Let dry and draw whatever you want on it with some regular chalk. Pumpkin Decorating #2: Melted Crayon Pumpkins Peel the wrappers off some wax crayons and hot glue them to the top of your pumpkin, Use a blow dryer on high heat/low air flow to melt the crayons into a cool drippy design. Pumpkin Decorating #3: Jewel Encrusted Pumpkin with Stick Stem Get acrylic gems from the craft store and hot glue them to a small pumpkin. Grab a couple small sticks from outside and wrap them together with twine to create a stem. Attach your stem to the top of your jeweled pumpkin with more hot glue. Happy halloween! This stuff is really easy to make, and can be a fun project for kids or even Halloween parties. WHERE TO BUY BORAX (US): http://www.20muleteamlaundry.com/store-locator Look in the aisle with the laundry detergent, fabric softener, and spray starch. If you live outside of the US, look for other brand products that say "detergent booster", those may work as a substitute. Ingredients: • Borax (1 tsp.) • Elmer s glue (4-5 oz. bottle, clear or white) • Water (1½ cups) • Food color (about 8 drops) Supplies: • Bowls (2) • Measuring cups, teaspoon • Plastic bag .............................................. ALTERNATIVE RECIPES: If you live outside of the US, look for other brand products that say "detergent booster" or "liquid starch", those may work as a substitute. I think detergent booster (Borax) and liquid starch (Stay-Flo) have the best results and make slime that is easier to handle. Corn starch recipes didn t have the same consistency and didn t work for me. If you have any other recipes, feel free to include them in the comments. Liquid laundry detergent will work, but only for white glue. This is not my favorite recipe because it makes a sticky slime, but if you absolutely can t find any of the other ingredients and you really want to make slime, it s an option: • Liquid laundry detergent (1/4 cup) • Elmer s glue (4 oz. bottle, white) • Water (1/2 cup) .............................................. ❋ Related Videos ❋ DIY Slime (without Borax) http://bit.ly/14qy1dU DIY Leopard Print Pattern http://bit.ly/XPaGzh DIY Chocolate Spider Treats http://bit.ly/ZwvHj5 .............................................. ❋ Follow me! ❋ FACEBOOK http://facebook.com/sealemon TWITTER http://twitter.com/sea_lemon INSTAGRAM http://instagram.com/sealemon SNAPCHAT sealemondiy PINTEREST http://pinterest.com/sealemon TUMBLR http://sealemon.co ETSY SHOP http://sealemon.etsy.com ‧‧‧‧‧‧‧‧‧‧‧‧‧‧‧‧‧‧‧‧‧‧‧‧‧‧‧‧‧‧‧‧‧‧‧‧‧‧‧‧‧‧‧‧‧ ❋ PO Box ❋ Sea Lemon 1776 N. In which John Green teaches you about World War II, aka The Great Patriotic War, aka The Big One. So how did this war happen? And what does it mean? We ve all learned the facts about World War II many times over, thanks to repeated classroom coverage, the History channel, and your grandfather (or maybe great-grandfather) showing you that Nazi bayonet he used to keep in his sock drawer and telling you a bunch of age-inappropriate stories about his harrowing war experiences. So, why did the Axis powers think forceful expansion was a good idea? (they were hungry). So why did this thing shake out in favor of the Allies? Hint: it has to do with the fact that it was a world war. Germany and Japan made some pretty serious strategic errors, such as invading Russia and attacking the United States, and those errors meant that pretty much the whole world was against them. So, find out how this worldwide alliance came together to stop the Axis expansion. All this, plus Canada finally gets the respectful treatment it deserves. Oh, and a warning: there are a few graphic images in this episode. Sensitive viewers may want to use caution, especially around the 9:15 mark. At the Palais de la Decouverte in Paris, they showed me this experiment where a 1kg aluminium plate is levitated above a large coil of wire that is being supplied with 800A of alternating current at 900Hz. This is by far the best demonstration of electromagnetic induction I have ever seen. Back in London, I visited the magnetic lab of Michael Faraday in the basement of the Royal Institution. It was here that he did his groundbreaking work on induction. People had previously observed that current in a wire causes a compass needle to deflect, but more exciting was the prospect of using a magnetic field to generate current. Faraday created his famous induction ring by winding two coils of insulated wire onto an iron ring. When he connected a battery to one coil, a small pulse of current was induced in the other. When the battery was disconnected, current was induced in the other direction. This led Faraday to the conclusion that current was induced in the second coil only when the magnetic field through it was changing. And if they hadn t been wrapped on the same ring, Faraday may have noticed that the two coils repel each other when the current is induced due to the interaction of their magnetic fields. This is the same thing that is happening with the aluminium plate, except we re using alternating current to create a continually changing magnetic field. This induces an alternating current in the plate, producing an opposing magnetic field which levitates the disk.
Hank introduces us to one of the most diverse and important families in the tree of life - the vascular plants. These plants have found tremendous success and their secret is also their defining trait: conductive tissues that can take food and water from one part of a plant to another part. Though it sounds simple, the ability to move nutrients and water from one part of an organism to another was an evolutionary breakthrough for vascular plants, allowing them to grow exponentially larger, store food for lean times, and develop features that allowed them to spread farther and faster. Plants dominated the earth long before animals even showed up, and even today hold the world records for the largest, most massive, and oldest organisms on the planet. In which John Green teaches you about China s Revolutions. While the rest of the world was off having a couple of World Wars, China was busily uprooting the dynastic system that had ruled there for millennia. Most revolutions have some degree of tumult associated with them, but China s 20th-century revolutions were REALLY disruptive. In 1911 and 1912, Chinese nationalists brought 3000 years of dynastic rule to an end. China plunged into chaos as warlords staked out regions of the country for themselves. The nationalists and communists joined forces briefly to bring the nation back together under the Chinese Republic, and then they quickly split and started fighting the Chinese Civil War. The fight between nationalists and communists went on for decades and was interrupted by an alliance to fight the invading Japanese during World War II. After World War II ended, the Chinese Civil War was back on. Mao and the communists were ultimately victorious, and Chiang Kai-Shek ended up in Taiwan. And then it got weird. Mao spent years repeatedly trying to purify the Communist Party and build up the new People s Republic of China with Rectifications, Anti Campaigns, Five Year Plans. the Great Leap Forward, and the Cultural Revolution. These had mixed results, to say the least. John will cover all this and more in this week s Crash Course World History. Chapters: Introduction: China s Revolutions 00:00 Calls for Reform in China 0:58 An Open Letter to Sun Yat Sen 1:33 Overthrowing the Qing Dynasty 2:38 The Guomindang and the Chinese Communist Party 3:44 Mao Establishes the People s Republic of China 6:09 China s Soviet-inspired Five Year Plans 8:11 China s Cultural Revolution 9:52 Credits 11:30 Resources: The Search for Modern China by Jonathan D.
