What if you were able to travel at the speed of light? Think of this: you d travel 186,000 miles in just one second. In other words, it would take you just a second to go around Earth seven and a half times! The speed at which light travels in a perfect vacuum is 671 million miles per hour! It takes sunlight on average 8 minutes and 17 seconds to travel all the way from the Sun to Earth - just enough time to drink a cup of coffee in the morning! Why don t we, humans, explore space at the speed of light? In short, the laws of physics make it impossible. Let s ignore this insignificant detail for now and imagine we CAN move at the speed of light! Discover how the notorious art forger Han van Meegeren tricked the world— and the Nazis— with his counterfeit Vermeer paintings. -- It was one of the strangest trials in Dutch history. The defendant in a 1947 case was an art forger who had counterfeited millions of dollars worth of paintings. But he wasn’t arguing his innocence— in fact, his life depended on proving that he had committed fraud. Who was this artist, and why was he on trial for his life? I know that right now is not the best time to go on a cruise. But when things come to normal it s going to be great again! In this video I say why going on a cruise is a lot of fun and you are going to enjoy it!
These handmade scissors have been produced in Sheffield, England, for over 100 years. But compared to a $2 mass-produced pair, the kitchen scissors will cost you over $100, and a pair of professional tailor s shears cost $315. So just what is it that makes them so expensive? How are people who live in tiny houses dealing with self-isolation?! In this video, we reached out to people who we have featured on the show in the past to catch up and see how they are coping with life in lockdown in their tiny homes. With countries closing their borders and many international flights cancelled, Rasa and I cut our Australia trip short to return to New Zealand. As with all international travellers, we were placed in self-isolation upon returning home. We have now been in self-isolation for the past two weeks and since returning home, New Zealand (along with many other countries around the world) has gone into total lockdown. The lockdown means that all non-essential businesses are closed and everyone is asked to stay at home and practice social distancing. Self Isolation is something that we all need to take really seriously. Covid-19 threatens many lives across the globe and it s important that we are all thinking of each other, and keeping ourselves, our loved ones and our communities safe. We hope to bring you as much great content as possible to do our part and help to keep you entertained and bursting with tiny house ideas while we are all in lockdown / isolation. I hope you enjoy this episode and insight into life in lockdown for the tiny house people of the world! We spend about one-third of our life sleeping, yet we still don’t completely understand this bizarre ritual we carry out each night. You lie down, your body goes unconscious, you see the weirdest pictures in your head, and then wake up only to repeat the whole process the next day. Although from the outside it seems like nothing but a routine, if we take time to think about it, it is just the opposite: there is a whole world of details and curiosities that we would not suspect at first glance. In today s video, we continue exploring Mendoza with a winery and vineyard tour at Bodegas Luminis. We learned about this winery completely by chance when we rented an AirBnB apartment and then discovered that our host s son has a bodega and offers tours. Of course, we had to visit! When we arrived, we met the owners Martín Castro and Cristián Allamand, who took us on a tour of their winery, guided us through the vineyards, showed us how the watering system works, explained their winemaking process, and then let us try their wines straight from the tank! We sampled a Saint Jeannet French white grape that had nearly gone extinct, we tried 3 different Malbecs and learned how the same grape can evolve into a different wine depending on where and how it grows, and we also tried a Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc blend that woke up our taste buds! We really enjoyed getting to see how a small winery works and we had even more fun sampling their delightful Mendoza wines! We are Samuel and Audrey, a travel vlogging couple from Canada. In this travel channel we share our travel and food vlogs while touring the world. We had the privilege of traveling around Argentina for nearly 3 months from January- April 2019 on a trip covering a large section of the country. We kicked things off with several days in Buenos Aires where we were joined by Audrey s parents eating and sightseeing around some of our favourite neighbourhoods in the city. We then flew from Buenos Aires to Cordoba where we spent a couple of weeks in the Sierras of Cordoba visiting both La Cumbrecita and Villa General Belgrano with highlights including hiking and delicious German and Swiss cuisine. From Cordoba, we then travelled a considerable distance on an overnight bus to Mar Del Plata just in time for a special food festival called Feria Masticar featuring the best of Argentine food and wine. We spent several days enjoying beaches and seafood before heading south to Patagonia to visit the province of Chubut. While on the Atlantic side of Chubut we visited Puerto Madryn, Peninsula Valdes, Trelew, Gaiman and Dolavon. To summarize our time in this area, we had incredibly close encounters with wildlife including penguins, sea lions and guanacos while also experiencing Welsh culture in Argentina. Our time in Patagonia continued as we headed from east to west trading more barren landscapes for thick forests, impressive mountains and magnificent lakes. We spent significant time in both Esquel and El Bolson with day trips to visit Trevelin, Parque Nacional Los Alerces, Cholila and Lago Puelo. Highlights included sailing, hiking, riding vintage trains and partaking in the national asado festival. We finished visiting Patagonia with time spent in Villa La Angostura, San Martin De Los Andes and Bariloche where we enjoyed more stunning scenery and hiking. On our way back to Buenos Aires, we took the Tren Patagonia to Las Grutas before meeting up with Audrey s dad again. To finish off our trip in Argentina, we spent more time in the capital and later Mendoza where we got to experience wine tourism to its fullest extent. Overall, we had an amazing time travelling around Argentina having only scratched the surface of this vast and diverse country. Overall our Argentina travel series explores cities, small towns that are off-the-beaten-path, and scenic attractions with a strong emphasis on Argentina cuisine and local culture. * * * This is part of our Travel in Argentina video series showcasing Argentine food, Argentine culture and Argentine cuisine. Practice more problem-solving at https://brilliant.org/TedEd/ -- According to legend, once every thousand years a host of sea monsters emerges from the depths to demand tribute from the floating city of Atlantartica. As the ruler of the city, you’d always dismissed the stories… until today, when they rose out of the roiling waters, surrounded your city and demanded a ransom of pearls.
