Living in a Canadian province with over 250,000 lakes and rivers makes fish the most important and plentiful source of calories from the wild for me. A few days spent exploring and learning new lakes and rivers yields several trout and burbot and after releasing a few small fish and eating a couple lakeside, I take 7,000 calories back to the cabin to prepare into fish stock, fish soup, fried fish and smoked trout, enough calories to fuel me for 2 days of hardworking in the winter. Here is a Stone Age Primitive House inspired by the 4,000 BC Horton Neolithic House excavated in Berkshire, England. Built with a Scots Pine roundwood timber frame, and 12 tons of reed thatch for the roof. With wattle and daub walls, a solid oak timber frame entrance with deer skin doors and complete with fire pit and deer skin beds inside. This replica Primitive House built at Butser Ancient Farm was inspired by the finds of Wessex Archeology. Only post holes and faint outlines of the foundations were discovered in Berkshire, England. We can only guess that the structure would have used a basic timber frame structure, likely an A-frame roof to shed water, and being near the river Thames, likely covered in water reed for the thatched roof. "I was born in Germany. German is my mother tongue. I was in Africa just once in my life - on a package holiday,” says Konrad Erben, a student in Jena. Nevertheless, many people insist Erben can’t be German because he is Black. But Afro-Germans have been living in Germany for a long time. Hundreds came from German colonies during the Imperial period. Some appeared in spectacles known as "Völkerschauen.” Others came to get an education. Mandenga Diek was the first African to become a German citizen in 1896. A successful salesman, he campaigned for civil rights with an organization called the "Afrikanischer Hilfsverein.” It marked the beginning of an organization for the Black community in Germany. During the Nazi period, Afro-Germans were misused in propaganda films. For example, they played alongside Heinz Rühmann in the film "Quax in Africa.” Many were also subject to forced sterilization and imprisoned in concentration camps. After World War II, black US troops had relationships with German women in occupied Germany. Their children were put up for adoption in the United States. Those who remained were marginalized by racists daily. A former member of the German national soccer team, Erwin Kostedde, recalls his experiences in this film. Gabriela Willbold became the first black child to attend school in Cottbus. She took the anti-racist assertions of Communist East Germany literally and refused to tolerate any discrimination. In "Black and German,” four generations of men and women speak of their moving, rousing and proud history. Fabian Vas is a buru, a white descendent of Suriname’s original Dutch colonists. He has decided to capture the beauty of his little-known country. Fabian loves the wilderness and exploring unknown territories, photography and the people he meets in his life. He has made a name for himself in this little country flanked by the Amazon on one side and the warm waters of the Atlantic Ocean on the other. For the tribes of the Amazon, the doctor always arrives by air and never empty-handed. Rosanne Peuscher, 35, is Suriname’s only flying doctor. She works for Medische Zending, a medical and humanitarian mission. She crisscrosses the Amazon by plane helping the communities isolated in the vast tropical forest. Monique Pool is a heroine in her country, because she is a defender of the Amazon’s emblematic animal, the sloth. Monique’s yard is a little Noah’s Ark, a heaven for the more fragile creatures of the forest. She shelters sloths but also porcupines, anteaters, plus one giant anteater. Something Strange Is Happening on the Sun, and We ve Never Seen It Before Dr Tamitha Skov, a space weather forecaster, tweeted about the phenomenon that was captured by NASA using the James Webb Space Telescope. “Talk about Polar Vortex!” she wrote last week. “Material from a northern prominence just broke away from the main filament & is now circulating in a massive polar vortex around the north pole of our Star. Implications for understanding the Sun’s atmospheric dynamics above 55° here cannot be overstated!” Unusual activity typically occurs at the sun’s 55 degree latitudes once every 11-year solar cycle, according to experts, but this incident is stumping researchers. According to specialists, unusual activity usually occurs near the sun’s 55 degree latitudes during per 11-year solar cycle, but this episode has scientists baffled. A prominence is a noticeable feature that projects outward from the surface of the sun. Previous filament tear-aways have been seen, but not on this scale. According to Scott McIntosh, a solar physicist and the deputy director of the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Colorado, no one knows what triggers such an unusual event. “Once every solar cycle, it forms at the 55 degree latitude and it starts to march up to the solar poles,” McIntosh told Space.com. “It’s very curious. There is a big ‘why’ question around it. Why does it only move toward the pole one time and then disappears and then comes back, magically, three or four years later in exactly the same region?” While experts admit it probably has something to do with the sun’s magnetic field, the rest remains a mystery due to humanity’s limited view of its star. Scientists can only view the sun from the “ecliptic plane,” or the geometric plane that contains the orbit of Earth.
