How do lenses work? How do they form images? Well, in order to understand how optics work, we have to understand the physics of light. In this episode of Crash Course Physics, Shini talks to us about optical instruments and how they make magnification possible. -- Produced in collaboration with PBS Digital Studios: http://youtube.com/pbsdigitalstudios -- Want to find Crash Course elsewhere on the internet? Montreal- and New York-based designer Garrow Kedigian is known for his fearless use of pattern and color. Tour inside his luxurious and layered Montreal home that will have you craving a fresh coat of paint. Built in the 1920s by a British architect, Garrow’s home is inspired by terraced houses in London. The 5,500-square-foot space features a gracious living room with symmetrical black-framed windows, grand furniture, a fireplace and a geometric Greek key carpet. To enhance the beautiful architecture — thanks to high ceilings, wall panelling and crown molding — Garrow painted the walls in rich, saturated hues. The multi-purpose dining space is painted a deep teal, while a dining banquette with a modern glass-top table keeps the room airy and light. In the small, but efficient kitchen, black-painted cabinets and a mirrored backsplash add personality. Up the impressive staircase is a master suite, which has a regal four-poster canopy bed, and a charming sitting room. A hidden third floor houses Garrow’s “writing room” with chalk-panel walls, and a guest bedroom that plays with color. More exploring abandoned places! I teamed up with my friend Mariel de Viaje to visit some of the less known attractions in Chapultepec Park in Mexico City. This forest is huge. One of the biggest city parks in the Western Hemisphere, and has many many secrets. I had heard about the abandoned train station from before. Officially called "El Tren Panoramico de Chapultepec" it was abandoned in 2006 for unknown reasons. There are stories that there was an accident, there are also stories there was budget issues. Either way, these trains are just sitting there, rusting next to the highway very close to the Museum of Natural History. There is no fence, no signs, anyone can walk down and see them. That being said, we tried that. 2 guards approached us and said we needed a permit to be there, and that wild dogs would attack us if we came back. So naturally, we rescheduled our visit for sunrise, to visit again. It worked. The train station was creepy enough, not the most terrifying of all my urban exploration, but I couldn t deny it. What made the experience even more spooky was the pile of chicken heads on a burnt piece of grass, and the chicken organ next to the cross and saint inside. Why was there here? The guard related it to the dogs, but we didn t see any. Also, none of the heads were chewed. It definitely doesn t explain the organs next to the photo inside either. Strange stuff. We made jokes about a Satanic Ritual, and summoning daemons from the underworld. Who knows though, something about it didn t add up. To me, It definitely looked like a sacrifice. A big thank you to Mariel s Husband Adrian as well, he helped us a lot these days! Hope you enjoyed the video. In our final episode of Crash Course Philosophy, we consider what it means to live a good life. We’ll look at the myth of Sisyphus, Robert Nozick’s experience machine, Aristotle’s eudaimonistic picture of a good human life, and the existentialists’ view that we each determine the value of our own lives. And we’ll think about how you, too, can live the life of a philosopher. -- Produced in collaboration with PBS Digital Studios: http://youtube.com/pbsdigitalstudios -- Want to find Crash Course elsewhere on the internet?
