For all those tiny house loving gamers out there, this is definitely a home that will make you swoon! There are lots of reasons why people choose to live in tiny homes. One of the biggest advantages though is that it reduces over-head expenses and allows people to follow their passions in life. Today we re exploring Patagonia by boat - namely Lake Lacar which is a lake of glacial origins! Lake Lacar is a popular boat excursion from the town of San Martin de los Andes, which sits on Lake Lacar s northeastern shores. This lake is tucked into the Andes mountain ranges and it stretches 25 kilometres in length. On this boat tour, we cruised Lake Lacar making stops at Quila Quina Beach, where we grabbed lunch and strolled along the beach; we hiked to the Chachin Waterfall, which can be reached by a dirt trail through the Valdivian forest; we visited Hua Hum, where we enjoyed some cakes and pastries; and lastly, we visited a small chapel on the island of Santa Teresita. This boat trip of Lake Lacar was a really nice way to experience a slice of Patagonia by boat. This right here is Patagonia s Lake District, so as you can imagine, there are countless lakes to explore. When it comes to things to do in Patagonia definitely consider a Glacial Lake Lacar tour departing from San Martín de los Andes. We are Samuel and Audrey, a travel vlogging couple from Canada. In this travel channel we share our travel and food vlogs while touring the world. We had the privilege of traveling around Argentina for nearly 3 months from January- April 2019 on a trip covering a large section of the country. We kicked things off with several days in Buenos Aires where we were joined by Audrey s parents eating and sightseeing around some of our favourite neighbourhoods in the city. We then flew from Buenos Aires to Cordoba where we spent a couple of weeks in the Sierras of Cordoba visiting both La Cumbrecita and Villa General Belgrano with highlights including hiking and delicious German and Swiss cuisine. From Cordoba, we then travelled a considerable distance on an overnight bus to Mar Del Plata just in time for a special food festival called Feria Masticar featuring the best of Argentine food and wine. We spent several days enjoying beaches and seafood before heading south to Patagonia to visit the province of Chubut. While on the Atlantic side of Chubut we visited Puerto Madryn, Peninsula Valdes, Trelew, Gaiman and Dolavon. To summarize our time in this area, we had incredibly close encounters with wildlife including penguins, sea lions and guanacos while also experiencing Welsh culture in Argentina. Our time in Patagonia continued as we headed from east to west trading more barren landscapes for thick forests, impressive mountains and magnificent lakes. We spent significant time in both Esquel and El Bolson with day trips to visit Trevelin, Parque Nacional Los Alerces, Cholila and Lago Puelo. Highlights included sailing, hiking, riding vintage trains and partaking in the national asado festival. We finished visiting Patagonia with time spent in Villa La Angostura, San Martin De Los Andes and Bariloche where we enjoyed more stunning scenery and hiking. On our way back to Buenos Aires, we took the Tren Patagonia to Las Grutas before meeting up with Audrey s dad again. To finish off our trip in Argentina, we spent more time in the capital and later Mendoza where we got to experience wine tourism to its fullest extent. Overall, we had an amazing time travelling around Argentina having only scratched the surface of this vast and diverse country. 🇨🇺 Whilst travelling through Cuba we saw a malnourished kitten walk under a speeding truck. Somehow it survived and so we adopted the kitten and named him Fidel. For the next two weeks we travelled together across the country with the kitten and despite the food shortages in shops where even milk was hard to find, we nursed him back to strength. But then the holiday was over and we had to fly home to Europe. But what about our little cat who had been our constant companion? Leave him alone on the streets again? That’s too far for most animals to travel. - Hawaiians are incredibly vigilant about keeping out any snakes who try to visit. Local authorities work hard to capture the ones that’ve somehow made their way into the state. - Take Guam as an example – invasive snakes devasted the bird population, eating up as many as 10 of the 12 known avian species there. - But sometimes the person who brought the snake isn’t a criminal – it can happen by accident. - There is an amnesty program that lets you turn in any snakes you happen to possess and with no penalty! - In 2018, the state’s Department of Agriculture invited 4 brown tree snakes to come and live in Hawaii. - These snakes are working hand in hand or … well … together with the DoA in a big game of “Hide and Seek.” By hiding and waiting, they help train dogs to sniff them out. - Also, there’s one snake that’s so common, your chances of seeing him are pretty high. These guys are so tiny that most people mistake them for worms! - They’re almost blind, but they can recognize light. Also, they’re not venomous, so no danger here! SUMMARY: - Why doesn’t Iceland have railroads? There are three reasons: the harsh climate, the small population, and their love of cars, which are the number one means of transportation in the country. - If you look at a map of Bhutan, you ll see mostly mountains and hills. Building railways here would mean digging tunnels and constructing high bridges. That s one super-expensive project. - Andorra and Bhutan have one thing in common – mountainous terrain. That s why there aren t, and never have been, railways here. In 2004, there was a plan to build an elevated cable metro system called Metro Aeri’, but it was never brought to life. - Libya is one of the countries on the list that used to have a railway network, but is now train-free. The first 250 miles of railways were built here by the Kingdom of Italy back in the early 1900s. By 1965, the lines had been taken to pieces. - If you ever visit Cyprus, make sure to stop by at the Railway Museum in the village of Evrychou. You’ll see models of the stations, wagons, photos and other things that prove railways did exist here, but are now just history. - Now, public buses in Malta are pretty crowded and the roads are busy, so a railway probably wouldn t hurt. The only thing is that building trains above the ground would create too much noise pollution, and Malta is densely populated, with one town flowing into the other. - Unlike many countries on the list where building a railway system would be simply too expensive, Kuwait doesn t seem to have the money problem. - One of the smallest countries in South America, Suriname, has an interesting history when it comes to railways. At the beginning of the 20th century, a single-track meter gauge rail-line called Lawa Railway was supposed to be built to make the goldfields more reachable. - The US has the longest total amount of rails – over 150,000 miles of tracks. - China is number two in the world when it comes to railroad tracks. It has over 80,000 miles. - Russia, the world s largest country, comes third in railroad length, and its tracks run for over 50,000 miles. Today we re taking you on a tour of the Seven Lakes in Argentina s Lake District! Many consider it to be the most beautiful route in all of Patagonia! The Route of the Seven Lakes is a section of highway along Route 40 between the towns of San Martin de los Andes and Villa La Angostura. It crosses two national parks, Lanín and Nahuel Huapi, and along the way, you get to witness vast forests, snowcapped mountains, and of course, the seven lakes! It’s a full day excursion and aside from the lakes, we also made stops at scenic lookouts, a waterfall, and the town of Villa La Angostura where we had some free time to explore, but more on that later. The fog started to lift about mid-morning and we were finally able to see the mountain ranges and forest all around us. As we drove along route 40, our guide shared some fun facts about the places we were visiting, and also made sure to teach us about the local flora and fauna. We also had plenty of time to snap photos at each stop. Our next stop was at a guesthouse and camping spot, which is located on the shores of Correntoso Lake. Here we encountered a little farm with ducks, geese, cats, and dogs - I was more than happy! They also had coffee and salty doughnuts for sale, so I got a little mid-morning snack. Lake Espejo really lives up to its name with its mirror-like waters. This was the calmest of the lakes we visited that day, and we could see the clouds, trees and mountains all reflected in the water. It was a thing of beauty! We then drove to the town of Villa La Angostura, where we had been a few days prior, this time making a stop in Puerto Manzano. We had some free time to walk around the port and snap some photos. This location is slightly outside of the town and not as easy to reach on foot, but it has lots of hotel, cottages and beautiful beaches, so I’m glad we got to see it. We also had free time to visit the two bays: Bahia Mansa and Bahia Brava, and then it was finally lunchtime! We certainly could have tried a new restaurant, but if you’ve been following our videos, you know that we became slightly obsessed with the food at El Esquiador during our stay in this town. I think this was our fifth time eating there in the span of a week! Suffice it to say, it was delicious! But you already knew that. After lunch, we met up with the rest of the group and started the drive back to San Martin de los Andes. You guys know me, of course, I instantly fell asleep the minute I got on the bus, so here are some beautiful landscapes that Sam filmed along the way.
