Walking down the aisles in the nearest grocery store, we don’t realize that some of our favorite products have a rich history. Apparently, some of them had completely different uses when they first came out. And some foods were invented by accident! For example, Coca-Cola was surprisingly invented by John Pemberton, who had a medical degree and was a pharmacist. Pemberton s French Wine Coca was initially used as a remedy for severe pains, headache, and as a nerve tonic. According to popular legends, potato chips were invented by accident. One claims they were invented in 1853 by a chef at a luxurious New York restaurant. French fries were one of the specials at this restaurant and people seemed to love them. But there was one customer who wasn’t satisfied with the quality, complaining they were too thick. George deliberately made his next batch of fries paper-thin. These fries were so thin, it was impossible to eat them with cutlery. Surprisingly, the finicky eater loved the dish. From popsicles to yogurt, here are 14 popular foods that were invented by a complete accident. #brightside A headshot of Ignacio "Nacho" Anaya, the inventor of nachos: By Unknown/Wikimedia, CC BY-SA 4.0 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0, https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=93017401 Animation is created by Bright Side. Voltaire s phrase - you must cultivate your own garden - is one of the most famous statements in the world. If there was one central target that its author wanted satirically to destroy, it was the hope of his age, a hope that centered around science, love, technical progress and reason. Voltaire was enraged. Of course science wasn’t going to improve the world; it would merely give new power to tyrants. Of course philosophy would not be able to explain away the problem of evil; it would only show up our vanity. Of course love was an illusion; power a chimera, humans irredeemably wicked, and the future absurd. Of all this his readers were to be left in no doubt. Hope was a disease and it was Voltaire’s generous goal to try to cure us of it…” MORE SCHOOL OF LIFE Watch more films on SELF in our playlist: http://bit.ly/TSOLself You can submit translations and transcripts on all of our videos here: https://www.youtube.com/timedtext_cs_panel?c=UC7IcJI8PUf5Z3zKxnZvTBog&tab=2 Find out how more here: https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/6054623?hl=en-GB SOCIAL MEDIA Feel free to follow us at the links below: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/theschooloflifelondon/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/TheSchoolOfLife Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theschooloflifelondon/ CREDITS Produced in collaboration with: Gabriella marsh https://gabriellamarsh.com/ Title animation produced in collaboration with Vale Productions https://www.valeproductions.co.uk/

Our collection of smart travel tips and road ideas will definitely help you solve any problem while you re away from home on another adventure. You don t need to buy a boat if you need one. Instead, try out our recycling DIY ideas - making a boat yourself by reusing a big old plastic bottle. Take a bottle of a size where you can comfortably sit in and cut a hole in it. Attach pool noodles as a safe edging around the cut and fix some wooden planks. They will help you balance the weight in a boat. Take a paddle and you re ready for a new river or lake adventure! Be sure to always wear a life west for safety during your trip ? You may not take a bucket on your trips, but always take an adhesive tape, because you can DIY almost anything with it, for example, a bucket. Fins a big tree branch and place a plastic bag on it. Now tape it all around with an adhesive tape creating the shape of the bag. The tape bucket is more durable than a plastic bag, you can use it for carrying water or any other goods. The hammerhead has an incredible 360-degree vision that s called binocular. This creature s eyes are tilted forward, and their field of vision overlaps. The "Wobbegong" means "shaggy beard" in an Australian Aboriginal language. And just one look at this underwater inhabitant can explain the name choice. The viper dogfish knows how to create its own light in the deep ocean pitch-dark waters. The animal has needle-like teeth and extendible jaws - this allows it to feed on prey half its size. At first sight, all these creatures have nothing in common whatsoever. But in reality, all of them are sharks! There are more than 500 shark species in the world, and lots of them don t look as if they re related. The most fearsome creatures in the ocean, sharks have been around for more than 400 million years. They have adapted to all kinds of tough conditions. Most people would probably feel more comfortable without sharks lurking in the ocean depths. So what if there were no sharks? What would the oceans look like if all of the sharks disappeared? (Spoiler: That would turn into a disaster for our planet.) #brightside TIMESTAMPS: Sharks aren t as bad as they re pictured 1:40 What do they eat? 2:04 What happened in North Carolina 4:32 Amazing facts about sharks 5:15 Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our Social Media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/brightside/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/brightgram/ 5-Minute Crafts Youtube: https://www.goo.gl/8JVmuC Stock materials (photos, footages and other): https://www.depositphotos.com https://www.shutterstock.com https://www.eastnews.ru ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For more videos and articles visit: http://www.brightside.me/

Outer space is really big! And probably there s no way we can get to know it well enough. However, there s always a chance to learn more about it. As we find out various facts about planets, stars and galaxies, we realize how tiny we are. And some of these facts may be really fascinating! For example, did you know that there re pretty scary planets out there? For example, TrEs-9B is a planet where there s always night. Just imagine not to be able to see the sun... ever! Another terrifying planet is HD 189733 b. It looks pretty: with wonderful patterns on its surface. But it s not as simple as it seems: it rains glass there! He shows apprentice De’Shaun how to cut the two separate wires at different lengths on either end of the connection to make a smaller junction. After twisting the wires together, he solders them and warms up heat shrink to make a watertight junction. Then they install the weatherproof lighting tape right into the track on the underside of the pergola beam. Hey guys, we’re Samuel and Audrey and today we’re bringing you to Grand Manan, an idyllic island in New Brunswick, Canada, set in the Bay of Fundy, quite close to the border with Maine. This was a family road trip we planned with Sam’s parents, George and Debbie, and some of their best friends, Joan and Gary. There are so many things to do in Grand Manan, and together we spent 4 days road tripping across the island visiting lighthouses, feasting on fresh lobster and fish and chips, exploring the historic smokesheds in Seal Cove, birdwatching in Castalia Marsh, taking a side trip to White Head Island, and catching some spectacular cliff-top sunsets. Our trip to Grand Manan was laid back with lots of time outdoors in nature, and now we want to share it with you. We think this is a must-visit island in Atlantic Canada, and we’ll show you why in this Grand Manan travel guide! If you’re planning a trip to Grand Manan in the summer, we’d suggest going on the Grand Manan Coastal Transport website and booking your ticket for the crossing ahead of time. This is a popular summer destination in New Brunswick, so the ferry can get busy. As for cost, you have to pay for your vehicle plus each individual passenger. It was $35.80 for the car and an additional $12 per passenger when we travelled. An adorable miniature craft and other projects you should try at least once In previous videos, we showed you how to make a miniature house from tiny bricks. We also showed you how to make small knives, little scissors from paper clips, and even realistic foods using polymer clay. Well, today, we’ve got a brand new project. We show you how to make a tiny stove using tiny bricks. The best part? It’s a fully functioning stove. You can use it to cook anything you like (but it’ll be a really small meal). It’s also essential to eliminate the amount of trash we produce, and one way to do that is through recycling projects. So, I give you some ideas on repurposing multiple plastic bottles into an outdoor sweeping broom. Now for the engineering enthusiasts, I’ve got a fun project to try when you’re bored. I show you how to make a robotic arm using cardboard. You won’t need batteries or electricity to make it work either, just a few syringes, tubes, and colored fluid to make it hydraulic.
