This garage clean-up and organization project has been years in the making! Thankfully, this month my readers and I are doing a 30-Day Room Makeover Challenge where we each take a room or space in our home and make it over by November 30th! Today is officially Day 2 of the challenge and so far I have mostly cleaned out the bad side of the garage. Tomorrow I will sort through the rest of the items, make donations, and pressure wash the garage floor in order to prep to paint the garage floor! To address the dilemma that I had, I decided to just leave things out in the driveway--the things that will be donated. Everyone else was neatly stacked on the other side. I admit that I have never gone to my county s recycling center, but I stopped there yesterday to get rid of some old scrap wood and materials that the thrift store and salvage shop won t take (I kept the mirror, though). I felt sooo guilty until I talked to one of the workers who explained that the trash gets burned and turned into electricity. I don t understand the mechanics behind it, or how that still doesn t contribute to air pollution, but I did feel better that my scraps weren t just going to sit in a landfill somewhere. I still felt sad that many people don t think to simply contact the Salvation Army or another thrift store for perfectly good furniture pieces. Why should that stuff simply be destroyed and burned?? **Sorry for the shaky video! My iPhone malfunctioned during the quick interview and I didn t realize it until I got home and watched the footage. Yikes! But I got a great idea to make a few changes and to upcycle it into something cooler: a desk for my oldest son! How to easily color match paint on your walls and other surfaces? In today s video, I m testing out the Nix Mini Color Sensor to see if it will accurately match the existing color on my wall after I repair a hole in the wall and need to touch up the wall with a comparable color match. How well did it work? The app will choose perfect color combos based on the colors scanned! LIMITATIONS: If you’re trying to get a 100% perfect exact match to an existing paint color, there may be several variables that could interfere, including paint fading due to sun exposure or choosing a paint in a different brand/library than the existing wall color. OVERALL: I love this sensor for quickly scanning colors in fabric, on walls, in clothing, in nature, etc., and getting names for paint colors that closely match that color. I also love that the app recommends complimentary colors for pretty color combos. It takes the guesswork out of knowing what looks good together.
