Every time we buy goods and services we have to decide what price we are ready to pay for them. When the price depends on the quality, it is easy to make the choice. But if you have to choose between a budget version you are used to and some costly novelty, that’s when you have a dilemma trying to decide whether you should overpay or not. Everything you buy has a price and a value. Sometimes spending more money than you think you should at first, can save you some serious cash in the long run. Here’s a list of items that are evidence of how that rule works in real life. These things will improve the level of your life and pay off their cost quickly. It’ll pay for itself within 3 years. - A foodsaver, which many would consider an extra, works by sucking the air out of a plastic bag or container, keeping the food fresher for longer. - Food is cooked faster on induction stoves, so the consumption of energy decreases. - Even considering the cost of tire fitting services, seasonal tires will cost you less than universal ones because all-season tires have a lower wear resistance. - If you visit the gym regularly, and your membership costs a lot, you might consider taking the gym home. - Good restorative sleep makes you more productive, and a mattress that doesn’t kill your back will save you a lot of money in doctor visits later. - A filtered bottle will cost you about $40, and there are also cartridge refill costs, but it should all be paid off in half a year. - The price of an LED bulb is about 8 times higher than a normal incandescent bulb. But at the same time, an LED bulb consumes 10 times less electricity. - Once you get a blade sharpener, you won’t need to toss away your razors when they get slightly dull. In fact, you’ll be able to use one blade for up to six months! - If you’re using a device that has a lot of accessories, for example, a desktop computer that has a monitor, speakers, printer, and so on connected to it, “smart” power strips will help you save on the electricity bill. - An energy-saving coating helps reducing heat transfer through the glass by 75-90% depending on the type of coating. We are collectively obsessed with the idea that an attractive person is, first and foremost, someone who looks terrific. But that s to ignore the widespread phenomenon of the objectively good looking individual who nevertheless fails to hold much appeal - and vice versa. The leading suggestion takes its starting point from the biological sciences: we learn that sex aims at successful reproduction and genetic fitness in the coming generation. Come join us for an epic Canada Road Trip as we hop in a vehicle with Togo and Audrey s parents traveling out east to visit the Maritimes Provinces. After a highly successful road trip in Canada last fall to visit British Columbia and Alberta to see the Canadian Rockies, we decided to reunite the travel squad of Audrey s Mom and Dad and Togo the German Shepherd to see Atlantic Canada. The first day we packed all of our suitcases in the rental vehicle, a spacious Ford Flex, pulling out of Brampton, Ontario early in the morning. The first day we drove a bit further than Montreal crossing provinces from Ontario to Quebec. We made time to visit Audrey s Uncle who lives in Montreal before arriving in our cabin for the evening. Unfortunately, the mosquitos were so bad that we spent our initial moments swatting them as opposed to relaxing. After getting rid of most of them we cracked upon a bottle of wine to celebrate the first day of driving on this road trip. It was a busy day since we had to bypass the two biggest cities in Canada (Toronto and Montreal) and traffic at times was hectic. The second day involved a little bit less driving as we headed towards the maritime provinces of New Brunswick. Once we bypassed Quebec City the highways really cleared and sections were almost bare. We noticed as we crossed into New Brunswick that we could see more forests, mountains and signs warning us about Moose crossings. One of the highlights was stopping in Hartland to visit the longest covered bridge in the world. Upon arriving in Fredericton it felt like coming home since my Mom and Dad live there. This is just the start of our road trip in Canada as we plan to visit New Brunswick, Cape Breton (Nova Scotia) and Prince Edward Island covering all of the Maritimes. We hope you ll join us for the next episode from New Brunswick! Ever been stuck in an airport, parched and hungry? You ve already spent a fortune on tickets and baggage fees, and somehow you end up buying a giant Toblerone and a $5 water. You re not alone. Spending in airports hit $40 billion in 2017. On average, travelers will spend anywhere from $11 and $140 per airport visit. But all that spending is not entirely your fault. A concrete island with tumble-down houses and not a single tree or plant around. The gloomiest place on Earth you’ve ever seen, for sure. Can it be real? In fact, it is. Welcome to Hashima! This island 9 miles from Nagasaki is one of many hundreds of uninhabited islands in the prefecture. Unlike others, which are green and covered with forests, Hashima looks like bare rocks with no plants on them. If you look closer you’ll see that the rocks are actually empty high-risers standing on manmade coastal banks. SUMMARY: - For many centuries, people living on Takashima – a big island not far from Hashima, gathered coal, which lay close to the surface. - In 18-19th centuries Takashima island was part of feudal lands belonging to the Fukahori family. They saw the profit that coal mining started to bring and took control of all the bargains in their own hands. - Takashima coal had a high quality and soon filled the treasury of Nagasaki with foreign currency. - At the end of the 19th century they sold the island to Mitsubishi, which was a shipping enterprise then. The new owner built dwelling houses for workers. - Hashima produced about 150.000 tons of coal each year, and its population in 1916 was 3000 people. - In 1959 the population of Hashima was over 5,200. The total square of the island is 6.3 ha, and 60% of it are rocky slopes where most of the dwelling houses are built. - Between residential houses, there were squeezed a primary school, a secondary school, a playground, a gym, a cinema, bars, restaurants, 25 different stores, and a Buddhist church. - Hashima citizens had no umbrellas, as the mazes of corridors and stairs connected all the dwelling houses and served as a transport system. - Housing, electricity and water were free for workers, but all the residents had to take part in public works and clean-up of the territory. - The most remarkable trait of this place was a total absence of the ground and plants. Hashima was nothing more but coal ash, laid around a bare rock. - At the end of the 1960-s Japanese economy skyrocketed, and coal was admitted an ecologically dirty fuel. - The government started shutting down coalmines around the country, and Hashima wasn’t an exclusion. - Mitsubishi reduced staff on Hashima, retrained workers and sent them to other subsidiaries. - By 1974 there were about 2000 people left on the island, and on January 15, 1974 the company officially announced the closure of the mine. - Hashima now is an abandoned and forgotten island, which looks as a strange lighthouse guarding the entrance to Nagasaki bay. - In September 2008 Hashima (Gunkanjima) island was included in the list to get the status of UNESCO world heritage as a monument to a whole period of Japanese history. She’s awesome. I absolutely love what she’s done on YouTube to bring awareness to living with disability, and turning it into ability. And her guide dog Gallop is awesome too! When Molly and I first met, we started talking about how she navigates the world, because I’m a nerd and I always steer the conversation toward science. I was not prepared for what she told me. She said she uses echolocation! Molly’s brain has adapted to listen to sounds in her environment in ways that most of us sighted people can’t even imagine. I went to meet her in LA and brought a special surprise, to see if my brain could learn what hers has. #echolocation #blind For audio descriptions, go to Settings - Audio Track - English Descriptive. The Mars Helicopter, Ingenuity aims to make the first powered flight on another planet when it takes off on Mars. It has now landed and safely checked in with the rover. It should detach and fly within the first 30-60 days of the mission. I learned a lot getting to visit the drone right before it was mounted on the rover at NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena. How do you fly in 1% of Earth s atmosphere: Have large rotors (they are 1.2m in diameter) and spin them very fast, around 2500 RPM (5x the speed of a helicopter on Earth). Plus the aircraft has to be light: The Mars helicopter weighs in at 1.8kg or around the same as a laptop. Every piece had to be stripped down for weight. Instead of using aerogel for insulation, the craft makes use of CO2 gaps between components. Even aerogel was too heavy! One of the major challenges is surviving the Martian night: Temperatures plunge to -80C to -100C so two thirds of the craft s power is actually used to keep its electronics warm. Only one third is used for flying. The estimated flight time is 90 seconds. The craft can t be driven remotely, it will have to fly autonomously, using its own sensor suite to determine how to fly. The round trip 20 minute delay with Earth means steering the craft from mission control would be impossible. Try it risk free ➡️ https://faredrop.app/ytd_190810 ⬅️ Best Venice day trip! We decided to drive to the Dolomites for a day in the mountains of Italy since we had never been before. It turned into a huge adventure for multiple reasons. If you go, don t bring only 1 bottle of water for 4 people, maybe don t take the sketchy trail we took at the end, andddd don t leave any valuables at the very top ;) Travel vlog 646 | Dolomites, Italy | Country #91/100 | Filmed July 2019 Music in this episode: “Beautiful Venice” “Detergent” “The End Of Summer” “Hadouken” “Between Four Eyes” **All from Epidemic Sound. We started “travel hacking” & finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. After 2 years of saving $ and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this YouTube channel to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling! So we extended our 1 year trip to now FOUR years :) Now we have a goal of traveling to 100 countries before 2020! We are incredibly thankful to do something we love every day. :)

The Hussaini hanging bridge in Hunza Valley Pakistan is known as one of the most dangerous in the world. In this travel vlog, we walk across it (carefully) and talk to some local Pakistani people along the way. In the small town of Passu Cones, in the Gojal region of Northern Pakistan lies a suspension bridge unlike any other. Built by local farmers, the purpose of the bridge over the Hunza river is to keep their livestock away from their crops. I m not sure if it s by design that this bridge has more empty space than wood, but it takes some serious nerves to walk across it. No safety harnesses, no guidance. It s become a bit of a tourist attraction for people traveling through the Hunza valley in Gilgit Baltistan. It s a suspension bridge attached by cables bolted into the towering mountains on either side. It s a adventure I recommend to everyone, just watch your step. Pakistan tourism is on the rise. It s often called a dangerous place to travel. Our purpose was to spend our time, as foreigners in Pakistan to disprove this, and show the beauty of the people and the landscape to the world. CPIC Global sponsored out trip, but we did so without any security or military escorts. The only trouble we got into was bumpy roads. While normally I solo travel, I was excited to have so many friends on the trip.
