Ice Race: The Dream of the New Marine Silk Road | Arctic Documentary Ice Race - The Arctic: Border Conflicts about Oil: https://youtu.be/-I7-LuIMdDg Though it is usually associated with weather-related disasters, global climate change has also brought about interesting possibilities with the opening of a Northern Sea Route, a potential maritime highway connecting East Asia and Europe through the Arctic that is being billed as the Northern Silk Road. This promising new route provides a welcome opportunity to bypass the far longer southern route that connects Korea, Japan, and China with the West, through pirate-infested waters. The southern route, which carries 90% of petroleum, fishery products, and other trade, is a vital lifeline for Asia, but a northern route through the Bering Sea and across the North Pole is 40% shorter and could be a boon for trade. The Russians are leading the race for a safe summer route that travels through their newly booming ports, but other countries, including Japan, Canada, Germany, and Korea, are catching up. As the ice melts each summer, these countries are stepping up to find a profitable way to take advantage of an unexpected benefit of global climate change. ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Subscribe Free Documentary Channel for free: https://bit.ly/2YJ4XzQ Join the club and become a Free Documentary Patron: https://www.patreon.com/freedocumentary Facebook: https://bit.ly/2QfRxbG Twitter: https://bit.ly/2QlwRiI ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ #FreeDocumentary #Documentary #IceRace ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ Free Documentary is dedicated to bringing high-class documentaries to you on YouTube for free. Chicago at the Crossroad tells the story of a city caught in the aftermath of a policy of mass displacement shaded by a long history of segregation. A Feature Length Documentary from Schodorf Media Creative – 15 years in the making… Chicago at the Crossroad tells the story of a city caught in the violent aftermath of a policy of mass displacement shaded by a long history of segregation. Much is said about the violence that plagues Chicago’s hyper-segregated communities. But what is known about the systems that created them, the laws that isolated them, and the policies that abandoned them? And how does a city heal from the decades of heartbreak and pain? Unfinished Business - Afghanistan, April 2003 The Taliban may have been defeated but Afghanistan remains dangerous and unstable. Now there are concerns about the level of US commitment. Subscribe to Journeyman here: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=journeymanpictures In recent weeks, foreign troops have come under increasing attack from rebels. Fundamentalists have threatened to kill supporters of the infidel government and vast swathes of the country have been declared no-go areas . However, the main threat to stability comes from warlords like Pacha Khan Zadran. During the war, he helped Americans seize airfields and provided 600 soldiers for their campaign. In return, he was promised the governorship of Gardez but when he did not receive this, he shelled the town, killing 25 people. Afghans complain that America has not done enough to help rebuild their country. As in Iraq, the US military has taken on elements of reconstruction -- a role usually reserved for UN and aid agencies. These organisations claim the army s actions are backfiring and endangering their workers. "By getting involved they are blurring the distinction between NGOs and the military," complains a CARE International worker. The murder of a Red Cross aid worker last month gives added weight to her concerns. The flow of aid to Afghanistan has slowed and President Karzai s repeated pleas for help are increasingly falling on deaf ears. The fear now is that with America distracting with Iraq, things can only get worse. It s a story of a certain type of capitalism If you want to learn more, check out this article from the WEF https://bit.ly/39s92kl or for a deeper dive, the full book was published yesterday (I ve read it. it s good!): https://amzn.to/3ordkwC This video is a story about China, past to present. But in telling the story of the Rise of China (and Asia generally), it s impossible to not talk about fundamental lessons that have emerged. In this video I try to tell the story but then also look back and at the result of it all. To examine the data and see what effects our global economic system has had on people and the planet. The data is clear that our model of capitalism has some major winners. But it also produces some important losers, those who have lost out or have been damaged by these trends. One major loser of the this system is the future generations of people who will live on a planet with more extreme and volatile weather and ocean patterns. All of this calls for a rethinking of our capitalism. Not to scrap it all together, but to upgrade it to a version that benefits all of society and doesn t threaten our planet and future generations.
