Ask This Old House plumbing and heating expert Richard Trethewey helps add ventilation to a bathroom sink that is unvented. SUBSCRIBE to This Old House: http://bit.ly/SubscribeThisOldHouse Cost: $100 Time: 2 hours Skill Level: Moderate Tools: Water pump pliers [https://amzn.to/2NTQlf1] Basin wrench [https://amzn.to/2A5p0yf] Adjustable wrench [https://amzn.to/2NVmdQy] Shopping List: New Faucet [https://amzn.to/2NSSis1] Plumber’s putty [https://amzn.to/32AimfO] Flexible supply tubing [https://amzn.to/2QiT5Wj] PVC drain piping [https://amzn.to/32Dl4kL] Air emittance valve [https://amzn.to/2LL8bxV] PVC primer [https://amzn.to/2PZfLud] PVC glue [https://amzn.to/2NVjR4e] Steps: 1. An unvented bathroom sink may have a full S-trap, which may siphon and expose the home to sewer gas. 2. Before doing any plumbing work, turn off the water at the main water supply or at local service valves. 3. Remove the old drain piping. 4. If replacing the faucet, remove that as well. 5. Use plumber’s putty to make a watertight seal on the faucet base plate. 6. Install the faucet per the manufacturer’s instructions. 7. Add flexible supply tubing between the faucet and the shut off valves. 8. Dryfit the PVC drain piping. A P-trap should be used. If venting through the roof is not an option, an air emittance valve can be added at the highest possible place in the cabinet below the sink. 9. Use plumber’s putty on the drain connections to the sink. 10. Prime and glue all PVC pieces for the remainder of the drain. Resources: Richard installed the Vega Single Control Centerset Bathroom Faucet in Brushed Nickel [https://amzn.to/31eFPmg], which is manufactured by Pfister Faucets (http://www.pfisterfaucets.com/). All other parts for this project, including PVC drain piping and an air admittance valve can be purchased from a home center or plumbing supply store. We cover activities you won t find in a typical Split tourism brochure, Split itinerary or Split, Croatia city tour also known as Grad Split Hrvatska. 15 Things to do in Split, Croatia Travel Guide Video Transcript: (Grad Split Hrvatska): It is no secret that Croatia is one of our favourite countries to travel in Europe, and Split is a destination that can’t be missed. Set in and around the walls of an ancient Roman palace looking out to the Adriatic Sea, Split is what travel dreams are made of: sunny, scenic, and filled with historic sights and culinary delights. The streets are marble maze where pieces of history lay hidden around every corner, the harbour is lined with cafes and palm trees drawing out locals and visitors to promenade in the sunshine, and let’s not forget about the abundance of restaurants serving up fresh seafood and Croatian dishes with a contemporary twist! Join us in this travel guide as we take you on a tour of the city and show you 15 things to do in Split, Croatia! Diocletian was a Roman Emperor who ruled from the years 284 to 305. He was born in Dalmatia, and when it came time to build his retirement residence, he chose this very spot which today forms the Old Town of Split. It made sense to start our tour of Split here. First, the bell tower for a quick look at the city from above. Next to the bell tower, you have the Mausoleum of Diocletian. Emperor Diocletian was a persecutor of Christians, and ironically, his mausoleum is now a cathedral named after Saint Domnius, who was martyred by Diocletian. We walked over to the Temple of Jupiter. Interesting fact: the sphinx you see at the entrance was one of the twelve sphinxes brought from Egypt by Emperor Diocletian. The crypt sits directly underneath the cathedral and it’s dedicated to Saint Lucy, another victim of the religious persecutions under the rule of Diocletian. We walked through the underground market which is open to the public free of charge. This market is also located at basement level and it is filled with vendors selling all types of artwork and souvenirs. We also walked up the Marjan Steps for scenic views of Split. Marjan Hill is 178 meters high and it takes 314 steps to reach the highest point. It’s a very pleasant walk with lots of greenery, and along the way we even came across an old stone church. Then on the way back down the hill, we went for a walk through Varoš. And while we were in Split, we also made time to visit a statue with a rather famous toe. This is Grgur Ninski. He was a medieval Croatian bishop who introduced the national language in the religious services. Now a travel tip: while you’re out strolling down the Rive Promenade, you can also access Matejuška Port, which is a small harbour for small boats used mainly by the local fishermen. This particular spot offers some really nice views looking back on Split. That’s a wrap for our travel guide to Split! If you have ideas of things to do in Split please share those in the comments below. This is part of our Travel in Croatia video series showcasing Croatian food, Croatian culture and Croatian cuisine. Music by Ehrling: https://soundcloud.com/ehrling
UV cameras expose a hidden world and reveal the incompleteness of our perception The Physics Girl looks at sunscreen: https://youtu.be/GRD-xvlhGMc How to make sunscreen from scratch: https://youtu.be/lMXAY5F28L0 In summary, ultraviolet light interacts differently with matter for a number of reasons: 1. Some pigments selectively absorb UV so they may appear white in the visible but dark in the UV. The pigments usually dissipate the UV energy as heat, though the breaking of bonds can also occur. 2. Fluorescent molecules absorb UV light and re-radiate that energy as visible light. This makes them look dark in the UV but glowing under black light. 3. Ultraviolet light scatters more than visible light because the wavelength is shorter and Raleigh scattering is proportional to the reciprocal of wavelength to the power of four. MIndanao has been amazing! In this Philippines travel vlog, myself, Finn Snow, Daniel Marsh, Becoming Filipino, and Bret Maverick AKA the Fighter Boys head to North Cotabato in search of waterfalls. In all my years of a travel vlogger, I ve never seen anything like this. 500m meters of falls and pools, with only a few locals there. We were quite sure so one had brought drones and cameras to make a travel vlog or take pictures before. We basically had this amazing filipino waterfall to ourselves. While we didn t have time to explore everything, a local came to show us how one of the falls can be used as a waterslide. That changed the day. It was a ton of fun. This place was called Matigol Falls.
