During TTI’s last trip to Tokyo, most of the itinerary was centred around food. When the itinerary literally consists of stuffing your face with as much food as possible, Jerome and Clarence have eaten so much that they ve probably eaten as much as sumos do. With their large appetites and newly expanded stomachs from eating so much food, Jerome and Clarence thought they could take on the diet of a sumo wrestler. They thought wrong. While the team was in China, we got to know a really nice local via couchsurfing.com, Jagger, who very graciously invited two of us (Chloe and Renald) to spend a holiday in his home village. A little context — In our final leg of the trip, we were in Changsha, and one of the days we were there, it happened to be the annual Dragonboat Festival, also known as 端午节. It s a hugeeeeee holiday that is celebrated by locals all across China! In different cities, people celebrate it in different ways. In our experience, it was more of a get-together of family members — Making traditional dumplings together, harvesting farm crops, having a wide spread of food for dinner and all that fuzzy warmth when families come together : -) We wanted to capture the essence of the holiday, and what better way than to reach out to locals to see if they d let us in on how they spent the day? And that was how we met Jagger. Follow Chloe and Renald on their trip to a village that s only a couple of hours drive away from the main city of Changsha! Would you want to do the same? :-) *A very, very huge thank you to Jagger and family for hosting us with kindness, graciousness and lots and lots of love. :-) ---------------------------------------------- Edited by: Chloe Cara - http://instagram.com/qlo.e3e Team China: Sherry Wong - http://instagram.com/sherrified Chloe Cara - http://instagram.com/qlo.e3e Renald Loh - http://instagram.com/spurredrenald Ria Chen - http://instagram.com/riallyitsme Follow our travel guides around the world on: ► https://thetravelintern.com/ Follow us on our travel adventures on social media: ► @TheTravelIntern http://facebook.com/thetravelintern http://instagram.com/thetravelintern Learn about The Travel Intern Programme: ► https://thetravelintern.com/about-tra... Kagaya Izakaya, or in english, Frog is Stranger that Fiction is as weird as it sounds. We don’t really know how to explain this one. Tucked away in a hidden basement underneath Tokyo street, Kagaya Bar is known as one of the craziest bars in Tokyo. We checked it out to see if it lived up to the hype. And boy did it deliver. We will probably never experience anything remotely close to this ever again. Kagaya Bar is truly is a bar like no other, 10/10 would go again. Don’t get us wrong. Working at The Travel Intern is amazing. It’s true, we get paid to travel the world, experience new cultures and savour new foods. Usually when we think of China, the first things that come to mind (well, at least for us at first) are the Great Wall of China, the Tiananmen Square, Shanghai’s bustling city… But that’s not all there is! Check out our full itinerary across Wuhan, Zhangjiajie, Fenghuang and Changsha here: https://thetravelintern.com/central-china-itinerary-things-to-do-wuhan-changsha-zhangjiajie/ WUHAN (00:35) 00:36 - Yellow Crane Tower This is probably the most iconic sight in Wuhan, where local tourists and locals both come to visit all year round. 00:50 - Guiyuan Temple One of the four largest meditation temples in Hubei province. It’s where people go to burn the first bunch of incense for the coming year, and also to pray for auspiciousness and safety. 00:57 - Moshan Scenic Area If you ever need to get away from the hustle and bustle of the main city, this is the perfect place to head to in Wuhan. 01:17 - Hubu Alley It’s not a visit to Wuhan if you don’t visit Hubu Alley, the alley full of breakfast food specialties of Wuhan! And it holds significance value to the city’s history too. ZHANGJIAJIE (01:33) 01:35 - Avatar Mountains Here, you get to behold the place that was a huge inspiration to the creation of Avatar’s Hallelujah Mountains landscape. It’s super crowded though, so be prepared!! 01:43 - Bailong Elevator The world’s tallest and heaviest outdoor lift surely deserves a feature. It’s actually one of the only ways to get from Yuanjiajie area to Wulingyuan, so do take note if you’re travelling to and fro the destinations. 02:02 - Tianzi Mountain One of the best sunrise spots in Zhangjiajie, Tianzi Mountain area is one of the more hidden, less crowded spots in Zhangjiajie National Park. 02:09 - Imperial Brush Peaks Watch as the fog lifts in the early morning, revealing these rock formations that line up like brush tips. 02:16 - Baofeng Lake After a looooong day out exploring ZJJ, this lake ride is what you need to rest your weary feet. 02:24 - Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge You’d have probably seen videos of people acting like the world’s gonna end while they’re shaking on this glass bridge. It’s actually not scary, considering how there are so many people on the bridge you don’t really think about the height. *DO SET ASIDE 3 HOURS for this entire glass bridge experience though, because after going past the bridge, you have to walk through a pretty long way through the forest below. It’s pretty damn scenic and you’d probably be snapping photos non-stop.* 02:50 - Tianmen Mountain Tianmen Mountain is down in the main city of Zhangjiajie, not in the region of Zhangjiajie National Park. There are even more glass bridges to cross ;-) FENGHUANG (03:08) 03:11 - Fenghuang Village Ancient, historic city by day, crazy party land by night. Truly an experience, if you ask me. CHANGSHA (03:23) 03:26 - Juzizhou AKA Orange Isle If you search for ‘Changsha’ in Google, or any search engine, this would probably pop up as the iconic landmark of the city. Learn about Mao’s history and background here! 03:42 - Yuelu Shan AKA Mount Yuelu Just like in Wuhan, Yuelu Shan offers the ultimate getaway from the bustling city. 04:00 - Meixihu International Culture & Arts Center It almost feels like you’ve stepped into another planet, honestly… 04:14 - Huangxing Walking Road We spent many nights here, eating, shopping, eating, eating, eating and more eating. Freaking AMAZING food found all along this stretch of road that goes on for kilometres… Be sure to try their specialties! AND THERE YOU HAVE IT, China like you’ve never seen!!! ---------------------------------------------- Edited by: Sherry Wong - http://instagram.com/sherrified Follow our travel guides around the world on: ► https://thetravelintern.com/ Follow us on our travel adventures on social media: ► @TheTravelIntern http://facebook.com/thetravelintern http://instagram.com/thetravelintern Business enquiries: weare@thetravelintern.com
In Phnom Penh, Cambodia, more than 20,000 youths live off the streets. Most of them do not go to school and are exposed to gangs and drugs at a young age. Tiny Toones take some of these children off the streets and uses break dancing and the culture of hip-hop to engage, inspire and educate these youths. Tiny Toones gives these children a safe, positive environment to channel their energy and creativity into the arts and education, allowing them to aim for better employment possibilities and feel supported pursuing their dreams. In this TIL, we take an intimate look at the day to day lives of these kids at Tiny Toones. We saw how small everyday kindness brought so much impact, hope and happiness to these children. If you would like to support Tiny Toones and give these children a place to grow, to learn and get better at dance, you can make a small donation on their website here: http://www.tinytoones.org/donate/http://www.tinytoones.org/donate/ Edited by: Jerome Teo - http://instagram.com/jeromememe Follow our travel guides around the world on: ► https://thetravelintern.com/ Follow us on our travel adventures on social media: ► @TheTravelIntern http://facebook.com/thetravelintern http://instagram.com/thetravelintern Learn about The Travel Intern Programme: ► https://thetravelintern.com/about-tra...
