This week we are exploring alternative energy sources. We ll look at how biomass can be burned as a fuel source, how hydrogen can be used in a fuel cell to generate electrical power, and how nuclear fission provides power to the grid. We ll also discuss how nuclear fusion might someday do the same without any radioactive waste. Ask This Old House plumbing and heating expert Richard Trethewey shares some advice on maintaining water heaters SUBSCRIBE to This Old House: http://bit.ly/SubscribeThisOldHouse   Richard explains that most tank-type water heaters last for about 8-12 years. However, by changing the anode rod every 2 years, you can make the hot water tank last for as long as 30 years. The rods can be found at home centers. Cost: $10 and up Skill Level: Beginner Shopping List: Anode rod Steps: 1. Look for a rating plate on the water heater that will tell when the tank was manufactured and the warranty life. Tanks that have reached the end of their warranty period are more likely to fail. 2. If you’re planning to change to a different style water heater, like going from a tank-style to a tankless, its better to change proactively. 3. Water heaters placement will also help determine when it should be replaced. A water heater in the living area or a finished basement could do more damage if it floods than one in an unfinished basement. 4. By proactively changing the anode rod in a tank style water heater every few years, a tank can be kept in service for many years. If the anode rod isn’t changed in the first few years of the water heater’s life, it may be impossible to remove later. 5. Periodically drain the water heater by attaching a hose to the draw off at the bottom of the tank, turn the water supply off, and then turn the water supply off and on a few times quickly. 6. If you notice a leak on the floor, turn off the water supply, attach a hose to the draw off, and drain the tank below the level of the leak. Call a plumber to replace the water heater. Resources: All types of water heaters can be found at home centers and plumbing supply houses. How to look younger? A hairstyle is a crucial part of any look. But did you know that it can also take a few years off your age? All you have to do is follow a couple of easy steps, and it won t be long til you start enjoying your brand-new transformation! Bright Side has compiled some practical and easy-to-follow advice that’ll help you to always look your undisputable best! Did you know, for example, that your daily menu affects the condition of your hair? Don’t be lazy, and give your hair the love it deserves to keep it looking flawless at any age! TIMESTAMPS: Your haircut options 0:46 Your hair color 1:19 The length of your hair 2:08 The volume of your hair 2:46 The parting of your hair 3:39 Adding a fringe (aka bangs) 4:15 Your everyday styling 5:13 Your evening hairdos 6:17 Superfoods for healthy hair 7:33 #healthyhair #howtolookyounger #foreveryoung Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ SUMMARY: - When it comes to an effortlessly youthful look, the best haircut choices are always layered hairstyles, face- and neck-framing feather cuts, ragged-style locks, or step cuts. - Even though brunettes look incredibly elegant and attractive, the best color to jazz up your look is actually blond! - Specialists suggest that the older you get, the shorter your haircut should become. But ultra-short hairstyles tend to emphasize the oval shape of your face, which inevitably becomes less defined with age. - Most of us tend to go for hairstyles with a great deal of volume, and that s actually the right approach! The truth is, no matter how fabulous slicked hair looks, this hairstyle always makes you appear older. - Something as simple as a parting can improve or destroy your look. Usually, wearing a center parting adds strictness to your image and, therefore, makes you look older. - A fringe hairstyle has tons of lovers and haters, but one thing is certain — it can be really rejuvenating to your image! - Try to stay away from hair styling accessories of low quality like garish plastic combs, children’s hair clips, or velvet bands cause they ll only emphasize your real age. - When you prepare to go out for the evening, say no to backcombing, perfectly fixed strands, raised hairdos, and retro-type styling. In this converted loft makeover, designer Rachel Deeks transforms a circa-1929 space that was formerly a glue factory into a bright home built for modern living. See how she used a blue and white palette, brass accents and tons of texture to bring a fresh look to the space. Rachel started with a clean slate in the kitchen by painting the existing cabinets blue and white, then adding a white subway tile backsplash and brushed brass sconces. She continued the contemporary vibe into the living room, with patterned throw pillows, comfortable furniture and eye-catching accessories. An industrial-style wooden staircase brings warmth to the space. There was physics before Einstein in the same way that there was biology before Darwin. Einstein didn’t just add some new ideas to physics. And he didn’t just add a unifying framework for doing physics, like Newton. Einstein took what people thought was physics, turned it upside down, then turned it inside out. *** Crash Course is on Patreon! Mellor, directed by Remus and Kiki. Thank you so much to our patrons for your support! Without you this video would not be possible! Travel Video Transcript: Alright guys so for today s video we are going to be giving you a tour of Don Quijote. This place is an institution here in Japan. It is. It is probably the biggest discount store in the whole country and they have over a hundred and sixty locations across Japan. This place is massive. We are at the Shinjuku location and we were here a couple of days ago and we only covered one floor and it was amazing. Yeah. We were like we need to come back for a proper tour. It is crazy like your head is on a swivel yeah you are looking up, down and I ve never been in somewhere that has so much stuff inside of it. A store that has so much stuff inside of it and so many colorful displays as well. Yes. So much random stuff so let s go in so we can show you. Already the interior of the store is like spilling out onto the street. Yes. They ve got like bicycles and entire shelves. I know. With random stuff. And the other side of the store they had a whole section for just Korean items and all kinds of Korean noodles and chips. Korean noodles. Yes. Here it is like camping gear. Camping gear. Okay so let s grab a basket because I can think of a couple of items we are going to find. Yes, we re actually picking up some Kit Kat, Kit Kats for a Japanese Kit Kat taste test video coming to you soon. Exactly. Hello Japan. Go Japan! Yeah so this is the wall that has all of the kitkat flavors you could ever imagine. And the one that we can t find that is cheaper elsewhere is we re going to get this one over here which is the Sake. And we re also looking for the Wasabi flavored one which is right there. Why don t you grab those for us. I feel like we re probably not going to like either of them but hey we re doing it for research. If I can reach up here. Oh my gosh it is high. The struggle is real guys. I almost put out my back just there. Alright chocolate. In the bag. In the bag. Also another thing that I want to get here are face masks. Like sheet masks because those are fun and those are cheap. Yep. Oh look at these. Different kinds of mochi I believe. This. What is that? Would be amazing for Sam. It is to pull out your nose hairs. Oh my gosh. Your long ew nose hairs. I don t have nose hairs. What are you talking about? You definitely do. What are you talking about? I ll let you to decide. It is called Gosso but I think it should be called gross-o. Another really cool section as soon as you walk is the green tea and matcha flavors. Matcha everything. So you ve got bon bons. You ve got cookies. Chocolate. Other chocolate. Mochi as well. As you go down here you have the famous Pocky sticks. They are like pretzel sticks. Toilet paper. Pampers. Makeup. Japanese Make up. Japanese makeup. Show us that. Eyelashes. Show us all. Oh my gosh. Look at the size of these. Eyelash extensions.. Imagine. Eye-mazing. Do you want to get some eye-amazing? Oh wow, look Audrey they even have watches. I know. Oh my gosh I love Casio. This is an entire Casio section. It is pretty reasonably priced too. Well I mean it is not cheap. A lot of them are about $100 US dollars but that is what these G-Shock Casio s go for. I have no idea waht this is. If it is something like ovaltine. Laxative or just a Matcha drink. I have no idea guys. But it looks interesting. Oh my gosh you found it. Face masks. You found the face masks. But I feel like these are pricey. These are about the equivalent of $3 dollars and I know I ve seen them for like $1 US dollar. Can you get them cheaper? We get definitely get them cheaper.
