We are currently in Palermo. And we re eating at a place called Don Julio. This is a parrilla which means they focus on grilled meats. And it is a bit more upscale than the one we normally go to over in Recoleta. So it should be an interesting experience. See if you like it Sam. Good? Esta bien. So let s just take a minute to talk about the tablecloth. Yeah, so the first thing we noticed was just how like thick and durable. Like this is leather cowhide. Also, it is cool just the way that the sauces are presented here. We ve got chimmichurri, we have the salsa and then over here the butter. And show us that steak knife. Oh, yeah, this thing. This thing is incredible. This is actually heavy. I ve never had any kind of knife that has felt as solid in my hands. Yeah, you can buy them at the restaurant but they re like 800 Pesos. It feels more like a dagger. It is a weapon. It is a weapon. So we ve got some bread fresh out of the oven. Look at that. I wonder if they make it here themselves because this thing is like piping hot. Ooh. A nice way to start the meal. I just blew crumbs across the table. Alright, so time to put the knife to good use. I m cutting in to the bife de lomo. And this is our tenderloin which is nice and juicy. They way I like it. Mmmmm. Oh, wow. Honestly, that just melts in your mouth. That is probably the most tender tenderloin we ve had to date in Argentina. I d have to say. But let s add some chimichurri. Don t forget the chimmichurri. Can t forget that. Let s see. Oh, lots of chimichurri there. That s going to be nice and garlic-y. Flavorful. Mmmmm. Look at that piece of meat. I love how easy that knife just penetrates the meat. It is just so tender. It is like cutting through butter. It is like cutting through butter with that knife. Oh yeah. That s a nice piece of meat. Yeah, I can totally see why it is so highly rated. Now we know why it is popular. So this is our first time having grilled veggies with steak. What do you think? Yeah, I think I may even prefer it to salad. It is just juicier and I don t know it just brings out the flavors more when they re grilled. Especially the zucchini. It s awesome stuff. Alright, so we just finished up that meal. How are you feeling? Yeah, it was really good quality steak that is for sure. The portion was quite a bit smaller than what we had at Parrilla Pena though. And to be perfectly honest I prefer the taste at Parrilla Pena as well too. Okay, and what about the price? The price was over 700 Pesos. So this was not a cheap meal. I think we were looking at something over 50 US dollars total for the meal. But you know we are in a fancier neighborhood. Yeah. And this place is really popular with tourists. Yes. So we kind of have that coming. It is a very touristy restaurant. Yeah. But I prefer the neighborhood feel of say a local parrilla compared to somewhere like this. This was a cool experience because this was kind of our first time at a more upscale kind of grill. Fancy spot. But I definitely prefer Parrilla Pena. That is still my all-time favorite spot to get a good steak in Buenos Aires. This is part of our Travel in Argentina series. Dig a large area for the plastic blocks, and include a deeper area for the pump vault. 2. Square up the sides of the basin and level off the bottom. 3. Lay down landscape fabric as a first layer. 4. Lay down waterproof rubber membrane. 5. Place plastic boxes and pump vault in basin and reservoir to serve as a base. 6. Fill in the remaining spaces with some river rocks. 7. Place pump in basin and connect pipe to spillway. 8. Place boulders in area to form the waterfall. 9. Fill voids between boulders with black expanding foam that will direct water so that it’s visible over the stone. 10. Fill the rest of the bed with river rocks. 11. Use a table saw to rip the butcher block down the center. 2. Use the gauge block on the table saw to set your length and a crosscut guide to cut the butcher block to length. 3. Use a hand plane to ease out the edges. 4. Use a portable drill press to make holes in each corner of the butcher-block shelving pieces. 5. Sand down each piece of shelving. 6. For a finish, use a wipe-on polyurethane. Let it sit for about 3 hours, then put on a second coat. 7. Lightly sand down the black pipes to remove any residue. 8. Use spray-on lacquer to finish the pipes. Be sure to do this in an open area and use a mask. 9. With the pipes all dry, begin to assemble the shelf by placing the pipes through the holes on each side and tying them into the next piece using the couplings. 10. Snug up the connections with an open-end wrench. Tom used ¾ inch black plumbing pipe along with matching fittings that can be found at most home centers or plumbing supply stores. Tom finished the pipe using a spray on lacquer. For the shelving, Tom used Karlby oak butcher block purchased at Ikea [https://www.ikea.com/us/en/]. He finished it using a wipe on polyurethane made by Minwax [https://www.minwax.com/]. Zinc planters are strong, yet lightweight. 3. Some large planters have drop-in liners that reduce the amount of soil needed. 4. Heavy-duty plastic planters feature double-wall construction that helps insulate the plant. 5. Install swiveling casters, so you can easily move the planter when necessary. 6. Casters also raise the planters off the floor, which promotes good air circulation and drainage. 7. Clay-and-fiber composite planters are extremely weather-resistant and can be left outdoors all winter. 8. Some of the best plants for large planters include: bamboo, evergreens, roses, perennials, vegetables, berries, fruit trees, and Japanese maple trees. 9. Tropical plants, such as hibiscus and banana trees, do well in large planters. Just be sure to bring them indoors in winter. 10. Large-container planters are ideal for hiding unsightly air-conditioning units or trash cans. 11. Plant bamboo to create a lush, living privacy screen. 12. Create a shady retreat by planting a bird-of-paradise, a palm tree, or a pencil cactus.
