The Tyrannosaurus Rex and Triceratops were completely entangled in a 67 million-year-old fossil. 9: The Mushroom Sword A man was hunting for mushrooms in a rural forest in the Czech Republic, and stumbled upon something quite strange. Instead of finding the delicious mushrooms he was searching for, he stumbled across an ancient sword and a bronze axe. The mushroom hunter first spotted a piece of metal jutting out from the ground. 8: Ancient Carved Stones Just recently, archaeologists have uncovered nine mysterious stone objects scattered around an equally mysterious hearth on the mainland of Orkney, part of an island archipelago off the coast of Scotland. It s an area with very few people and an ancient history. 7: Missing Heads In a Roman cemetery, yet another mysterious cache of skeletons has been found. The Roman cemetery is located in England, close to Suffolk, and it has archaeologists scratching their heads. The reason for this is because roughly 40% of the people buried in the graveyard were found missing their heads. 6: Priest Mummies In Egypt, the Ministry of Antiquities has announced that archaeologists have unearthed 30 perfectly preserved coffins with mummies inside. While you might think that mummies are found all the time in Egypt, the sheer quantity and their incredible well-preserved state makes them amazingly special. 5: The Oldest Human Skull A new study is blowing everything historians believed out of the water! In the 1970s, there were two fossilized skulls discovered in southern Greece. At the time, researchers were pretty confused by the remains. 4: Baffling Stone Carvings Jerusalem has countless mysterious discoveries, but now included among them are some strange carvings that have been uncovered in an excavation beneath the city, and archaeologists don’t know what they are. 3: New Evidence of Pontius Pilate If you re familiar with Pontius Pilate, you will know that in the New Testament he was the man who presided over the trial of Jesus under the emperor Tiberius. He was the Roman governor of Judea between 26 and 37 BC. It is believed that he was reluctant to sentence Jesus to death and several branches of the church believe that he became a Christian himself. 2: Mysterious Ancient Warrior In 2019 archaeologists made one of the most significant finds in the United Kingdom- an ancient Celtic warrior buried in a chariot with weapons and ponies. Dating back 2000 years, included in the burial was a shield, which Dr Melanie Giles, of the University of Manchester calls the most important British Celtic art object of the millennium.” 1: Humans in the Americas? New finds from Mexico have uncovered evidence that people were living in the Americas 33,000 years ago. The results are based on archaeological discoveries recently found at Chiquihuite Cave in central Mexico. Researchers discovered roughly 2000 stone tools, which suggests the cave had been used by people for at least a span of 20,000 years. #archaeologicaldiscoveries #mysteriousdiscoveries #ancientartifacts #originsexplained
We survive on a frozen cold lake in the Canadian Tundra by building a primitive snow hut, quinzee or quinzhee structure and catch and cook fish. Adam Stew Channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCImE4SlRS79SqsMfLMol-6g Adam s 911 Cold Water Rescue Call: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l036YdW3jk8&feature=emb_logo My Gear (Shop and Support): https://www.thewoodedbeardsman.com/shop/ A quinzhee is also called a snow hut ice shelter, snow trench, or hollowed out survival snow mound, to sleep overnight and catch and cook giant trout and burbot. We will boil water to purify it for survival from the lake and cook snow in a hobo type wood burning stove right out on the lake. The quinzee is a simple structure that replaces a conventional winter survival shelter build by Inuit called the igloo. A quinzee is just a pile of snow that is left to site for a length of time permitting it to sinter or compress and bind together. After a few hours, the snow mound or trench can be hollowed out forming a cavity which can be used to protect from the elements including wind, some light rain, and most certainly, strong winds. While a quinzee does not generally get warmer than the outside temperatures, it does provide enough of a wind block and protection from the snow to be a viable life safer in wintery conditions. Much like an igloo, a quinzee can be heated a few degrees, but it does not hold a big volume of air, so condensation is a big problem. Ample ventilation must be used so that condensation does not form wetting dry sleeping bags or clothing. When building the structure, a survivalist must also be careful not to get their clothing wet. We solve some major survival challenges in this adventure including finding and purifying water, catching and cooking food, building shelter, and staying warm despite record -20C temperatures. On this episode of StarTalk Radio, Neil deGrasse Tyson and comic co-host Chuck Nice are answering a grab bag full of fan-submitted Cosmic Queries on topics ranging from dark matter to the end of the universe. What is dark matter? Could it be another universe’s gravity bleeding into our own universe? You’ll learn what the leading possibilities are to explain dark matter. Neil and Chuck dive into field theory. Discover more about our expanding universe. We discuss our eventual collision with the Andromeda galaxy. Neil explains how the universe might have removed chapters from its own history, forever hiding it from us. What would it be like if you grew up on Venus? Because of the thick atmosphere, would you be aware of other places in the galaxy? We ponder if we can use gravitational waves to communicate with life in other universes. You’ll also find out how the electromagnetic spectrum serves as a window to the universe. To kick off the last segment, Neil gets asked a big question: How does it all end? You’ll hear why the universe will end not in a bang, but, with a whimper. You’ll also hear about “The Big Rip.” Lastly, we explore the SN 1987A – the most recent supernova witnessed by humans. All that plus, we investigate the relationship between science and art. Building a medieval roundhouse from the iron age in 12 days. This bushcraft shelter build took us 12 days to make with simple hand tools. It has a thatched roof and wattle and clay walls. This bushcraft camp was inspired by the ancient celts that occupied britain thousands of years ago. They lived in round dwellings generally made from wattle and daub and a roof made from thatched water reed, long straw, sod or turf and heather. They had fire pits inside their houses where they would cook the food and the smoke would permeate through the roof of the thatch material, keeping the shelter warm and dry. We used simple hand tools for this build: axe, saw, knife, hand auger and drawknife to build this tiny house in the woods. This was a collaboration project with my friend Dustin from Bushcraft Tools. Darwin is a documentary feature about an isolated community at the end of a weathered road in Death Valley, California. Propelled from society by tragic turns, the people of Darwin (population 35) must now find ways to coexist in a place without a government, a church, jobs, or children. The film tells the story of a uniquely American place and yet a place that is unique even within America.
