With all the talk of in the news of a Venezuela crisis, Nicolas Maduro, and a devastated economy in 2019 ... we wanted to show a different side of this beautiful country. In this episode we travel back from Angel Falls in Canaima National Park to our basecamp. Along the way we make a quick pit stop to try some Cachiri, a local fermented alcoholic beverage using Casava. Upon arriving at basecamp, we find a surprise. The Venezuela Airforce was doing a tour of the small communities, at was at our lodge. A concert had been organized, and emotions were running high. Unfortunately we couldn t capture all the magic of this moment on camera, but you could feel the tension. People were sad and frustrated with the situation in Venezuela, and wanted the mess to end. The music provided hope and positivity to the group, and the speeches ended with "This is my Venezuela" the one with music, dance, and laughing. So it continued, and we were invited to join. South America knows how to party. Latino culture is one of my favourites, and the Venezuelans do it right. They were teaching us Reggaton, Salsa, Bachata... it was a crazy night, and a highlight for Lexie and I. Our hearts go out the the Venezuelan people. Myself and my travel companion Lexie Alford visited this beautiful place late 2018, with the mission to show another side of a country in crisis. We planned to show the beauty of the people, and the natural beauty of the country. This is not a video about the current economical or political situation. Ask This Old House general contractor Tom Silva travels to Pittsburgh to replace a bi-fold closet door with one that is more appropriate for the house SUBSCRIBE to This Old House: http://bit.ly/SubscribeThisOldHouse Time: 6-8 hours Cost: $800 Skill Level: Moderate Tools List for Replacing a Closet Door: Drill Miter saw Level Measuring tape Screwdriver Shopping List: Pre-hung door Reproduction door hardware 2x4 studs Framing screws Shims Steps: 1. Start by removing the old door from the closet opening. 2. Measure the width of the door opening and order a door that size or smaller, to make it easier. 3. Cut the 2x4 studs to length and then secure them to the sides of the door opening using framing screws and the drill. Use additional 2x4s or rip down additional stock as needed until the opening is roughly 2” wider than the width of the door. 4. Check the opening for level at the top and plumb on both sides. If it’s slightly off plumb on the sides, that can be corrected with shims. 5. To make sure the header stays level, hold the level at about eye level and make two reference marks on both sides of the rough opening. 6. Measure from the reference mark to the header on both sides of the opening. Transfer the measurement of the shorter side to both sides of the jamb on the pre-hung door. This will make the door level. 7. To get the correct height for the jamb, measure from the reference lines on the rough opening down to the floor on both sides. Then, measure from the reference line on the jamb to the bottom of the jamb. If the jamb is longer than the measurement from the opening, it will need to be cut. 8. Cut the jamb to length based on the reference measurements. 9. The door may also need to be cut down slightly to allow the door to swing properly. 10. Remove the door from the jamb. 11. Hold the jamb into the rough opening and line up the reference marks from the jamb and the rough opening. Be sure that the edge of the jamb is flush with the face of the wall. 12. Slide shims behind the door jamb on the hinge side so that it has a roughly even gap as the other side of the jamb. 13. Predrill some holes in the jamb and the rough opening. Then, secure the jamb to the opening with framing screws. 14. Hold the level against the edge of the jamb just screwed into the opening. Once the level is plumb, pull the jamb out as much as necessary to meet the level, add shims behind the jamb to hold it in that position, and screw it into the rough opening the same way as before. 15. Rehang the door in the jamb to check how it swings before securing the rest of the jamb. 16. Secure the striker side of the jamb to the rough opening using the same method. 17. To even out the gap between the door and the jamb, add shims to the middle of each side of the gap between the jamb and the rough opening. This should push the jamb inwards, closer to the door. Secure those shims with screws. 18. Install the reproduction door hardware to the door using a screwdriver and the pieces that come with the hardware. 19. When bees wake up from hibernation, some flowers have already finished blooming. - The reason for Colony Collapse Disorder could also lie in the loss of the honey bee habitat. They pollinate more than 80% of flowering plants. In the US, these little critters pollinate up to 75% of vegetables, fruits, and nuts and more than 80% of all crops. - Some products, such as almonds, can be pollinated exclusively by honey bees. We ended up getting off at the wrong place so we hopped on an autorickshaw that brought us nearby the ferries of Sagar Lake. Upon arriving we noticed some delicious Hyderabad street food options so we cooled off with a refreshing lime soda that featured freshly squeezed limes, salt and pepper. Next we had roasted peanuts which came wrapped inside of a folder newspaper. We started to explore attractions in Hyderabad, India by taking a ferry across Sagar Lake to check out the Buddha Statue of Hyderabad. It was gigantic and we met so many friendly locals and tourists who wanted to take selfies with us. Upon returning we resumed eating Indian street food by sampling two differents kinds of chats: papdi chaat and samosa chaat. Featuring chickpeas, onions, mint and tamrind chutneys they were delicious and inexpensive. To cool off we had Kulfi which is Indian ice cream made from milk, pistachios, almonds and saffron. To finish off the day we went to the Hindu Temple of Birla Mandir. Although we could not visit without camears we enjoyed the outside perimeter and met some friendly locals. Overall it was an awesome afternoon of eating Indian street food and checking out top attractions in Hyderabad, India. However, we got dropped off at the wrong place, so we started off by jumping into an autorickshaw. Alright, so we ve got a tuk-tuk for 60 Rupees right bro? 60 rupees. Because we didn t we kind of picked the wrong spot to get dropped off at. Yeah and now we re going to see the Buddha statue here on Sagar Lake. The Buddha statue is a humongous statue in the middle of the lake and the only way to get there is through Lumpini Park and get a ferry from there. The boarding time is between 2 and 8 P.M. What are we having dude to cool down? What we have here is a guy selling lime juice. It is actually soda lime juice We re getting 20 peanuts here from this guy who has setup his street food stall right on it is like a bicycle stand. You can see the fire and then he is just like his spatula and he s moving them around and he s putting them into like it is like a newspaper. Basically this is a monolith statue of the Buddha. This is the biggest monolith statue of the Buddha in the world. That means they came from one piece of rock. They carved one piece of rock this entire thing. The locals here in this city have been the friendliest of any city I ve ever visited in India to date. The street food tour continues. We ve got two different items. We ve got Papdi chaat over here and samosa chaat. We have chickpeas, onions and sev. We re getting Kulfi Indian ice cream to cool down. We re about to enter the Hillrock temple of Birla Mandir and it is quite impressive from the outside What an afternoon. Like total randomness. We had no idea what were going to do. We just decided to come to the lake, see what we could find. It was just such a fun outing. We ll see you with more India travel and food content soon. Ciao guys. Peace.
