This video is about how life arose and what its main function or purpose in the universe seems to be. Thanks to http://www.audible.com/minutephysics for supporting this video, and to Sean Carroll for collaborating on it! Playlist of the full video series: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLoaVOjvkzQtyZF-2VpJrxPz7bxK_p1Dd2 Link to Patreon supporters here: http://www.minutephysics.com/supporters.html This video is about how life arose and what its main function or purpose in the universe seems to be. Throughout the universe there is a driving tendency for entropy to increase and free energy to be used up; however, sometimes there is some sort of barrier holding back further potential increase in entropy - these entropically favored but not directly possible reactions (like hydrogen nuclei fusing to become helium, or carbon dioxide reacting with hydrogen to form methane and water), *can* be achieved by larger systems, often complex or complicated, that allow multi-step reaction chains that ultimately lead to the entropically favored state. These systems, (stars, whose nuclei foster conditions amenable to fusion of hydrogen into helium, and life, which fosters conditions amenable to hydrogenating carbon dioxide) are naturally entropically favored, once they arise. And thus the purpose of both life, and stars, can be seen, in the context of the universe, as being a catalyst system that helps facilitate increases in entropy that are not otherwise possible. We begin our unit on ethics with a look at metaethics. Hank explains three forms of moral realism – moral absolutism, and cultural relativism, including the difference between descriptive and normative cultural relativism – and moral subjectivism, which is a form of moral antirealism. Finally, we’ll introduce the concept of an ethical theory. -- Produced in collaboration with PBS Digital Studios: http://youtube.com/pbsdigitalstudios Crash Course Philosophy is sponsored by Squarespace. http://www.squarespace.com/crashcourse -- Want to find Crash Course elsewhere on the internet? After attending a fantastic conference in Inverness (Social Travel Summit Inverness) we boarded a train bound for Edinburgh with our buddy Rob of Stop Having a Boring Life (https://www.youtube.com/user/bloggeries) with plenty of travel and food adventures awaiting us. Visiting Edinburgh again for the second time was really exciting for us because it is one of our favorite cities in Europe. After checking into our hotel our day consisted of going out for lunch at the Timberyard where we ate fish, lamb and scallops. Our afternoon saw us visiting the Edinburgh Gin Distillery where we had a full tour learning about the at times tragic and darkly humorous history of Gin in the city. To cap things off we went into a Gin Den where we sampled various kinds of Gins and cocktails. Overall, it was a fantastic tour. After going back to our hotel and taking a quick nap it was already time for dinner where we headed to the Michelin start restaurant 21212 where we had a wonderful dinner and had an opportunity to pop into the kitchen to film all of the action. We re going to introduce you to our friend Rob - a fellow Canuck. Hello everybody. Yeah, and if you remember from our previous videos Rob and I did a little collaboration in Ottawa so it is awesome to see Rob again. He s our good buddy. Almost a year ago. So we re in Scotland together we re heading to Edinburgh and we re going to be exploring for the next three days mostly food and drink. We re going to be eating and drinking so it should be fun. We have arrived. Welcome to Edinburgh. We are just going to go walk to our hotel, drop off our bags and we re feeling pretty hungry so first up food. Food! So we have just made it to the Timberyard. This is where we re going to be having lunch today. And it is a pretty cool spot. It actually has a bit of a hipster feel and apparently it is all sustainable local food so it should be good. So we are doing a four course pairing and this is beetroot and mackerel. It looks fancy. There we go. Now my fish is all pink. Magic! That is really good. The skin is all crispy. These are the scallops. This is the next course. These are the scallops. Oh it is delicious. So good. So tender. So tender, melts in the mouth. Okay, so this is the third course and you boys ordered. We got different things. I got the lamb. Lamb. What did you get Rob? First off that looks really good. This is the sea trout. Do you have food envy? Okay bellies full. We ve just finished lunch so now it is time for booze. What are we having? We re having booze. What kind of booze? Gin. Gin! Nothing but gin. Gin, gin, gin. And tomorrow is whisky, right? That is right but now it is the Edinburgh Gin Distillery. Traffic in Edinburgh is scary. We are looking the wrong way but check out the views. We ve got Edinburgh Castle right in front of us. So we are starting the experience with a Gin and Tonic. Yeah, starting off with a bit of a milder form here. Yeah. Not doing straight gin quite yet. So the cool thing is it has an orange peel in it so it should give it a bit of zest. What is that one at 59? 57.2. 57. What was it called again? Military grade. Navy strength. It doesn t smell great so I hope it tastes a little better. Which one are you trying? Rhubarb and Ginger right? It is time to say farewell. Fairly well. Bye Gin Den. So that was a lot of fun. I think we re going to try stumbling back to the hotel. Maybe have a nap and then it will be dinnertime. And because an afternoon of food and gin was not enough it is now dinnertime and we are at 212121. 21212 and this is a Michelin Star restaurant here in Edinburgh. It should be tasty. Alright so they re going to let us pop into the kitchen and see all of the action. So that was a very food and drink intensive day. I think we both feel like we re about to burst. Yeah but in a good way. We had some wonderful food and great drinks. Yeah, so we re going to be daily vlogging our whole visit to Edinburgh. This is part of our Travel in Scotland video series showcasing Scottish food, Scottish culture and Scottish cuisine. Music in this video courtesy of Audio Network

This is your life. It belongs to YOU. Whatever it is that you want to do, you CAN. 3 years ago, I dreamt of turning travelling into a lifestyle, not just something I did once a year. I wanted to travel for a living. So, every day, I worked my absolute butt off to make that happen. From many sleepless nights, to working jobs I hated to going into debt, I made many sacrifices...but it was ALL WORTH IT. Every thing you do each day matters. Every action you take every day matter. Whatever it is that you want to do with your life, don t let fear or doubt get in the way. Don t look at someone else and envy their life. Look at their life as inspiration to help push you in the direction you need to live the exact life you want for yourself. So we re going to show you around. We re going to be hear for several days but first the Opening Night Ceremony. Things kicked off with a massive celebration at the stadium, where there was live music, dancing, and even a special appearance by Steven Seagal. The following morning we went up to the jailoo, also known as the pasture, where they had set up a folk village so visitors could wander around and learn about Kyrgyz culture. After catching the opening dance, we set out to visit the various camps, each showcasing a different region. Okay so up next we re heading into a camp that is all about Kyrgyz culture so we re going to be seeing some musical instruments, tapestries, games and maybe even some of the food so let s go do that. So we re seeing lots of food preparation happening across the camps here. Yeah, we sure are. We have locals preparing their own stuff. I think this guy has got a lamb going in the back. And we had a really nice lunch in the food tent. We had Plov with lamb. Basically it is like kind of rice with lamb. Yeah. Really tasty. Yum. Yum. So I think that was probably the strangest competition we ve seen. Possibly the most painful. So this guy was basically doing somersaults on broken glass. He lied down and they put like a kettle ball on his stomach and then a jackhammer. Okay guys this is day three of the event and this is the one I ve wanted to watch the most. This event is called Kok Boru. Yes, so this is a really popular game in Central Asia and it is actually the National Sport in Afghanistan. And it is basically two teams competing on horses kind of like polo but instead of using a ball they re using a goats carcass. Yeah. And they re tugging at that carcass and we can t wait to show you what it is all about. At the end of the match, the winning team gets to eat the goat so the animal doesn’t go to waste. It was also nice to see that some of the winning teams shared their goat with their opponents. That being said, kok-boru isn’t the only horse game at the event. There are also horse races for adults and children alike, as well as a game that closely resembles basketball on horseback, so you can take your pick. Alright, so we re back on the pasture tell us the plan for today. Back to the pasture this afternoon and it looks like we ve got some cool kind of sporting events. There is going to be something with eagles and also archery, so we re thrilled to check those out. Hey pup. It is excited. Oh my it is excited. Aside from all that, in the sporting complex they had a variety of wrestling events, that were fascinating to watch. Well sadly it is over. The World Nomad Games (Всемирные игры кочевников) have ended. Yeah, it was quite the event though I mean we ve been covering it here for several days and it has been awesome. And now is the closing ceremony so we re going to show you a bit of that. Yeah, so there is going to be a concert happening right over there. And that is going to be the end to the party. This is part of our Kyrgyzstan video series showcasing Kyrgyz food, Kyrgyz culture, Kyrgyz sports and Kyrgyz cuisine. Music in this video courtesy of Audio Network

Parents often wonder why their kids are so odd. Kids wonder why their parents are so uptight. This is a generational gap. Why does it happen? Watch the video silly. Music by No Sustain https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCuwahe7ErTNMqilUNM-hA0g Written and Edited by Tyler Franklin
