La Tomatina Festival or The Tomato Fight in Spain is an amazing festival that happens in Bunol, near Valencia, at the end of every August. 11 trucks of tomatoes make their way into Buñol city square and a town of 9000 floods to 50 000+. This is La Tomatina, and it s the world s biggest food fight. Since it began hundreds of years ago, the festival as grown into a world wide phenomenon. You can see these tomato throwing fights in all corners of the world. Some more famous ones being in Glastonbury and Seattle. I hooked up with some friends on Couch Surfing and we took the train from Valencia to Bunol. At that time, it was packed. I can t beleive how many people are there now. I would recommend going the day before and booking accommodations far, far, in advance. It s a helluva a party. Prepare to get soaked, stained, and pushed around. It was only an hour, which was a good thing. Scientists have recently discovered nanodiamonds in the flames of ordinary candles. They are produced at a rate of about 1.5 million per second. Unfortunately they are also burned up at this rate and released into the atmosphere as carbon dioxide. Still this finding may prove useful in the ongoing search for economical ways to produce diamonds.
