We’ve heard from so many teachers and students who are using Crash Course videos to help with learning amid all this uncertainty, and we are very grateful. Here is some widely applicable, evidence-based public health advice that we put together with the help of our friends at Operation Outbreak and the Sabeti Lab at Harvard. This video is supported by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation through Operation Outbreak and the Sabeti Lab at Harvard University and at Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard. Complexly also has other great channels like Healthcare Triage with Dr. Aaron Carroll and SciShow that are providing in-depth updates on COVID-19. What to do you do if your car breaks down in the middle of nowhere? Imagine you’re driving along an interstate highway in the desert, far from any civilization. It’s midnight. The road is dark, and only your headlights give you some picture of what’s ahead. You haven’t slept for hours now, and you feel exhausted. Suddenly, your car jerks, there’s a loud thud from somewhere inside, and the engine stops working. Your car is just rolling down the road. First thing you should do is check your cell reception. If there is, call the tow service — they’ll reach you and take both you and your car to the nearest town where you can get it repaired. But even if there’s no reception, you should still call the emergency services — your phone might be able to pick up the signal and you’ll at least make your situation known. After that, go outside and open the hood to let the smoke out. Okay, what to do next? How to handle a car breakdown on the interstate? #brightside TIMESTAMPS: Try to get some water 1:49 Should you walk to the nearest town? 2:39 Make sure you can defend yourself 3:35 Makeshift heater 5:36 Try to get the attention of planes 6:43 Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our Social Media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/brightside/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/brightgram/ 5-Minute Crafts Youtube: https://www.goo.gl/8JVmuC Stock materials (photos, footages and other): https://www.depositphotos.com https://www.shutterstock.com https://www.eastnews.ru ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For more videos and articles visit: http://www.brightside.me/

This recipe will feed ~4 people, depending on how hungry they are ;) Have fun with it! Like I said in the video, my sister-in-law showed me this recipe, but here is the original!!: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jaN3qsqXt38 What you’ll need, in order: (I tweaked it from the OG a little bit) 6-8 garlic cloves (depending on your taste ;)) 1 onion 1 fresh ginger ~2 inches minced (+ any other vegetable you enjoy!) Olive oil Turmeric powder Curry powder Red Pepper Flakes Salt & pepper — 2 cans of chickpeas 1 can of coconut milk 1 can of broth — Basamati rice 1 bunch of greens 1 bunch of fresh cilantro 1 scoop of plain greek yogurt 1. Chop garlic, onion, and ginger, and sauté them in olive oil with salt and pepper and sizzle until a little brown - maybe takes my tiny burner about 10 min. 1. Add in any other vegetables you’d like here! I have used sweet potatoes, regular potatoes, zucchini, bell pepper…there are no rules! 2. While those are cooking, drain and rinse chickpeas. 1. Add them in with the ginger garlic mixture 3. Stir everything up, and add in the turmeric, curry powder, more salt and pepper, and any other spice that tickles your fancy. 1. Let this cook for a few more minutes with with minimal stirring, browning chickpeas. 2. Once chickpeas are done, mash them up a little to help thicken the curry. 4. Next, pour in the can of coconut milk. 5. Right after that, fill that same coconut milk can up with the broth and pour. Or just buy a can of broth and use that, but it’s nice to have the bigger jug incase you want to add more later. Stir! 6. This where I sprinkle in some red pepper flakes to add some heat! 7. Bring to a small boil and just walk away! Let it alllll sizzle and thicken on medium heat until it’s to a nice thick consistency. Maybe 20 minutes. 8. While it’s thickening, make the rice. 9. Right before the curry is done, throw in some spinach, or whatever green you like. I actually think chopped kale is the best. Stir and let them cook in the soup for the last couple minutes. 10. Once it’s ready, serve the curry over rice, and add the best parts on top: 1. 1 scoop of greek yogurt 2. A [giant handful of] chopped fresh cilantro 3. A shake of turmeric powder just because it’s pretty :) 4. Drizzle olive oil. Enjoy!

If there were cataclysms on Earth every 5 minutes, living conditions on our planet would be almost the same as 4.5 billion years ago. Back then, seas and oceans boiled, lightning struck everywhere, tectonic plates changed their shape, lava flowed from volcanoes. And worse, no internet! The Earth resembled a vast, boiling cauldron, where life was gradually being created. If it starts to boil again, this cauldron could destroy almost all life on the planet. Consecutive cataclysms – won’t hurt to pretend. Let’s imagine, shall we? Okay, you wake up in a small underground bunker. The seismic sensor indicates that a 7-point earthquake will start in a few minutes. You pack a huge waterproof backpack and go upstairs. You need to leave the shelter because supplies are low. Also, yesterday you picked up a radio signal telling all survivors to go south immediately. The coordinates they gave aren t far from your location. You have to hurry, though, before the landscape changes again... #brightside Music by Epidemic Sound https://www.epidemicsound.com/ Subscribe to Bright Side : https://goo.gl/rQTJZz ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our Social Media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/brightside/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/brightgram/ 5-Minute Crafts Youtube: https://www.goo.gl/8JVmuC Stock materials (photos, footages and other): https://www.depositphotos.com https://www.shutterstock.com https://www.eastnews.ru ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For more videos and articles visit: http://www.brightside.me/
Easy crafts and other recycling DIYs you can make this weekend Being creative and getting crafty is one of the best ways to pass the time and exercise your brain. You give yourself a challenge by thinking about how a project should progress. So, to inspire your next crafty project, I’m showing you some of my ideas. In the first video section, I demonstrate how I used simple stuff I had in my office to make a machine gun that shoots little colored pencils. Did you know you can repurpose a pair of plastic knives into glasses for your next photoshoot? The only thing you’ll need for this one is a lighter to warm up the plastic and bend it. Don’t throw out your old car tire. Take pieces of wood from your hardware store and repurpose the tire into a stylish sitting stool for your living room. I also show you how to use two plastic buckets (office bins) and a wood board to create a coffee table. We don’t always say exactly what we mean, and yet we’re still pretty good at understanding each other. That’s because we don’t just use meaning to figure out what’s going on, we also use context. This episode of Crash Course Linguistics is all about pragmatics, the area of linguistics that deals with context. We’ll cover the four main assumptions we make about context in language, also known as Grice’s Maxims, as well as the ways that languages can use grammar to convey politeness, and the different types of conversational styles within and between languages. Growing something from seed or even successfully propagating a plant gives you a great deal of satisfaction. Well, in this video, I show you some fantastic and easy-to-follow gardening hacks that will help you grow any plant you can think of – from small trees to house plants, flowers, and veggies. Let s start with tools. I give you some ideas on how to repurpose plastic bottles in your gardening routine. You can punch a few holes on a water bottle, bury ¾ of it in soil, and use it to water the roots of your plants. Another great hack is to cut plastic bottles in long spiral stripes and use them to support your plants stems. Did you know you can use a wide-toothed comb to harvest small berries from a plant? Discover history’s first empire: Sumer, located in Mesopotamia, which built the world’s first cities and created the first writing system. -- History’s first empire rose out of a hot, dry landscape, without rainfall to nourish crops, without trees or stones for building. In spite of all this, its inhabitants built the world’s first cities, with monumental architecture and large populations— and they built them entirely out of mud. Soraya Field Fiorio details the rise and fall of the Sumerian empire. Lesson by Soraya Field Fiorio, directed by Tomás Pichardo-Espaillat.
