It was 1998 and the vessel was traveling from Aruba to Curacao in the Netherlands Antilles when Amy was last seen in the early morning hours of March 24. 8. Rico Harris Los Angeles native Rico Harris enjoyed a short-lived semi-professional basketball career with the Harlem Globetrotters. After just a month, injuries forced him off the court. His luck took another downturn in the early 2000s, when he struggled with drug and alcohol addiction and the legal problems that often come with these issues. 7. April Beth Pitzer In 2004, 30-year-old April Beth Pitzer moved from Arkansas to Newberry Springs, California. The married mother of two told her family that she worked as a waitress, but they later learned that April was living on the street and in and out of homeless shelters, and that she wasn’t taking her medication for bipolar disorder. 6. John Michael Spira On February 23, 2007, a successful 45-year-old businessman and licensed pilot named John Spira met with his estranged wife, Suzanne, to discuss the terms of their divorce settlement. He then went to his West Chicago, Illinois office, where he was last seen around seven o’clock in the evening. 5. Marilyn Renee Nicole McCown Marilyn Renee Nicole McCown, who went by “Niqui,” was last seen at a laundromat in Richmond, Indiana on July 22, 2001. Surveillance footage shows the 28-year-old leaving the establishment in her vehicle, seemingly in a calm state, although she had mentioned to her mother earlier that day that some men harassed her at the business. 4. Jeramy Carl Burt On February 11, 2007, U.S. Navy veteran Jeramy Carl Burt left his father’s Boise, Idaho home to visit a friend, but never arrived. His ex-wife, Kim George, received a text message from Jeramy shortly thereafter, stating that he was starting a new life. 3. Merrian Carver In 2004, a 40-year-old Boston, Massachusetts investment banker named Merrian Carver embarked on a weeklong cruise from Seattle to Alaska without telling her family. But that wasn’t that strange since she often travelled alone. She seemed excited for the voyage, according to her steward, Domingo Monteiro, who explained that she ordered room service instead of going to the dining room. 2. Steven Koecher After leaving his St. George, Utah home on December 12, 2009, a devout 30-year-old Mormon named Steven Koecher told some friends over text message that he was heading to Las Vegas. He was last seen alive the following day on home surveillance footage captured 140 miles (225 km) away in Henderson, Nevada. 1. Hatice Corbacioglu Turkish immigrant Hatice Corbacioglu was last seen on June 13, 2009 in Toronto, Canada when she left to visit her married boyfriend, Riza Cosa, in New York. The Heart Of A Saint In March 2012, a sneaky thief stole the 800-year-old heart of Saint Laurence O’Toole, Dublin’s patron saint, from the Christ Church Cathedral. The intruder, who investigators believe may have hidden in the church overnight, took the time to light two candles at the altar before making off with the relic. 8. ‘Xenomorph’ Skulls Many societies throughout the ancient world engaged in a practice called intentional cranial deformation or ICM, which involved purposely reshaping their head. Archaeologists unearthed some of the oldest known evidence of the custom in 2019 at the Neolithic Houtaomuga site in northeastern China. 7. A Structure Frozen In Time A farmhouse in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland that looked pretty ordinary from the outside served as a spooky time capsule before it was demolished two years ago. The home’s last occupant, a man known as ‘Dessie,’ was the last of three brothers who lived there. 6. Ofuka-Cho Mass Grave Earlier this year, archaeologists excavated a series of strange, circular holes at the Ofuka-Cho site in Osaka, Japan. The holes contained the remains of over 1,500 people and animals squished inside creating a large cemetery. 5. Eerie Shipwreck The ruins of the SV Carl, a German ship that ran aground off the Cornish coast during World War I, reappeared in late 2019 during low tide following a violent storm. The British Navy was towing the 60-foot (18.3 meters) three-masted steel-hulled sailing vessel to London in 1917 with plans to dismantle it for scrap metal when it became stuck on a reef during a storm and broke away from its tow line. It sounds like it knew what was coming! 4. A Scary Massacre When a Siberia resident named Vitaly Kvasha began digging in his yard in 2019 with plans to expand his home, he unexpectedly encountered human bones -- and not just a few of them. The skeletal remains kept turning up so Kvasha just kept going, putting the bones in flour sacks. The bags started stacking up against his house. 3. A Crash From The Past In September 1942, during World War II, a U.S. fighter plane went down off the coast of North Wales. The pilot, 24-year-old Second Lt. Robert F. Elliot, crash-landed the Lockheed P-38 Lightning Fighter during a gunnery practice mission after running into mechanical difficulties. 2. New Forest Arborglyphs This year has not been good for travel and visiting historical and archaeological sites around the world, so many organizations are turning to the internet so that people can visit virtually. In October, England’s New Forest National Park Authority (NPA) displayed over 100 examples of historic tree etchings, called arborglyphs, on its website. 1. Notre Dame Crypt The April 2019 fire at the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris put the historic building out of commission for a long time. Subscribe – http://goo.gl/wpc2Q1 The Cassini-Huygens mission began with an epic 7 year, 1 billion mile journey to Saturn, and if all went according to plan, would be the first probe to orbit the ringed planet, the first landing on a celestial body in the outer solar system, and first to ever sample an extraterrestrial ocean. For the mission to succeed the Huygens probe needed to send its data from the surface of Titan, back to the orbiting mothership Cassini. Cassini would then relay the information to Earth. Before this fixed communication system could prove its worth, Cassini and Huygens had to overcome one last deadly obstacle, Saturn’s rings looming on its horizon.
