SpaceX figure out how to refuel a spacecraft while it’s in space. And if they can figure this out, it could completely change the way missions are launched and flown. Roland Barthes, born in 1915 and died in 1980, was a French literary theorist and philosopher famous for his understanding of how myths operated. The 1957 book Mythologies is a collection of Barthes analysis of French culture in the postwar period. The short articles examine topics as diverse the militarisation of toys, the romans in the films, detergent adverts, how drinking wine makes you French, Einstein’s brain, and the World of Wrestling. Trump spent time appearing in the WWE. How does Barthes analysis of Wrestling and Myth help us understand how Trump approaches rhetoric? Can Barthes help beat Trump in the 2020 elections? The yield curve has predicted America s last eight recessions. In March this year it inverted again. So what does it mean for America? Read more about how the yield curve helps predict economic growth here: https://econ.st/2N3fT98 Click here to subscribe to The Economist on YouTube: https://econ.st/2xvTKdy This graph makes a lot of people nervous. Why? It appears to predict that America is about to go into recession. It’s based on an economic indicator called the yield curve. In fact only on one occasion in the last 70 years has there been a false alarm. And here’s the thing. So what is it about this curve that seems to make it such a good indicator of where the economy is heading? The line illustrates the return, or yield investors get from investing in government bonds from short-term investments on the left to longer-term ones on the right. Usually the longer the time frame the higher the interest rate as investors demand a bigger return if they’re to lock their money up for longer. However, if investors fear the economy is slowing down then the long-term rates can drop below short-term rates the curve inverts. When the outlook is gloomy investors are more likely to buy safe assets like long-term bonds, pushing their price up so the interest rate for holding them falls. Higher bond prices are also a signal that there are fewer exciting investment opportunities elsewhere such as the stockmarket. Of course there are plenty of other indicators you could look at to get a sense of what’s happening to the economy. Then there’s the rate of change in unemployment which correlates closely with recessions. And even monitoring the number of times that newspapers publish the word “recession” can help to anticipate a downturn. But bear in mind that when you’re trying to predict a downturn you’re often trying to get a read on people’s expectations of where the economy is heading which is why that curve is so useful. But these are extraordinary times for the US economy. Quantitative easing was a policy followed by the Federal Reserve to stimulate the economy after the 2008 financial crisis. The Treasury bought companies’ debt to reduce long-term interest rates. Some experts believe it’s distorted the yield curve. In other words predicting America’s next recession just got a little harder. But the indicators are starting to flash red. On the 30th May 1431 the French national heroine Saint Joan of Arc, canonised in 1920, was burnt alive at the stake for heresy under the instruction of the bishop Pierre Cauchon. She rose to prominence during her brief life for her effect on the battlefield during the Hundred Years war, and the widespread belief among the French that she was able to receive messages from the divine. Here we have notes from her trial and execution, written by Guillaume Manchon, which describe the sentencing and final moments of Joan. We discover matts of toxic sludge and algae in our trout pond and need to do something before it completely kills all our monster trout. We put together a simple, but very effective dredger made out of pool noodles and some spare chicken wire. Find out if it works or not! Mark s Channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UuANi5-yoso I will show you how to remove algae from a pond without using any chemicals with a cheap and easy solution. Algae can be both good and bad. During the day, algae helps the pond by producing oxygen, but at night it produces CO2. As long as it s not very cloudy or the algae doesn t all die at the same time, things are in balance, but if it all dies at the same time, the pond can go anoxic quickly and kill all the fish. Later, I catch fish using my fly fishing tackle and turn my rainbow trout into a meal as part our first catch, clean and cook. The fastest way to dig a big pond is to use the help of a qualified excavator. This excavator normally digs out house foundations and the operator has years of experience digging giant holes in the ground and removing mountains of material. In the previous episode we had Clarke from Lyndon Trout Ponds and Fish Hatchery measure water quality of our fish pond for oxygen and water temperature. This pond was also monitored year round to see if it holds enough water and has the depth the fish need to stay cold. Rainbow trout need good to excellent water quality and plenty of oxygen. Water flow is an asset to help fish spawn. We discovered that the water in our pond is filled continuously with the help of ground water and is very cold, even in the summer. Trout will die if water gets above 25 degrees Celsius. Shade also helps keep water cool and our pond is sheltered for a good part of the day with trees. You will need to find out what kind of soil you are working with. Is it clay, clay-loam and sandy loam are best for holding water. You will want to avoid limestone, shale, sand and gravel—they leak. Except in our case since the gravel is actually part of the ground water, which is ideal. You can ask around to find out if your pond will leak or will hold water year round. You don t want your pond to dry up in the middle of the summer. Our plan to excavate the remainder of the pond, pushing the size out to about a half acre in size and a water depth of around 8 feet. 15 feet is more ideal, but our base is shale and therefore can not be dug any deeper. A trout pond is very difficult to establish, but it is very possible to do correctly if you know what the fish need. Aeration of the pond is something we will be exploring as we see how the season develops. We are hopeful that water remains cool so dissolved oxygen in the water remains high. After we dig the pond, we will let is sit for a few weeks before putting our fish in the pond. Ideally you will let the pond sit for a full year, but we are not patient enough for this.
