This video for Old Jameson Distillery Vacation Travel Guide is one of our older productions, but we wanted to share it with you to get some feedback on how these older clips compare to the more recent travel guides we’ve shot. Below are some links to those recent videos. Feel free to compare with this clip and comment below to let us know which ones you prefer, and what else you’d love to see from Expedia on YouTube! St. Petersburg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3ISUUO0CSo Kyoto: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jd1wzlwtKJ0 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Centuries ago, John Jameson purchased the Bow Street Distillery in Dublin, Ireland. Jameson Whiskey was born shortly thereafter, and the world has never quite been the same. Today, if you’re in Ireland doing some sightseeing, the Old Jameson Distillery is a popular spot to explore. Even if you’re not a fan of their fabled whiskey, you’re bound to find the distillery an interesting stop on your jaunt to the Emerald Isle. Tours of the Old Jameson Distillery are available for those curious about the brand’s history. You can wander through a recreation of the distillery during its earlier years, learn about the process required to make the famous liquor, and, of course, enjoy a sample of whiskey at the end of the tour. If you still haven’t had enough Jameson after the tour, stick around; the Old Jameson Distillery houses a restaurant and three bars, so you can responsibly enjoy a little more of its prize product. If you’re a whiskey aficionado, try the comparison tasting to sample the difference between whiskeys of various nations, or just sit back in the restaurant and enjoy watching the activity in the distillery. This video for St. Stephens Green Vacation Travel Guide is one of our older productions, but we wanted to share it with you to get some feedback on how these older clips compare to the more recent travel guides we’ve shot. Below are some links to those recent videos. Feel free to compare with this clip and comment below to let us know which ones you prefer, and what else you’d love to see from Expedia on YouTube! St. Petersburg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3ISUUO0CSo Kyoto: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jd1wzlwtKJ0 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Located in the very center of Dublin is St. Stephen’s Green, an emerald square chock-full of local history. In its earliest years, the area that became St. Stephen’s Green was a marsh used by residents of Dublin as a common grazing area. It was walled off in 1664 and had several houses built around it as a sort of central square. This continued for nearly a century, effectively turning St. Stephen’s Green into a park for an early planned community. At this point, since only the very wealthy could afford to live in the houses around the green, to tour St. Stephen’s Green became the privilege of the upper classes. An act of Parliament opened the park to the public in the late 1800s, and it’s been a popular downtown destination ever since. Since it is adjacent to Grafton Street—one of Dublin’s biggest shopping areas—St. Stephen’s Green is a popular place among locals who stop by to relax after a long day of wandering in and out of shops. You can also do a little sightseeing in St. Stephen’s Green itself. The park is full of sculptures and memorials, and you can easily spend several hours wandering its trails, listening to the chirps of birds and the wind rustling through the green leaves above. St. Stephen’s Green is also home to a lake, an artificial waterfall, and countless types of flora and fauna. How will you unwind in St. Stephen’s Green? St. Petersburg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3ISUUO0CSo Kyoto: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jd1wzlwtKJ0 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Trinity College, first founded by Queen Elizabeth I in 1592, is both a prominent center of education and a tourist destination. Located in the center of Dublin, Ireland, Trinity College alumni include Bram Stoker and Oscar Wilde. The campus sits across from the former Irish Houses of Parliament, and these buildings, among several others, have given the school its distinguished, instantly recognizable appearance. A tour of Trinity College will reveal a number of classically styled buildings and vast amounts of green space. You’ll no doubt stop at the Campanile, a bell tower and one of the standout points of the campus. We don’t recommend passing through the Campanile when the bell tolls; superstitious students believe they will fail their exams if it goes off while they’re beneath it. If you’re not a student here, or simply do not fear bad luck, feel free to laugh in the face of danger and walk beneath it while it rings. Outside of Trinity College, you’ll find a wealth of things to do. The campus is right near Grafton Street, famed for its many shopping and eating opportunities. In addition, you should pay a visit to the National Wax Museum, or step aboard the sailing ship Jeanie Johnston, a replica of the vessels that carried hundreds of thousands of immigrants to the New World in the 1800s. Will you walk through the Campanile? Whether you want the perfect spot for a romantic getaway or need a couple of days to yourself, a tour of New Ross might be just what you’re looking for. This quaint town dates back to the Middle Ages, and is full of stunning medieval architecture that houses very modern shops, cafes, and pubs. While you can spend plenty of time doing a pub crawl or exploring some of the nearby museums, your sightseeing in New Ross will no doubt include a visit to the Dunbrody. This is a fully operational replica of the immigrant ships that carried so many Irishmen and women to the New World during the 1800s, and offers guided tours from costumed docents. New Ross tourism usually includes a stop to view the Tapestry Project, an effort undertaken by 100 local embroiderers. The carefully constructed panels celebrate the history of New Ross and its surrounding area. What do you want to see in New Ross? Below are some links to those recent videos. Feel free to compare with this clip and comment below to let us know which ones you prefer, and what else you’d love to see from Expedia on YouTube! St. Petersburg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3ISUUO0CSo Kyoto: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jd1wzlwtKJ0 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A tour of Galway City is a walk down the streets of a settlement that has seen much. Once a major trading post in the Middle Ages, Galway City also endured a nearly year-long siege during the Cromwellian Conquest of Ireland. Though its fortunes have ebbed and flowed over the years, Galway City is now a vibrant entertainment hub and a beloved destination for visitors from all over the world. We recommend that your Galway City sightseeing include a look into some of the city’s famed local history. Galway City grew from a settlement around the Dun Bhun na Gaillime, a fort that once overlooked the River Corrib. Once you’ve learned a bit about The City of the Tribes—one of Galway City’s many nicknames—it’s time to find out why Galway City is also referred to as “The Cultural Heart of Ireland.” The residents of this city love music and the arts, and it seems every other day there’s some sort of festival or event going on. Whether you want to attend a concert or celebrate a gallery opening, Galway City probably has something up your alley. While you can lose count of all the local performances you take in at pubs and cafes, don’t lose sight of Galway City’s natural beauty. As the sun goes down, you can take a stroll along Galway Bay, exchange stories of adventure with the residents, and take a breath of fresh sea air. What was your favorite part of Galway City? St. Petersburg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N3ISUUO0CSo Kyoto: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jd1wzlwtKJ0 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For a peek into history, pay a visit to Dunluce Castle, located on the coast of Northern Ireland. This crumbling medieval stronghold was first constructed in the 13th century, though historians believe it was built over the bones of an even older Irish fort. The castle changed hands and was often modified until the 1600s, after which it was largely abandoned. Dunluce Castle perches atop a basalt cliff, and is accessible only via a narrow bridge. A Dunluce Castle tour is a great opportunity to explore the ruins, which include two drum towers—the distinctive round protrusions seen on so many castles. Wander across the old cobblestone courtyard and look out over the sea, or make your way down the steps to the wishing well. Whatever you do, don’t forget to stop by the mermaid’s cave during your Dunluce Castle sightseeing. The cave is a remarkable natural cathedral located beneath the fortress; stand still and listen—can you hear the ghosts of the sailors reportedly stranded in here? If you’d really like a taste of the castle’s lore, book a guided tour in advance to learn about some of the local myths and legends. You may even get to hear about the recently rediscovered Dunluce Town that is currently being excavated. What’s your favorite story about Dunluce Castle? This onetime small home grew exponentially after Richard White purchased the land in 1765; through his careful expansion, the estate eventually surpassed 80,000 acres. It remained in the White family throughout its colorful history, including a five-year stint as a hospital during the Irish Civil War, and today it has been converted into a charming bed and breakfast and tea room. Bantry House sightseeing includes a trip through some of the estate’s gardens. Explore terraces, rows of shrubs, and hedges, many of which overlook Bantry Bay. A tour of Bantry House’s interior is much like wandering into a museum, as the house is loaded with artwork, antiques, and other decorations. Many of these items date back to Viscount Berehaven, who traveled extensively through Europe with his wife during the 1820s and 1830s. Bantry House isn’t all antiques and art, though; on Fridays, you can peruse local produce and potential souvenirs at the Bantry Market. What was your favorite part of Bantry House?
