Check out all the places seen in this video: https://www.touropia.com/best-places-to-visit-in-sri-lanka/ Sri Lanka may be a small island in the Indian Ocean but thatโs the only thing small about it. The country, formerly known as Ceylon, boasts an ancient civilization, golden sandy beaches with their swaying coconut palms, mountains, and tea plantations. While visiting the island, youโll see colonial architecture from the days when the Portuguese, Dutch and English ruled. Youโll also see lots of elephants, some of which participate in local festivals and, if youโre lucky, perhaps a leopard or two at a wildlife sanctuary. Hereโs a look at the best places to visit in Sri Lanka:
Thereโs a reason no one has gone for a dip in New York Cityโs Newtown Creek in recent history. In Christopher Swainโs words, itโs like โswimming through a dirty diaper garnished with oil, gasoline and trash.โ Heโs a clean water activist who has swum over 3,000 miles in 25 different contaminated waterways across North America as a means of advocating for their cleanup. Taking a dip in these waterways does not come without its risks. Despite the precautions Christopher takesโwearing a puncture-resistant drysuit, goggles, ear plugs, etc.โhe still gets sick from the various contaminants. Itโs the hazards that come along with the cause, but Christopher continues to swim, all out of love for the water. To celebrate 1M on YouTube, I invited a subscriber to join me on a trip to Kuala Lumpur Malaysia. Not to get too deep on this but this was a super cool experience for me. In just 3 days, we went from strangers to really good friends. We shared so many hilarious moments off camera and I legitimately left this trip believing this wouldnโt be the last time we traveled. Social media is a weird place where it s always about "growing" your following and itโs easy to see everything as numbers. This trip was a powerful reminder that behind every subscriber, is a person. I know things have grown around here and sometimes you might think your comments go unnoticed but they really donโt. I read almost all the comments and feedback and I appreciate every bit of it. I am truly grateful for you and canโt wait to share more travels with you. โSo many countries, so many customs.โ Any jet-setter will agree this good old proverb is true. In the age of globalization, going places has become an essential part of our life. Weโre all well aware of the fact that while visiting a foreign country, we must obey certain local traditions and common rules. What would you do if you walked into a bathroom and instead of toilet paper, you found a bowl of water? And no instructions either! Or, what if warding off bad luck meant talking to birds at the park? Sure, these things may seem wacky to you, but theyโre pretty normal customs in other countries. And some actually sound pretty fun! But in Scandinavia Austria, and Bavaria, Germany, finger pulling (or Fingerhakeln) is a competitive sport! - If youโre going on vacation and want to leave with as many good vibes as possible, sit down with your household first before you head out the door. In Russia, they believe that doing this ensures you have a good trip and wards off bad luck. - In Denmark, if itโs your 25th birthday or higher and youโre still single, your friends and family throw handfuls of cinnamon at you. - If you were to spit at your boss or a family member when you greeted them, itโd be considered pretty darn rude. But in the Maasai tribe in Kenya and northern Tanzania, spitting into their hands before a handshake is considered appropriate and respectful. - You might gift newlyweds with some sparkling new china, but in Germany, family and friends actually break dishes the night before a wedding! - In Venezuela, the early bird doesnโt necessarily get the worm. There, running late isnโt a problem the way it is in the US and other countries. When it comes to parties or even work meetings, arriving a few minutes late isnโt considered rude. - In South Africa, the tradition of chucking chairs, tables, and whatever furniture out the window onto the street for the New Year has been going strong since the end of apartheid. - Even if youโre naturally a leftie, using this hand is considered pretty rude in a lot of Middle Eastern countries. This is because the left hand is the designated โcleaning handโ in the bathroom and, therefore, itโs the dirty one. - f your biggest fear is doing your business in a restroom thatโs run out of toilet paper, wellโฆyou might have some problems when visiting India. Thatโs because in most parts of this country, instead of toilet paper, people use water to cleanse their, uh, private areas. - In Thailand, there are tons of stray monkeys hanging around. And once a year in Lopburi, Bangkok, people dump over 6,600 pounds (3,000 kg) of fruits and veggies out for the little guys to munch on in whatโs referred to as the Monkey Buffet Festival. - While we consider it bad luck to see the bride before the big day, people in Tidong, Indonesia believe using the toilet 3 days after the wedding is bad luck. - Americans are used to having copious amounts of ice in their drinks. But in many places in Europe, having little or no ice at all is the norm. - If you ever visit Fiji, youโll likely be greeted by a cocktail containing juice from squeezed roots served in a wooden bowl known as Kava. And apparently, it has, shall we say โpsychoactive effects.โ Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our Social Media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/brightside/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/brightgram/ 5-Minute Crafts Youtube: https://www.goo.gl/8JVmuC Photos: https://www.depositphotos.com East News ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For more videos and articles visit: http://www.brightside.me/

Here is a riddle for you: red jackets, unsmiling faces, and huge black furry hats. Who are they? The University of Houston Marching Band? Well yeah but, Iโm talking about those other guys! Those are the Queen s guards in London, the capital city of the UK! These easily recognizable and regularly photographed guys may always be in the limelight, but there are some curious things about them you definitely didn t know! For example, if an absent-minded tourist doesn t stay out of their way, the guards have all the rights to knock them over. So, watch out! Or have you ever thought why the hat strap is below the guard s nose? The thing is that the hat is so heavy that if it s struck or shot in combat, it would easily break the soldier s neck if the strap was positioned under the chin. ๐ฑ Other videos you might like: 13 Unbelievable Coincidences That Will Leave You Confused https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lz9OSmVuNHw& 16 FAMOUS LOGOS WITH A HIDDEN MEANING (That We Never Even Noticed) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKc271fj2ok& 15 Examples of Japanese Etiquette That Will Drive You Crazy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SR-H7yr9Ceo& TIMESTAMPS: Can they speak? 0:33 They have to faint according to protocol 0:59 They can t have a bathroom trip 1:38 No nose picking, no scratching an itch 2:00 When do they wear long grey coats? 2:34 They can t smile 3:18 Why they hate hot weather 3:58 How much their bearskin hats weight 4:28 How to become one of the Queen s guard 5:27 Why their jackets are red 6:07 Do they have fun? 6:37 #royalfamily #royalguard #queen Preview photo credit: LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM - NOVEMBER 24, 2018: Royal Guard at Tower of London. Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ SUMMARY: - It s a fact that no-one is allowed to touch the guards or threaten them. But itโs a widespread myth that they can t speak no matter what. - Even when a guard faints, he has to do it in a particular way. As soon as he feels dizzy, he must remain at attention and keep this position even when he falls, most often ending up face down. - Royal guards have strict instructions to do their necessities right on the spot. Luckily, their heavy woolen trousers are black enough to cover their embarrassment. - Since staying still for too long is bad for their health, every 10 minutes the guards leave their spot, turn, march several paces, then turn around, and go back to their place to stand still for the next 10 minutes. - The Queen s guards wear red jackets in spring and summer and long grey coats during the fall and winter months. The coats are long and warm enough to allow the soldiers to stay motionless for a long time. - If a superior notices a guard stretching his lips in a smile, the guard will face a fine of up to a week s pay! In most cases, the overly cheerful guard should be ready to part with about $260. - It turns out that when the drill boots stay in direct sunlight for too long, the polish on them starts to melt. It means that every time after their shift, the guards have to re-polish their footwear. - Hats made from the real fur are impressively heavy: one can weigh from 4.5 to 9 lb (2 to 4 kg). And when it rains or snows, the Bearskin collects all the liquid and gets even heavier! - To become one of the Queen s guard, you have to take the BARB, which stands for the British Army Recruit Battery test. It s a half-an-hour-long computer-based test which checks your problem solving, analytical, and logical skills. - The red color was chosen because the red pigment was one of the most available at those times. Also, this color needed only one stage in the process of dyeing. - If youโre lucky enough, you can hear them perform the Imperial March from Star Wars or even Indiana Jones and Game of Thrones theme songs! Check out all the places seen in this video: https://www.touropia.com/best-places-to-visit-in-russia/ Russia, once the largest and most powerful member of the former USSR, remains a fascinating country to visit. It is a country of contrasts, from great subtropical beaches to bitterly cold winter regions in the north. The east may have fewer people, but its lovely cities are among the most interesting in Russia and can hold their own against the west. Russia is steeped in history everywhere a traveler goes, from vicious battles to great classical music and literature. Hereโs a look at the best places to visit in Russia:
My hypothesis is that the algorithm, rather than viewer preference, drives views on the site. As the algorithm shifts, various YouTubers experience burnout (as what used to work no longer works) and right now click-through rate is the key metric. So clickable titles and thumbnails are the only way to get a lot of impressions and hence views - they are the only way to go viral. This leads me to wonder which audiences will become most prevalent on the site and if there will even be a place for educational content. In the long-term, hopefully YouTube is able to measure satisfaction through surveys and other metrics to ensure an optimal experience for everyone on the site. You may have noticed that the internet is terrible at religious discourse. Well, this is not a new phenomenon. In the early 16th century, the Roman Catholic church dominated Christianity in Europe, and the institution was starting to show some cracks. Tensions mounted and protests grew, and eventually, the Protestant Reformation happened. Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses to the church door in Wittenberg, but the Reformation doesn t exactly begin with Luther, and it certainly doesn t end with him. Today, we re looking at how and why the Catholic church in Europe split, first into two sects, and eventually into a LOT of sects. #crashcourse #europeanhistory #history Sources: Hunt, Lynn et al. Join us for another Japan travel vlog as we head from Takayama to Kyoto by bus. After a torrential downpour in Takayama for days on end buses and trains had been canceled for days. It appeared our bus was going to be canceled as well so we prepared to stay an extra night in Takayama. Fortunately, for us, the highways had been inspected thoroughly - after the heavy rains - and we were given the green light to head to Kyoto. For dinner on the bus, I quickly grabbed sushi with salmon, chips, snickers and mango snacks from Family Mart. The bus journey itself was the most scenic we ve been on in Japan. We passed through quaint villages, meandered through mountain tunnels and gasped at the lakes, rivers and forests we saw along the way. At one of the rest stops, we saw the biggest collection of Japanese vending machines in one area selling coffee. As we continued the journey the landscape turned from mountains to farmland with bigger cities along the way. I ended up grabbing more sushi which ended up being really disappointing. We ended up arriving in Kyoto earlier than we had anticipated at 9:15 pm. After trying to figure out local transportation, we gave up too exhausted and confused and decided to just leg it to our apartment. It ended up being a longer walk than we had anticipated so by the time we arrived at our apartment in Kyoto we just went straight to bed. We pick things up in the morning for breakfast at Komika s Coffee serving contemporary Japanese breakfast serving Danish pastry with soft serve ice cream. I got toast with red Azuki beans with an iced coffee. Our apartment in Kyoto was small but tidy with a kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and tiny dining area. The price for the bus tickets was $40 USD per from Takayama to Kyoto. Our most recent trip was to Japan where we spent 2 months traveling around the country and visiting the following destinations: Osaka, Tokyo, Kyoto, Nara, Nikko, Takayama, Yokohama, Odaiba, Shirakawa-gล and Takao. During our stay, we visited a mixture of big cities and small rural towns, where we enjoyed eating Japanese street food, trying traditional Japanese cuisine, visiting local attractions and staying in unique accommodations (such as capsule hotels and ryokans) that we are now going to share with you on this channel. The combination and contrast of visiting futuristic cities and traditional countryside areas is what makes travel to Japan so fascinating. Ultra modern versus traditional. This is the essence of Japan. Our trip to Japan was unforgettable and until now it is one of our favorite countries that we have come to know. However, we only feel as though we just scratched the surface on this trip to Japan. If you want to see more videos from Japan in the future, let us know in the comments that places you d like us to travel to and food experiences you would like to see on this travel channel. Have you traveled to Japan before? What was your experience like? Please share your Japan travel tips, advice and experiences in the comments below. Thanks again for watching our Japan series! Until next time! * * * * * * * * * * If you re new to our channel or this Japan series please check out the following playlists to get caught up on all of our videos: All of our Japan travel + food videos: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-NQ0KYodq5Otdk6epiTqGIoK42-oIgAf Japanese food videos (only): https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-NQ0KYodq5OXyj4OJUydOV2VS-6sd0mC ********* This is part of our Travel in Japan video series showcasing Japanese food, Japanese culture and Japanese cuisine. * * * * * * * * * * Music We Use: http://bit.ly/SamAudreyMusic
