Making your travels easier! Packing JUST a carry on for a Round the World trip. **Please Note** If you are taking a carry on, you most likely will not get through with a pocket knife, so pack it at your own risk. I ve only gotten through with it once, which was surprising. The tweezers have always made it through as well as the nail clippers. High Speed video. Cats. Physics. Weightlessness. Of all my videos, if you don t share this one, you probably never will. Please consider sharing by clicking here: http://bit.ly/FLIPPIN_CATS GiGi was not hurt during the making of this video. We took great care to make sure she would be safe. Next I ll explain how the physics involved in flipping cats allow us to operate Space Telescopes (Seriously). So as simple of a question as this is, it turns out to be a MAJOR POINT OF STUDY in Physics, Robotics, Space Satellite Control, Weapons Development, Biomedical Engineering, etc. It s stumped scientists and engineers since Newton s day. Here s something interesting. The cat isn t twisting his back.. he s actually BENDING it. The next video will go into great detail about what s going on there, and explain how it relates to studying the farthest points in the universe (Seriously... the fact that a cat can do this allows us to study the Universe.. no exaggeration). The high speed camera used was a Phantom Miro M320S. How lift actually works: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFO4PBolwFg More with Canadian Olympian Hunter Lowden: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6YVOPUkbu6g How does a sailboat work? The standard idea is that the wind pushes the sails from behind, causing the boat to move forward. Although this technique is used at times, it is not the most efficient way to sail a boat (and it means the boat can never go faster than the wind). Lift is the key mechanism driving a boat forwards. As air flows over the sails, it moves faster over the outer side, creating lower pressure than on the inner side. This produces a force which is mostly to the side and a bit forwards. Lift on the centerboard pushes to the opposite side, cancelling the sideways force and adding a forward component of force to the boat. numberphile http://bit.ly/numberphile efit30 http://bit.ly/O4CMme appchat http://bit.ly/NxAMlX erikaanear http://bit.ly/MdyUzQ whoisjimmy http://bit.ly/LtFzpW minutephysics http://bit.ly/Muh6CC 1veritasium http://bit.ly/MrupzL

In which John Green teaches you about the American Revolution and the American Revolutionary War, which it turns out were two different things. John goes over the issues and events that precipitated rebellion in Britain s American colonies, and he also explores the ideas that laid the groundwork for the new American democracy. Find out how the tax bill from the Seven Years War fomented an uprising, how the Enlightenment influenced the Founding Fathers, and who were the winners and losers in this conflict. (hint: many of the people living in the Colonies ended up losers) The Revolution purportedly brought freedom and equality to the Thirteen Colonies, but they weren t equally distributed. In which John Green teaches you about the life and death of one of history s great explorers, Captain James Cook of the British Navy. He charted large swaths of the Pacific ocean, laid claim to Australia and New Zealand, and died a bizarre death in the Sandwich Islands, which are now called the Hawaiian Islands. Exactly how and why Captain Cook was killed in Hawaii is a long-running historical debate. John presents two interpretations of the event and talks about what the differing interpretations say about history. It turns out how the story is told depends on who is doing the storytelling, and people from different backgrounds can interpret events in very different ways. Also, there is a celebration and a mustache involved in this episode, so you definitely don t want to miss it. In which John teaches you about the Seven Years War, which may have lasted nine years. Or as many as 23. It was a very confusing war. The Seven Years War was a global war, fought on five continents, which is kind of a lot. John focuses on the war as it happened in the Americas, Asia, and Africa. the "great" European powers were the primary combatants, but they fought just about everywhere. Of course, this being a history course, the outcomes of this war still resonate in our lives today. The Seven Years war determined the direction of the British Empire and led pretty directly to the subject of Episode 28, the American Revolution.
