Before starting the project, call the local utility locating service and have them mark out any potential underground utilities that could get in the way of the dry well. 2. Lay out the PVC pipe and determine the location for the dry well. The solid pipe will go closest to the house, and the perforated pipe will go closest to the dry well. 3. Use the shovel to cut into the soil just underneath the grass and move the top layer to a tarp. That way, the grass can be put back in place once the trench is dug. 4. Next, dig a trench to accommodate the PVC pipe that’s roughly 8-10 inch deep. As the trench gets closer to the dry well, make the trench slightly deeper and slightly wider to ensure no water leeches back towards the house. 5. Now start digging the hole for the dry well. It should be about 4 foot in diameter and 3 foot deep. 6. Cover the bottom of the dry well with a few layers of landscape fabric until the hole is completely covered. 7. Use the remaining landscape fabric to line the trench. It only needs to go as far as the perforated pipe. 8. Pour the crushed stone into the hole one wheelbarrow-full at a time. Between each pour, tamp down the crushed stone with a hand tamper. Repeat this process until the hole is filled to the level of the trench. 9. Put a thin layer of crushed stone in the trench. 10. Connect the PVC pipes using the couplings and the PVC glue. Use the elbow to connect a vertical piece to catch the rainwater from the gutter. Once it dries, place the pipe in the trench. 11. Fill the rest of the trench and the hole with the remaining crushed stone, leaving just enough room at the top for the layer of grass. 12. Fold over the landscape fabric to cover the crushed stone. 13. Backfill the hole and the trench with the grass. Resources: Installing a simple dry well requires few tools and materials. Mark lined the trench with landscape fabric, which can be found at any home center. He then filled the trench and the hole with crushed stone, which can be found at masonry supply stores and some home centers. The pipe he installed was two sections of solid PVC pipe and one section of 4 inch perforated PVC pipe. The pipe and the PVC glue required to secure the connections, are found at home centers. When installing a dry well in a small yard with little space for leeching, Mark also suggests installing a plastic basin [https://amzn.to/2p2KU32] in the hole to allow for more controlled drainage. The yard in the video was massive and slightly sloped downhill away from the house, so the plastic basin wasn’t necessary. We came back to Feria Masticar for the last day of the food festival to continue trying Argentinian dishes! We scouted out the food stands and tried a mixture of seafood dishes, meat dishes, pasta dishes and lots of desserts. It was wonderful! We are Samuel and Audrey, a travel vlogging couple from Canada. In this travel channel we share our travel and food vlogs while touring the world. We had the privilege of traveling around Argentina for nearly 3 months from January- April 2019 on a trip covering a large section of the country. We kicked things off with several days in Buenos Aires where we were joined by Audrey s parents eating and sightseeing around some of our favourite neighbourhoods in the city. We then flew from Buenos Aires to Cordoba where we spent a couple of weeks in the Sierras of Cordoba visiting both La Cumbrecita and Villa General Belgrano with highlights including hiking and delicious German and Swiss cuisine. From Cordoba, we then travelled a considerable distance on an overnight bus to Mar Del Plata just in time for a special food festival called Feria Masticar featuring the best of Argentine food and wine. We spent several days enjoying beaches and seafood before heading south to Patagonia to visit the province of Chubut. While on the Atlantic side of Chubut we visited Puerto Madryn, Peninsula Valdes, Trelew, Gaiman and Dolavon. To summarize our time in this area, we had incredibly close encounters with wildlife including penguins, sea lions and guanacos while also experiencing Welsh culture in Argentina. Our time in Patagonia continued as we headed from east to west trading more barren landscapes for thick forests, impressive mountains and magnificent lakes. We spent significant time in both Esquel and El Bolson with day trips to visit Trevelin, Parque Nacional Los Alerces, Cholila and Lago Puelo. Highlights included sailing, hiking, riding vintage trains and partaking in the national asado festival. We finished visiting Patagonia with time spent in Villa La Angostura, San Martin De Los Andes and Bariloche where we enjoyed more stunning scenery and hiking. On our way back to Buenos Aires, we took the Tren Patagonia to Las Grutas before meeting up with Audrey s dad again. To finish off our trip in Argentina, we spent more time in the capital and later Mendoza where we got to experience wine tourism to its fullest extent. Overall, we had an amazing time travelling around Argentina having only scratched the surface of this vast and diverse country. But the speed heavily depends on the weight of your boat, the severity of wind and waves, and how well-prepared you are. - If you have a sailboat, remove all the sails as soon as you realize you can’t escape the storm. - When you’re in control, the sails have been folded, and the sea anchor has been deployed, position your boat at 15 degrees to the approaching waves and wind. - Tell everyone on board to hide in the cabin or inside the holds, if there are any. - Any object that can be moved, both on the deck and in the cabin and holds, should be fastened and secured. - Make sure you’re as visible as possible. Turn on the lights and sound your horn at regular intervals. - If you realize that things are not going well for you, turn on your radio transmitter and send out a call for help. - Now that you’re in real trouble, you should wait for help and make sure everyone on board is safe. - So your boat has capsized, and you had to jump into the water to save your life. First make sure that everyone has done the same and do the head count. - When you’re done repairing the boat and helping your passengers if needed, go to the shore, but do it carefully. But upon closer consideration there are a lot of reasons methods developed for paper folding are also applicable to engineering: origami allows you to take a flat sheet of material and convert it to almost any shape only by folding. Plus for large flat structures, origami provides a way of shrinking dimensions while ensuring simply deployment - this is particularly useful for solar arrays in space applications.
