Just beside one of the main highways heading north in Bali Indonesia, there is a beautiful abandoned resort now laying almost forgotten. The locals call it Penampakan Hotel Megah Berhantu which translates into The Ghost Palace Hotel. My friends Exploring with Josh and Cody Buffinton paid this creepy building a visit last year, and I thought I would do the same. I would rank this as one of the top things to see on the island, it really is one of the coolest and most beautiful things to see. The most common ghost story, the ones all told by the locals, is that on opening night, all of the guests and staff disappeared, and the building was left abandoned because the spirits of these people come back at night. Another is that many of the people involved in the construction were worked to death, and the ghosts play tricks on anyone who goes inside. A third story, is that the owner was the youngest son of a former Indonesian President, and when the building was opened to the public, he was accused and put on trial for corruption. He then sentenced the death of the judge, was caught, and spent the rest of his life in jail. It’s original name was PI Bedugul Taman Rekreasi Hotel and Resort, though that is mostly forgotten now… the rumours and legends have taken over, and it’s the now the Ghost Palace, one of the most haunted places in Indonesia No matter the story, this urbex adventure was wild. He wasn’t big, but he was angry and was attacking everything in sight. Play safe with snakes! I had one as a pet for 10 years so I’m comfortable around them, but they can be unpredictable. Don’t go close unless you are absolutely sure you are safe. Don t be a victim of a snake attack. Visit Austria (Tirol) - Tyrol Travel Guide to Alpbachtal Video Transcript: Today we’re showing you around one of the most picturesque corners in all of Austria: the Alpbachtal Valley located in Tyrol. This was our first time visiting Austria and I don’t think we could have chosen a better place to start. While we only had 3 days in this region, we managed to pack lots of time in the mountains, sample the local cuisine and befriend more than one cow along the way. The following is our mini-travel guide to Alpbachtal: After getting settled into our farmhouse it was time for lunch and boy were we hungry. We drove to Brandenberg where we ate at Kaiserhaus, a restaurant and guesthouse tucked out in nature. Tyrolean Food at Kaiserhaus Gasthof - Seeing as this was our first day in Tyrol, we wanted to sample some Tyrolean food including gamey meats and noodle dishes. Hiking the Kaiserklamm - This was a really nice walk that followed the course of the river and took us over a series of bridges and tunnels. We sure enjoyed the scenery. After that we returned back to our town of Reith im Alpbachtal, where we had some more hearty Tyrolean food and listened to a bit of live music. On day 2, we lucked out with clear blue skies, so after having breakfast in our farmhouse, we drove to the town of Alpbach. Here we got quick e-biking lesson, and set off to tackle the Alps in style. It wasn’t long before we left the town behind and found ourselves in the middle of nature. We rode up valleys, over streams, through forests, and tackled some pretty steep inclines along the way, but as you can see, the scenery was stunning. We drove to the nearby village of Kramsach, where we stopped off for - you guessed it - more food! We were famished after all that biking, and we didn’t hold back. We plopped ourselves down at Rohrerhof, where we proceeded to order cappuccinos, massive dessert platters and schnapps. The next attraction: the Tyrolean Farmhouse Museum, Gondola ride to Wiedersbergerhorn - After a leisurely walk and enjoying the impressive views, something else caught our attention - a mountaintop restaurant with an outdoor terrace! Almatrieb Cows Come Home Parade - By noon, the festivities were in full swing. But it wasn’t all about cows. There were also craft demonstrations, food stalls, and lots of bands playing for jovial crowds who created their own dance floors. Today we are leaving Ukraine and flying to Austria. Austria! Visiting for the 1st time. Yes. And we ve wanted to visit Austria for ages. Especially me because my Grandfather was from Austria and yeah I ve never been. Yeah. After all of these years of traveling so it is going to be a lot of fun. Um we ve just finished packing and our Airbnb host is actually about to knock any minute. Anyways, 2 flights to the airport. Two flights today. Two flights. So we ll see you guys in a bit. Made it the airport here in Lviv (Lviv Danylo Halytskyi International Airport). Made it to the airport. Very modern. Kind of fancy. It is quite new. I think it has only been open for a four or five years. But one of the cool things is we are flying with Austrian Airlines for the first time. First time. The very first time. So it is always exciting to fly with a new airline. It sounds like our flight to Vienna maybe delayed they said. Yeah. We won t make our connection. Which would be very very uncool because we have such a tight connection. Yeah. Only less than 30 minutes and the thing too is uh a little behind the scenes is we are actually going to a conference and we re going to be filming it. So we are the people that are going to be in charge of filming the conference so for us to be late would not be cool. Haha. But it is out of our hands so yeah. Fingers crossed though. Anyways, we haven t told you guys why we re going to Austria. Yeah, I guess we should talk about that. So every year there is one travel related conference that we attend and that is the Social Travel Summit. Last year it was held in Scotland and this year it is in Kitzbuehel in Austria so that is where we re going. We re flying to Vienna, Innsbruck and then taking a bus or like some kind of shuttle. Yes, exactly. Okay Sam what are you most looking forward to at STS? At STS the Social Travel Summit. Well, actually I m most looking forward to just meeting up with my buddies. We have a lot of friends in the industry. Seeing his friends. Quick update. We re in Vienna (Vienna International Airport) and we have like a 3 hour layover now because we missed our original flight. Final flight. We have to scan ourselves in. What did you just say to me? We re the last ones on the plane. Haha. We were so distracted playing on our phones they boarded so quietly. Yeah. Well, it must be I have a feeling it is a really small flight. Oh my gosh. Look at the leg room. Look at the leg room. Das bestes . We have what? Why Das bestes ? We have exit seats. And best of all? That is a closeup. Woah. Woah woah. And best of all it is only a 40 minute flight. So we ve arrived at last. At long last. We re exhausted. Long day. It is almost midnight I think. After diving for scallops and surfing in a kayak, I ended up on the island of Easdale, home to the world rock skimming (skipping) championship, and Duncan, the resident seaweed specialist. Growing up on Canada’s East Coast, I’ve played around in the North Atlantic Ocean a few times before. I also studied seaweeds in a course called Phycology at my university. I can’t say I went in knowing nothing, but I was rusty at best. Duncan had a whole afternoon lined up for us. Identifying, foraging, cutting, eating, and eventually cooking all sorts of different Algae, even one that tasted like Bacon!
