UV at ground level is non-ionizing but it damages DNA and causes photoaging - how? Also, it turns out glass doesn t block all UV (specifically UVA passes through). This is something I learned filming with the UV camera inside. Special thanks to Dr. Hayley Golbach, @hayleysgold on twitter https://twitter.com/hayleysgold Ultraviolet light causes damage to DNA, leads to cancer and photoaging: age spots and wrinkles. I was curious about this because UV is technically non-ionizing. A photon of UV doesn t have enough energy to strip an electron off atoms or molecules. However it does have enough energy to trigger photo-chemical reactions. For example, it causes pyrimidine dimers - the unauthorized covalent bonding of adjacent thymine or cytosine bases in our DNA. If these spots are not properly repaired, they may lead to mutations and cancer. Photoaging is typically the result of degradation of collagen and elastin fibers - scaffolding that supports the skin. This leads to wrinkles and saggy-looking skin. In this Philippines travel vlog, I team up with Becoming Filipino to take on a strange Filipino street food in Bankerohan Public Market, Davao City, Mindanao. Being a foreigner in the Philippines, Bulcachong took me a bit by surprise. It s a specialty in Davao City, and you can definitely see why. It s a unique street food, and quite interesting to look at. Perfect for a travel vlogger who likes adventurous eating. Made from Water Buffalo or Beef, this soup is actually pretty tasty. The meat is boiled for 4 or 5 hours until (mostly) tender. However the meat wasn t exactly what I was used to. Even after 2 months of eating and making travel vlogs of street food in the Philippines I had not seen anything like it before. Even in my entire career as a travel YouTuber, I have not seen this part of the animal before. Some was identifiable, some wasn t, a few bits were tender, most was chewy, but either way... this soup was delicious. I still don t know what half of the animal parts were but it doesn t matter. I would 100% have it again! And I would 100% recommend Davao City travel as well. Today we are going to be eating at Tanta. This is a really famous restaurant by Gastón Acurio. It is actually a chain. It has become so popular. That they have different locations all over the city. We ve been there once before. And we were so amazed by the food. The presentation. Especially the buffet table. Where you can grab like little bites to sample. A little bit of everything of Peruvian cuisine. That we were like we need to come back. We need to bring the camera. It just so happens to be one restaurant a few blocks down from our apartment. We re heading over there for lunch. The food has arrived. Everything you can see on the table right now with the exception of the beer is all mine. One thing I love about this restaurant is that they have this huge bar with like a buffet style. Actually it is not buffet because you kind of like pick and choose what you want to have. They have like individual bites in tapas size. You can have your own customized plates basically. If you want to sample a lot of Peruvian food without ordering a massive portion this is perfect. I ordered two causa s. Which are made with potato. And this one has chicken and peach. And this one has octopus. I ve had both of these before and I love them. I also got an empanada with ground beef and this has icing sugar on top. It is really popular for Peruvian empanadas to have icing sugar and then you squeeze a little bit of lemon.
