This Philippines Travel vlog almost kicks off with a disaster. On our Fighter Boys road trip through Northern Samar, our Drive Shaft breaks. This is a serious problem, as in some cases this can launch a truck into the air. Luckily this time all we had to do is wait for the local mechanics to fix it, we rewarded them with a giant box of Fighter Wine. We then visit the beautiful Bangon falls. A cool cascading waterfall in the heart of the jungle. The Fighter Boys were very ready for a quick shower after all day in the sun waiting for the bus to be fixed. Last year I travelled for 3 months as a foreigner in the Philippines before concluding my filipino travel vlog series with the Fighter Boys trip with Kyle Jennermann of Becoming Filipino, Daniel Marsh, Finn Snow, Bret Maverick. Nicknamed the Fighter Boys, after our sponsor Fighter Wine. Hope you enjoyed this wild video! Would you jump in the falls too? Long ago, when giant lizards roamed the Earth and Netflix wasn’t around, the Asian continent got crashed into by an unexpected visitor that ended up being a life-long neighbor. India had it covered more than 2,500 years ago, way back in the 6th century B.C.E.! - Up until the early 18th century, India was the only source of diamonds in the world. According to the Gemological Institute of America, these precious stones were first discovered and traded in the 4th century B.C.E. - Civilized urban life as we know it dates back about 5,000 years in India. The Ancient History Encyclopedia says that, by 2600 B.C.E., dozens of towns and cities belonged to that civilization. - Speaking of better social conditions, during the Vedic period, which lasted from about 1500 to 500 B.C.E., the Indian society was probably the most equal in the known world at that time. - The concept of “zero” and the rules of its use were first invented in India at around the 7th century C.E. Before that, the idea of “nothing” hadn’t even been treated as a number. - “Shampoo” is derived from the Hindi word “champo,” which means “to massage” or “knead.” And the first mention of this “head kneading” was by Greek historian Strabo back in the 4th century B.C.E. - One of India’s greatest minds lived in the 5th century C.E. His name was Aryabhata, and he wrote a treatise on astronomy that became a foundation for many later studies. - Do you play chess? Even if you don’t, you know what it is. But did you know that its ancestor was born in India too? The ancient game was called chaturanga, and it appeared at around the 6th century C.E. - India wasn’t always a “subcontinent.” In the era of dinosaurs, over 100 million years ago, it was actually an island! It had broken off from a supercontinent and slowly but steadily traveled north, arriving to its present-day location in just about 50 million years. The tallest skyscraper in the world, Burj Khalifa, is in the United Arab Emirates. Other skyscrapers don’t seem much taller than trees when you look down from the top of it. But what if we built one even taller than that? What if we built... a billion-floor-skyscraper? Is that even possible? Let s figure out! It means that 26 million people, which is approximately the population of Scandinavia, can fit into 1 square mile. - According to UNESCO, each person needs to have at least 322 square feet of personal space to feel comfortable. - First of all, such a skyscraper would be so heavy that its bottom part wouldn t be able to withstand the pressure and would collapse, bringing the whole construction down. - The next issue would be winds that reach very high speeds at a height of 6 miles. In fact, most atmospheric jet streams move at a constant speed of more than 57 miles per hour. - Another huge problem would be elevators, because surely you wouldn t want to use stairs to climb to your apartment situated on the 1,235,677th floor? - Broken satellite pieces, damaged spaceships, and other space trash can seriously damage our skyscraper. - As you know, the incredible Burj Khalifa in Dubai, is the tallest building in the world. The height of the building is a staggering 2,717 ft, which is two times taller than the Empire State Building, and almost three times taller than the Eiffel Tower. - Rising from the desert of Saudi Arabia is Jeddah Tower. When finished, it will be a magnificent 3,281-feet-tall construction with an observatory on the 157th floor! The Renaissance was a cultural revitalization that spread across Europe, and had repercussions across the globe, but one smallish city-state in Italy was in many ways the epicenter of the thing. Florence, or as Italians might say, Firenze, was the home to a seemingly inordinate amount of the art, architecture, literature, and cultural output of the Renaissance. Artists like Michelangelo, Leonardo daVinci, Sandro Boticelli, and many others were associated with the city, and the money of patrons like the Medici family made a lot of the art possible. Today you ll learn about how the Renaissance came to be, and what impact it had on Europe and the world. Our Sources: Hunt, Lynn et al. The Making of the West: Peoples and Cultures, 6th ed. The story of three impressive high school science projects. Can you guess which student won $250,000 in the #RegeneronSTS? Applications open June 1: http://bit.ly/2HkLXT1 This video was sponsored by Regeneron. The Science Talent Search was founded and produced by the Society for Science and the Public. Huge thanks to the students: Ronak Roy, Ana Humphrey, and Anjali Chadha. It was great getting to meet all of you and learn about your original scientific research. Special thanks to Assistant Professor Konstantin Batygin for discussing Ana s research and Planet 9 with me. More is coming on the Planet 9 front. Ronak came up with a new design for the phoropter, the device used to determine eye-glass prescriptions. It s basically been unchanged for 200 years. Using a liquid lens, he miniaturized the device and wrote an algorithm to determine your prescription. Ana used math and physics to search for hidden exoplanets. There are a number of reasons why the transit method and Kepler telescope may have missed them: they re too small, too inclined, or take too long to orbit and so were not seen. By considering which planetary systems have additional space for more planets, Ana came up with 560 locations where we may look again for planets in future. Anjali developed an internet enabled device for measuring arsenic concentrations in drinking water. The device performs several chemical reactions to release the arsenic into a measurable state. It then reacts the arsenic with a test strip to produce a color output. This color is sampled by a camera and processed to determine the concentration of arsenic in the water sample. This has significant potential applications around the world helping reduce exposure to arsenic and potentially other contaminants. Filming by Raquel Nuno

Whenever you feel like you don’t have enough time to end it, turn back to your lane and not the side of the road. - Whenever the frost is coming, remove the wiper blades overnight and they won’t freeze to the glass. And finally, never ever run the wipers on a dry windshield. They are meant to be used on a wet surface. - Imagine it s a hot summer day, you get in the car that s been in the sun for hours. But the AC system accumulates toxic substances you don t want to breath in. So pump out the hot air naturally before you get in the car. - If you live in climate where seasons do change and winters are snowy and cold, you most likely only use you AC in the summer. If you make it sleep all winter long, you might not be able to turn it back on in the summer. The same is true for the heater, you have to turn it on at least for 30 seconds even in the summer months. - When it s below 14 °F outside and you get in your vehicle, don t try to start it straight away. Before you start it, turn on the high beams for 3 to 5 seconds. It will let you run the current through your system and help the engine start easier. - In case you get stuck in mud, sand or snow, don’t panic and remember there’s always a way to get out. Deflate the tires letting out about half of the air from them to increase their surface area. - When you re driving along a narrow road, and there is a flow of cars going your way, pay attention to their wheels. If you feel like the driver is acting weirdly don t wait for them to flash the turn signals. - It’s really smart to keep the remote control apart from the rest of your keys and always keep it in your pocket. Also, don’t activate the Anti Theft mode just for fun. - It s pretty obvious that you have to keep your windshield clean, but there are some things you might oversee in this process. You side car windows have rubber molding that you most likely forget to clean.
