Por-Bajin Complex Situated at an altitude of 4,000 feet (1,219 meters) on a small island in Lake Tere-Khol in rural Siberia is a mysterious structure known as the Por-Bajin complex. It is one of the most mysterious archaeological monuments in Russia. Dating back 1,300 years ago, it was reportedly built over a two-year span sometime during the eighth century. 9. Arctic Cave Bear A perfectly-preserved prehistoric adult cave bear (Ursus spelaeus) was just discovered on the Siberian island of Bolshoy Lyakhovsky. The carcass spent tens of thousands of years in the permafrost before being found by reindeer herders, who alerted scientists to the discovery. 8. The Trolleborg Labyrinth The island of Bla Jungfrun in Sweden has long been the subject of local folklore, with stories of dark curses and witchcraft. This place is spooky, and requires visitors to stick to the paths, and no one can visit the island after dark. There are a few unusual structures on the island that increase the mystery. 7. Dilmun Civilization Starting sometime during the third century BC, the Dilmun civilization of the eastern Arabian Peninsula was an important but lesser-known society than the four cradles of the Old World (Mesopotamia, Ancient Egypt, Indus Valley, and Yellow River civilizations). Unlike those civilizations, which were based in river valleys, the Dilmun settled on an island, now known as Bahrain Island in the Persian Gulf. 6. Medieval Workshop While conducting a routine excavation prior to the construction of a new development of flats along the sea in Grouville on the island of Jersey in the Channel Islands (UK) this year, an archaeology team uncovered what they believe are the remains of a medieval beachfront workshop. 5. Extinct Animal Drawings An international team of scientists from the U.S., Madagascar, and the United Kingdom recently published their discovery of unique ancient artwork in Andriamamelo Cave in northern Madagascar. It is the only known prehistoric depiction of a now extinct giant sloth lemur. 4. “Lost” Stone Age Conquerors In August of this year, archaeologists working in the Channel Islands discovered some of the earliest-known evidence of prehistoric art in northern Europe. Dating back to the Stone Age and depicting animals and abstract patterns, the artwork indicates that a long, lost culture may have once existed in the region, and that the society’s remains may have sunk to the bottom of the English Channel. 3. What Happened to the Rapa Nui? Researchers working on Easter Island in the southwestern Pacific, which is home to around 1,000 mysterious massive stone head sculptures called Moai, recently announced that they finally unraveled the mystery of what caused the Rapa Nui civilization to collapse. 2. Viking Boat Graves Scientists have discovered at least two Viking boat graves on the small, 2.9 square mile (7.5 km2) Norwegian island of Edøy since late 2019. The first discovery happened just yards from a local church, where archaeologists from the Norwegian Institute for Cultural Heritage Research (NIKU) discovered traces of a buried Viking ship burial. 1. Lucayan Bones Researchers at Texas A&M University at Galveston recently embarked on groundbreaking research showing that the Lucayan people, who inhabited the Bahamas prior to the 16th-century arrival of European colonizers, came to the archipelago later than previously thought. #mysteriousdiscoveries #archaeologicalfinds #amazingdiscoveries #originsexplained

Subscribe – http://goo.gl/wpc2Q1 News about the number of lives lost broke on 16th April 1912, one day after the disaster. Grieving relatives of the victims were desperate to know how the impossible could have happened. The Titanic was designed to be the most luxurious, but also the safest ship ever built, even if she were rammed by another ship, she would stay afloat. Yet she took only two hours to sink after colliding with an iceberg. Two weeks later a public inquiry was setup to find out if the disaster could have been avoided, and if anyone was responsible for the loss of 1,523 lives. The chief council for the British government was the celebrated barrister Sir Rupert Issacs. The key witness was Joseph Bruce Ismay, the 50 year old chairman at White Star Line, the owner of Titanic, and one of the few men that survived the maiden voyage. Also called were wireless operator Harold Bride, and second officer Charles Lightoller, the most senior officer to survive. As most of the crew had died in the disaster, these three men’s testimony would be vital in deciding whether the ship’s crew or the ship’s owners had been negligent. Two years before the scheduled launch date, Ismay had met with his chief designer Alexander Carlisle, it was meeting that would start the chain of events that would lead to disaster. Their first decision would compromise the structural integrity of the ship.

In the Indian city of Jaipur, prospects for Queen Rani and her troop begin to pick up. Their old enemy Zamir has rejoined the gang and it is soon clear that he is leading them back towards their old temple home at Galta. Langur sentries stand guard at Galta Temple but devious Zamir leads his troop quietly round the back and in through an unguarded window. He launches an attack and chases the surprised langurs back to the forest. Rani’s beloved temple is hers to call home once more. As the suns sets over Jaipur, the future is unpredictable for all the city’s monkeys. Bipin, Yash and Tito have made their home in a peaceful market paradise but the monkey catcher still has them under close surveillance. At animal clinic Help in Suffering, attempts to release the orphan macaques to a life of freedom have failed and they are back behind cage bars. Zamir’s dream of being lord of Galta Temple has come true at last, but it won’t be the last battle he’ll have to fight. Only one thing is certain. Jaipur will always have Monkey Thieves.

Is a COVID-19 vaccine likely in the near future? On this episode of StarTalk Radio, Neil deGrasse Tyson and comic co-host Paul Mecurio answer your fan-submitted Cosmic Queries about vaccines for COVID-19 with the help of their guest, Dr. Paul Offit, MD, Director of the Vaccine Education Center and an attending physician in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Children s Hospital of Philadelphia. We start with the big question: What happened? How did an outbreak like this occur in modern times? Paul sheds light on how, if we would’ve known about the outbreak sooner, we could’ve gotten ahead of the virus. We discuss how to navigate dealing with anti-vaxxers and those who don’t want to wear masks. Paul shares his thoughts on the hardest part of vaccine education. For a quick refresher on Vaccines 101, Dr. Offit tells us how vaccines work. You’ll learn about the “typical” procedure used to create and distribute a new vaccine and why a vaccine for COVID-19 can be extremely accelerated. We also ponder whether a vaccine might reduce the number of anti-vaxxers? Dr. Paul explains the difference between being a vaccine skeptic vs. being a vaccine cynic. Once a vaccine exists, who will get vaccinated first? We discuss strategies in place for when the day comes. We also discuss if COVID-19 will linger around like the flu or if we can remove it from the face of the Earth. You’ll also find out the role young people play with spreading the virus. We investigate possible timelines for a COVID-19 vaccine. Paul shares his thoughts on what makes something a “bad” side effect. All that, plus, Neil wonders why medicinal procedures have yet to capitalize on computer simulations to test vaccines on human physiology. Thanks to our Patrons Jennifer Sell-Knapp, Chris Reynolds, Rusty Faircloth, Jaclyn Mishak, Jeremy Scott, Alejandra Salinas, Tom Bock, and Marcus Richardson for supporting us this week.
