Today we re travelling even further south to the Chilean city of Punta Arenas, and we re also going to be taking you out for some delicious Chilean seafood! So far, buses have been our main way of travel across Patagonia, and we continued with that theme as we journeyed from Puerto Natales to Punta Arenas. It was about a 3-hour journey, so relatively short for this part of the world! Once we arrived in Punta Arenas, we checked in to our AirBnB and went out for dinner. We came across a restaurant called Estilo Magallánico that specializes in Chilean seafood dishes. We ordered the ceviche with avocado as a starter and it was divine. Then for the main dishes, we got king crab casserole in a rich and creamy sauce with lots of cheese! And we also ordered the parmesan scallops in a buttery sauce. Every thing was delightful! We seriously loved the food at this place - if you ever find yourself in Punta Arenas and want to try some Chilean seafood dishes, you need to come here! We then had a pretty chill afternoon in the apartment. We had been travelling for almost 3 months at this point, so we were pretty tired. But don t worry, in the next video we ll be showing around Punta Arenas main attractions, and we ll also visit a couple of different restaurants and continue sampling Chilean dishes. Below is a list of all the Korean foods we tried in this video, as well as a list of the restaurants we visited. Mandu (만두) These are dumplings that can be served steamed, boiled, pan-fried, or deep-fried. We ordered the pan-fried beef dumplings. You can dip them in a spicy soy-based sauce with red chilli flakes. Jeon (전) This is a savoury Korean pancake that can feature various ingredients. We got the one with seafood and rice cakes. The batter is very fluffy and a bit like a fritter. Hot dog (핫도그) Also known as a Korean rice dog, this is a hot dog on a stick, coated in a sweet batter. It can feature numerous toppings including panko breadcrumbs, french fries, cornflakes, and even ramen noodles. Hotteok (호떡) This stuffed pancake is a very popular Korean street food item, especially during the winter months. The dough is stuffed with a mixture of brown sugar, honey, chopped peanuts, and cinnamon. Hodugwaja (호두과자) Often called a walnut cookie, this is more like a donut hole made with pounded walnuts and wheat flour and then stuffed with red bean paste. It is a local specialty from the city of Cheonan, South Korea and it s also a popular snack to enjoy during train rides. Bibimbap (비빔밥) This is one of the most popular dishes you can try in Korea. It consists of a bed of rice topped with various vegetables which can include zucchini, soybean sprouts, mushrooms and more. It s typically topped with a fried egg and gochujang sauce which is a fermented red pepper paste. Tteokbokki (떡볶이) This Korean street food dish is made with sticky rice cakes served in a spicy red chilli paste sauce. In today’s video, we’re going to be taking you on a day trip to Torres del Paine National Park. This is a major trekking destination in Chile and one could easily spend a few weeks on the trails, but since we were a bit short on time, today we’re going to be showing you some of the highlights you can experience on a day trip. During our tour, we saw all sorts of wildlife, visited the cave of a prehistoric animal, and even came face to face with icebergs, so all in all, a very good day and a great option for anyone wanting to day trip from Puerto Natales. Our first stop of the day was the Mylodon’s Cave, which is a natural monument located about 30 minutes northwest of Puerto Natales. This site is comprised of several caves, the largest of which is 30 meters high and 200 metres deep. This is where the prehistoric mylodon s remains were found. A bit of trivia: apparently, the mylodon’s state of conservation was so good that at first the remains were believed to be that of a living species. This launched a small wave of early 20th century expeditions in search of a living, breathing mylodon. Well, that search didn’t yield much. The samples were eventually dated back about 10,000 years...they were just in great condition because of the extreme cold and stable conditions the cave had to offer. From there, we continued on our tour to Torres del Paine National Park, which is located 60 kilometres north of Puerto Natales. As you can imagine, it was a pretty scenic drive; the best surprise was spotting a group of condors circling just above us. This is the largest bird of prey in the world, so we were pretty excited to see several of them so close by! Once we arrived in Torres del Paine National Park, we visited numerous attractions like the Paine River Waterfall, Laguna Amarga, Lago Nordenskjöld and Lago Pehoé. We also drove past estancias, experienced winds that nearly blew us over, and of course, we were greeted with incredible landscapes at every turn. Just driving through the park’s dirt roads was an adventure in and of itself! In the afternoon we had lunch at the Río Pingo restaurant which is located inside the national park on the southern tip of Lago Gray. Then, we enjoyed a beautiful walk on the Gray Trail that goes down to a beach where you can see icebergs up close. It was an incredible experience! We really enjoyed this 1-day excursion to Torres del Paine.
