What color is your pet? Your beloved pet s personality is shaped by many things: their breed, upbringing, and even the color of their coat! That s right! Studies confirm that every fur color has its own specific feel to it! According to a study published in the journal Applied Animal Behavior Science, the different colors that English Cocker Spaniels come in can actually reflect their behavior and personality. Another study from the University of Sydney discovered that, on average, chocolate Labrador Retrievers don t live as long as the golden and black ones do. Scientists believe it may be recessive genes to blame. So fur color really does make a difference in both health and personality! But what about your fur baby? What does the color of their coat say about them? Let s find out! TIMESTAMPS: Black 1:41 Brown 3:00 Grey 3:44 White 4:34 Orange 5:34 Bi-colored 6:30 Tri-colored 8:22 #catbehavior #dogbehavior #petcolor Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ SUMMARY: - Don t think that you can befriend a black cat right away. They ll observe you from afar and then decide whether or not you re worthy of their time. They may come off as unpredictable and stubborn, but they re also very sensitive and shy. These black-clad introverts usually prefer a calm indoor lifestyle. - If you have a beautiful brown cat, it s probably very intelligent, friendly, and playful. Brown cats are not the type to be super goofy. Brown dogs are reserved and quiet. They re really calm and need some time to adjust to new people and places. - Grey cats like to have fun and can be quite mischievous at times. Grey dogs, in their turn, are quite curious and brave. If there s something strange going on, they ll definitely investigate it. They love to explore the environment around them and learn new things. - White cats are at a higher risk for congenital deafness and are prone to all types of vision problems and skin disorders. They re gentle, loving, and affectionate, and they often follow their owners around the house. - Dogs with a white coat are really playful, sweet, and just fun to be around. No matter how tired or sad you are, a white dog can always lift your mood thanks to their unbelievable love for life. - If there was an award for the goofiest and funniest pets, dogs and cats with orange-colored fur would win every single time! Apart from the obvious fact that ginger cats are simply adorable, they re also very friendly and awkwardly cute. - Black and white cats are very resourceful, affectionate, and clever. A lot of these cats make friends easily but not for long. - Seal Point cats, like Siamese kitties, for instance, are honest, assertive, and vocal. They often choose the “leader of the pack” in the family and express their love to them in particular. - Black and white pooches are usually really graceful and brainy. They re not the ones to cluelessly run from room to room and bark without reason. - Red-brown or cream-orange and white dogs are all about being active and showing their love every chance they get. These types also tend to be a little clumsy. - Calico cats are often perceived as unique and different, and it s true in many ways. These kitties are loving and lively, yet determined and independent. Their personality is never stable or predictable; they often change and are generally full of surprises. Ask This Old House painter Mauro Henrique demonstrates the best way to paint furniture built out of MDF SUBSCRIBE to This Old House: http://bit.ly/SubscribeThisOldHouse Time: 1-2 hours Cost: $80 Skill Level: Beginner Tools List for Painting MDF Furniture: Paint brush Paint roller Putty knife Sander Shopping List: Oil-based primer Latex paint in desired color Paint tray Wood filler 220 grit sandpaper Tack cloth Steps: 1. Start by priming the edges on the inside of the cubbies with an oil based primer. Once all the edges have been cut, use a roller to paint the rest of the bench. 2. Allow the primer to dry and then add a second coat the same way. 3. Once the second coat has dried, fill in the nail holes with wood filler and a putty knife. 4. Sand all the filled holes with 220 grit sandpaper. 5. Wipe down the bench with tack cloth to remove the dust from sanding. 6. Paint the top coat of water-based paint on the bench using the same technique as priming. Resources: To prevent water from damaging the MDF, Mauro recommends using an oil-based primer, since it repels water. For this bench, Mauro used BIN shellac base primer, manufactured by Zinsser (https://www.rustoleum.com/product-catalog/consumer-brands/zinsser/). For the top coat, Mauro used Benjamin Moore Advanced in “Simply White” with a semi-gloss finish. The top coat is a water-based paint. The other painting materials Mauro used, including the wood filler, paint brushes, and rollers can all be found at home centers and paint supply stores. Special assistance with this project was provided by Mauro’s Painting (http://maurospainting.com). See how designer Philippe Beauparlant added a multipurpose carport — which doubles as a dining area and parking garage — to maximize function on his narrow lot. String lights and speakers make the area ideal for entertaining when the carport isn’t in use. A table and chairs are hidden behind Jackson Pollock-inspired sliding doors, and can easily be brought out to create a dining area. Heaters and ceiling fans mean this double-duty carport is perfect for all-season entertaining. Few cities offer a more immersive experience into the past than the walled city of Dubrovnik on the southern coast of Croatia. With its thick medieval walls, massive gates and soaring battlements, Dubrovnik transports visitors back to a time when the fortified city was a major maritime power commanding the third-largest navy in the Mediterranean. The beautifully preserved city has long been the country’s star tourist destination, and it’s garnering even more attention today as a filming location for the popular HBO series “Game of Thrones.” Fans of history and fantasy alike will delight in all the sights and attractions in Dubrovnik, and the nearby beaches and islands offer ample opportunities for fun in the sun too. Even a short visit to Dubrovnik makes it easy to understand why the city is nicknamed the Pearl of the Adriatic.

Ask This Old House plumbing and heating expert Richard Trethewey travels to Seattle to help a homeowner whose shower runs cold whenever there’s a demand for hot water elsewhere in the house SUBSCRIBE to This Old House: http://bit.ly/SubscribeThisOldHouse Cost: $30 Skill Level: Beginner Tools List for Replacing a Shower Cartridge: Flathead screwdriver Cartridge removal tool Caulking gun Shopping List: Replacement cartridge Grease Silicone caulking Foam bead Steps: 1. These instructions apply to the earliest models of single handle shower valves. Follow manufacturer’s instructions for your specific style of valve. 2. Start by removing the handle of the shower. There’s usually a cover plate that can be pried off with a flathead screwdriver. Then, hold the handle tight and unscrew the screw behind the cover plate with the same screwdriver. 3. Remove the escutcheon plate by unscrewing it. 4. Look to see if there’s a water shut off near the shower valve. If not, shut the water off at the main water supply line. 5. There’s a small clip holding the cartridge in the shower valve. Carefully pry that up. 6. Use a cartridge removal tool to carefully work the old cartridge back and forth until it can be safely remove from the wall. The cartridge removal tool may be included with the replacement cartridge. 7. Once the cartridge is loose, use a pair of pliers to carefully pull it out of the wall. Don’t force it out. If it gets damaged while being removed, it could destroy the whole valve and then the entire thing will need to be replaced. 8. Put some grease on the replacement cartridge and carefully work it back into the valve. 9. Put the small clip back in to hold the new cartridge in place. 10. Add a bead of silicone and a foam bead around the back of the escutcheon plate to make a watertight seal. 11. Screw the cover plate and the shower handle back into place. 12. Turn the water back on. Resources: Depending on which company manufactured the valve, there may be some variations to how the valve cartridge is replaced. This homeowner had a Moen valve and the replacement parts were manufactured by Moen (https://www.moen.com/). They can be found at most home centers and plumbing supply stores. They sometimes come with a cartridge removal tool, so it helps to get the replacement cartridge before starting the work. The screwdriver and pliers Richard used can be found at home centers.
