Emirates Flight Catering in Dubai makes all the snacks, main dishes and desserts served aboard the airline s 200,000 flights each year. The facility runs 24-7, dishing out 110 million meals a year. Emirates 1,800 chefs from around the world create region-specific menus for each flight. A previous version of this video inaccurately identified lamb chops as pork chops. Emirates serves only Halal food and has never served pork aboard their flights. We regret the error. Come join us for a busy day of travel in Japan as we head from Nikko to Tokyo by train followed by a bus ride to Takayama. Our day started off in Nikko where we reluctantly said goodbye to our favorite destination thus far from our travels in Japan. Taking the train in Japan has been our favorite mode of transportation and it was wonderful to have such a scenic ride on a sunny morning from Nikko to Tokyo. Upon arriving in Tokyo we took the metro to nearby Shinjuku Expressway Bus Terminal which just happens to be right beside Shake Shack. Naturally, we devoured a few burgers at Shake Shack before boarding our bus from Tokyo to Takayama. The weather changed from overcast to torrential downpour as we arrived in Takayama. Without proper umbrellas, we waded through the flooding streets (obviously we couldn t film to protect our camera gear) until we finally found our apartment with some help from a kind local couple. After checking in I grabbed us a quick bite from Family Mart before called it a day. Overall, it was an extremely bus day of travel in Japan alternating between taking the train and bus but we are very excited to be in Takayama. Video Transcript: The travels through Japan continue. Yep. We re actually we were on our way to the train station and we saw this like crazy monkey shaking a tree. Yeah. That is the first monkey we have seen in Nikko. it is a travel day so we are leaving Nikko behind and we are traveling to Takayama. Yeah. But we have to go via Tokyo in order to connect. So we re going to be taking the train down to Tokyo. Getting on the metro going to the Shinjuku Expressway Bus Terminal and then getting on a bus. So it is going to be a long day. I don t think we re going to reach our final destination until like 8:30 PM tonight. Yeah. But we re going to bring you along for the ride as usual. Indeed. Let s get started. One person this price. Okay. Two persons. Here is your departure time. Nine fifty seven. Platform number four. Number four. Okay so we are all sorted with our train tickets. I think I already mentioned this on the journey up to Nikko but basically the Nikko Pass only covers like the slowest mode of transportation to get here and back to Tokyo. Yep. But it involves like a whole bunch of transfers. So we opted to upgrade our ticket and pay a little bit more and it is just directly there. We don t have to be hauling our luggage on and off on and off. Our upgrade wasn t too much. It was 2000 something? Yen. Yeah. For both of us. Like a little bit over 10 dollars per person to upgrade. Which isn t bad. That is not bad. Which is great. Which means we re on a faster more direct train. Yes, and we can relax and enjoy the scenery. So we re scheduled to arrive in Tokyo at 11:45 AM. Which gives us about 2 hours. No, even more. Yeah, two and a half hours. Two and a half hours at least. To get to the bus terminal. Have some lunch. I think that is plenty of time. Back in Tokyo. Welcome to the Jungle. Yeah, we re back in the urban jungle of Tokyo. Basically we have to take a metro to Shinjuku. We still have our transportation cards from Tokyo. Yes. We have a little bit of credit left on them. We have the Suica card here. And so yeah the plan is we still have over two hours before we catch the bus so we ll arrive in Shinjuku find some lunch and then wait to catch the bus later. What is going on? What is going on? We are back at Shake Shack. How many times on this trip have we been here? Well we ve arrived and torrential downpour. Yeah, there is actually a storm. There has been thunder and lightening now for about the past hour. Yes. And we ve arrived and as we were coming in it is like basically the streets are flooding. Join us for a complete Japanese Hotel Tour as we take you around all areas of our hotel including our room, common spaces, guest facilities and more at Nikko Station II. For our trip to Japan we almost exclusively rented apartments; however, with a chance to find good accommodations in Nikko at a hotel we jumped at the opportunity. We found the hotel to be loaded with guest services including outside locker storage, a plethora of vending machines, laundry facilities, lounging area, dining hall and more. The Hotel Room Tour features our small room which has modern conveniences such as a air conditioning, a small fridge and television and a bathroom featuring a modern Japanese toilet. Complimentary breakfast was served every morning and we found the staff overall to be very friendly. We really enjoyed staying in a hotel in Japan (Nikko Station II) and we recommend considering it for your trip to Japan if you re visiting Nikko. * * * * * * * * * * GEAR WE USE Panasonic GH5: http://amzn.to/2yqTUyi Canon G7X ii: http://amzn.to/2yqtM6B Rode Video Micro: http://amzn.to/2wTguTM Joby Gorilla Pod: http://amzn.to/1PgoY5F SanDisk 16GB Extreme Pro: http://amzn.to/25KEErs * * * * * * * * * * SOCIAL MEDIA & TRAVEL BLOGS AUDREY: blog: http://thatbackpacker.com/ instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thatbackpacker/ facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thatbackpacker twitter: https://twitter.com/ThatBackpacker SAMUEL: blog: http://nomadicsamuel.com/ facebook: https://www.facebook.com/nomadicsamuel twitter: https://twitter.com/NomadicSamuel instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nomadicsamuel/ * * * * * * * * * * Full Japanese Hotel Tour | What are Japanese Hotels Really Like? Transcript: We are currently in Nikko and we re going to be checking out tomorrow morning. This is the only hotel we have booked for our two months in Japan. It has been apartments the whole time. We have a Ryokan coming up. We sure do. It is definitely not a hotel. We wanted to take this opportunity to give you guys a tour of a Japanese Hotel so you can see what they are like. I think there is a few quirks, a few differences that you don t necessarily find in North American hotels. And you notice those right at the beginning. Let s just get started. Let s walk into this hotel. We are staying at Nikko Station II which is right across from the train station basically. In true Japanese style a vending machine of course. We ve got green tea. Coffee drinks. Water. There is a coin locker outside of the hotel. I guess this is like if you re checking out. Check out is in the morning and if you are not leaving right away maybe you are sticking around you d use the lockers. Let s start making our way into the hotel. There is a smoking space. Before you even get in your have umbrellas for guests. There is a laundry machine and another vending machine with noodles cups. There is also a pant press machine that you can take to your room. We are at the end of the hall. Room 425. Let s begin the actual room tour. This is a Japanese Hotel shoes need to come off. They did leave us some fancy little slippers. As soon as you walk in you ve got this tiny closet. A foot wide. Speaking of lots of buttons we have a toilet with lots of buttons. It is a small bathroom. We ve got a hairdryer. They ve left us two toothbrushes with toothpaste. We have body soap and rinse in shampoo. We have a bed flush against the wall. Very space efficient. That concludes the room portion of the hotel tour. We ll remember our cameras tomorrow morning we re going to have breakfast and show you that breakfast area the foods they serve. It is a mix of Japanese and Western food. A tour of my breakfast tray. I got some rice with curry. Little bit of pickled stuff over here. A sausage, scrambled eggs. They have mini cherry tomatoes. They also have slices of baguette bread. I would say that pretty much concludes our Japanese Hotel tour. I feel like we ve seen everything there is to see. We ve shown you everything we can. Behind the scenes. Maybe you found a few quirky elements. Now you know what to expect from your first Japanese hotel when you come and travel here. This is part of our Travel in Japan video series showcasing Japanese food, Japanese culture and Japanese experiences - like staying in this Japanese hotel! * * * * * * * * * * Music We Use: http://bit.ly/SamAudreyMusic

You’ve probably seen Hollywood movies where a hole in the side of a plane causes utter chaos. Luckily, in reality, small damage to fuselage won t have such dramatic consequences. But a big opening in a plane’s side will. So would you believe me if I told you a pilot managed to land a plane with its much of it’s roof torn completely off? After all, it wasn t a requirement, and they didn t have to do it. - The length of the missing part was 18.5 ft long, and that was the aircraft skin that covered the plane from the cockpit back to the fore-wing area. - The plane started to roll from side to side, and it was becoming increasingly harder to control. Everybody who was in the cockpit immediately put on their oxygen masks, and the captain took over the aircraft. - All three flight attendants were standing along the aircraft aisle. The one who was the closest to the front of the plane was swept out through the hole in the roof. - But the problem was at that time, in case of emergency, the airport control tower had to dial 911 just like anyone else. l - As the plane was approaching the runway, the left engine failed, and the aircraft started rocking and shaking. The captain made an attempt to restart the engine but didn t succeed. - Everyone on the plane, except for the flight attendant who had been pulled out of the plane, was alive, although 65 people were injured. Most people had been hurt by flying debris and torn pieces of fuselage. - During one interview that followed the accident, passenger Gayle Yamamoto remembered that she had spotted a crack in the fuselage when she was boarding. Unfortunately, she was the only one who had seen this damage, and the woman hadn t thought that the crack was important enough to inform the crew. Join us as we travel to Nikko, Japan in this travel guide exploring one of the most scenic areas of the country mere hours outside of Tokyo. Nikko (日光) ended up being one of our favorite destinations that we visited on our trip to Japan. After spending a month in the hustle and bustle grinder of Tokyo getting out to the countryside in Japan was a top priority for us. While in Nikko we ate delicious local cuisine (Yuba - Tofu skin), visited shrines and temples and hiked and marveled at lakes and waterfalls. If you re visiting Japan, and want to explore rural areas, be sure to include Nikko in your itinerary. 10 Things to do in Nikko, Japan Travel Guide 1) Shinkyo Bridge (神橋) 2) Shrines and Temples of Nikko including Toshogu Shrine (東照宮) 3) Street Food in Nikko (Yuba Manju) 4) Akechidaira Ropeway (明智平) 5) Kegon Waterfalls (華厳の滝) 6) Yuba for Lunch 7) Boat tour on Lake Chuzenji (中禅寺湖) 8) Yumoto Onsen Foot Spa 9) Ice Cream at Sanbonmatsu 10) Senjogahara Moor (戦場ヶ原) GEAR WE USE Panasonic GH5: http://amzn.to/2yqTUyi Canon G7X ii: http://amzn.to/2yqtM6B Rode Video Micro: http://amzn.to/2wTguTM Joby Gorilla Pod: http://amzn.to/1PgoY5F SanDisk 16GB Extreme Pro: http://amzn.to/25KEErs SOCIAL MEDIA & TRAVEL BLOGS AUDREY: blog: http://thatbackpacker.com/ instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thatbackpacker/ facebook: https://www.facebook.com/thatbackpacker twitter: https://twitter.com/ThatBackpacker SAMUEL: blog: http://nomadicsamuel.com/ facebook: https://www.facebook.com/nomadicsamuel twitter: https://twitter.com/NomadicSamuel instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nomadicsamuel/ Our visit Nikko travel guide covers some of the top attractions including a food guide, top sightseeing tourist attractions and the city by day including visiting mountains, waterfalls, temples, shrines and lakes. We also cover off-the-beaten-path outdoor activities you won t find in a typical Nikko tourism brochure, Nikko itinerary or Nikko, Japan tour. 10 Things to do in Nikko Tour | Japan Travel Guide Video Transcript: After a month in Tokyo, Nikko was everything we were hoping for! We knew we were in for a treat on the train ride over once we started seeing forests and mountains all around us and the town did not disappoint. Nikko was the breath of fresh air we were looking for; during our visit we hiked through shrines and temples, cruised a beautiful lake at the base of a volcano, sampled some local dishes featuring tofu skin, and basically had the perfect city break. So in this travel guide, we are going sharing some of our favourite things to do in Nikko, so you too can plan your weekend escape! The Shinkyo Bridge you see today was constructed in 1636, but a bridge of some form has stood on this very same spot for much longer...even if its origins are a bit unclear. Nikko is home to numerous Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples. We focused our visit on the Toshogu Shrine. Now for a quick history lesson; the Toshogu shrine is the final resting place of Tokugawa Ieyasu, the founder of the Tokugawa shogunate. This was Japan’s last feudal military government, with the shogun as its leader. Kegon is Nikko’s most famous waterfall. It stands almost 100 meters tall and the waters that feed it comes directly from Lake Chuzenji. We were feeling pretty hungry after all that sightseeing, so we decided to find a restaurant serving up the local specialty: yuba! Or tofu skin. I ordered the ramen with yuba and Sam got the udon with yuba. The tofu skin was fluffy and absorbed all the flavours of the miso. Lake Chuzenji is located at the foot of Mount Nantai. We cruised around the lake for a bit, but then got off at one of the early stops to continue onwards to Yumoto Onsen. Yumoto is a small hot springs town that is located in part of Nikko National Park. We then enjoyed a little walk along Lake Yunoko, before hopping back on a bus to Senjougahara Moor. The Senjogahara Marshland covers the area between Lake Chuzenji and Yumoto Onsen. It offers some great hiking opportunities within Nikko National Park. And that’s a wrap for our Nikko travel guide! This proved to be the perfect weekend escape from Tokyo. We visited everything you see here over the course of 2 days, but this place is even better if you can come for 3 or 4 nights. Nature abounds, there are countless shrines and temples to visit, plus the local cuisine was exquisite! Now you have a few ideas of things to do around Nikko when you visit. Wishing you happy travels and see you next time! This is part of our Travel in Japan video series showcasing Japanese food, Japanese culture and Japanese cuisine. Ask This Old House plumbing and heating expert Richard Trethewey travels to Los Angeles to update a water filter to preserve the look of a retro faucet. SUBSCRIBE to This Old House: http://bit.ly/SubscribeThisOldHouse Time: 1 hour Cost: $250 Skill Level: Beginner Tools List for Installing a Water Filter: Wrench [https://amzn.to/2GU675A] Bucket [https://amzn.to/2UTm8fM] Shopping List: Water filtration system Steps: 1. Start by shutting off the cold water line underneath the kitchen sink. The cold should always be to the right. 2. Open the faucet to release any cold water that’s in the line upstream of the shutoff valve. 3. Place a small bucket or tray underneath the cold water line underneath the sink to catch any extra water that might fall out. Then, break the water connection using a wrench. 4. Connect the adapter that comes with the kit to the hose. 5. Push the black tubing that also comes with the kit into the adapter on one end and the filter on the other. The back of the filter has images that indicate which pipe should receive which tube. 6. Connect the second adapter to the water shutoff valve. Push the black tubing that came from the filter to the shutoff. 7. Turn the water back on. 8. Run the sink for 5-10 minute increments according to the instructions that come with the kit to activate the carbon and fully filter the water. Resources: Richard installed the Advanced Water Filtration System, which is manufactured by Kube (https://amzn.to/2V9S7xg). It comes with a kit of adapters and connectors so that it’s easy to connect it with whatever pipes you have underneath your sink. The only other tool required for installation is a wrench, which can be found at any home center. The retro faucet the homeowner had in her kitchen is called the Dishmaster M76 Imperial Four (https://amzn.to/2DJ0S6T), which can still be found on the manufacturer’s website and on some third party sites. In this video, we tour the incredible 28sqm (301sqft) apartment of architect Douglas Wan. The Melbourne apartment was originally constructed in the 1950 s as housing for nurses. It’s now been completely reimagined for modern times and transformed into a clever small studio. Become a Living Big Patron and help us to create more videos: https://www.patreon.com/livingbig For Douglas, this was an opportunity to develop a small living space that would perfectly fit his needs and lifestyle. Attracted to simple living and a self described monastic lifestyle, he wanted to create a place where he could be a part of the city, yet also retreat from it. He ventured to carry out an architectural experiment and find out what was possible in his own small home. Read More: http://www.livingbiginatinyhouse.com/micro-studio-apartment/ The result is a micro apartment which is as clever as it is simple. One which utilises the entire space, while remaining open and light. It’s rustic history is celebrated, yet also contrasted with the modern elements. Most importantly, it’s a wonderful home. Designer Olivia Botrie of Dart Studio shows how to update a trad home for modern living. She completely overhauled this dark and dated space, breathing new life into every room. See how the front entrance got a much-needed overhaul with a fresh coat of white paint, refinished stairs and a quaint bench. The dining room’s dramatic transformation will also leave you in awe (and inspire you to add color to your ceiling). Plus, you’ll adore the charming vintage details, like the original wooden fireplace mantel and the homeowner’s antique secretary.
