The story of Dongpirang Village is one you’ll never forget. This small seaside community in South Korea was slated for redevelopment in the early 2000s, but its inhabitants came together in a unique type of protest. During October of 2007, they covered the walls of its buildings with colorful murals, turning the village into one big art installation. These remarkable street paintings so bolstered Dongpirang Village tourism that the demolition was canceled. Dongpirang Village sightseeing will take you to Dongpirang-gil Street, where many of these murals originated. Study paintings of people, flowers, animals, and much more as you roam the area. After your art walk, head for nearby Gangguan Port, which Dongpirang Village overlooks, and enjoy some fish caught fresh from the Sea of Japan. What was your favorite part of Dongpirang Village? Florence s landmark Duomo (cathedral) is crowned by Brunelleschi s majestic dome — the first Renaissance dome and the model for many domes to follow (climb it for a glorious view). Nearby the Baptistery features Ghiberti s magnificent bronze doors, which Michelangelo called the "gates of paradise." These creations help define the Renaissance, when Florence blossomed and classical arts were reborn. #ricksteveseurope #ricksteves #florence Visit http://www.ricksteves.com for more information about this destination and other destinations in Europe.
