The exploding hammer festival, or "fiesta del martillo explosivo" in spanish, is an annual festival in San Juan de la Vega, Guanajuato, Mexico. Every February 28th, thousands of people visit this small little down to see locals tape home made explosives to sledgehammers, and slam then into the ground. The explosions are huge, and injuries are very common. It s a strange festival, and one of the most dangerous in the world This particular date, is day to celebrate San Juan Bautista, aka John the Baptist, which the town was named after. No one can remember exactly how all the exploding started... but at one point it took place inside the city. Those who participated would follow the parade in the honour of the saint, blasting the hammers to celebrate. After a lot of damage to windows, people, and cars, they moved the hammers out into a field. Here, hundreds of men can detonate their explosives slightly more safely. For travel vloggers like myself, it s the perfect place to be able to film all the action. I was so happy that I brought my GoPro to this event. I almost left it behind in fear that the blasts would destroy it. The little things are tough, and we got some great POV video of some of the locals and their hammers. We spent a lot of our time in the beautiful city of Celaya, which is nearby the festival. Highly recommend you check it out. The tourism board there went to great lengths to help us get the best video possible of the event! Hope you enjoy this video. I stayed up all night to edit it. I love getting these crazy festival videos up ASAP after they happen. I still have adrenaline in my system! Ingo Sonder and Andrew Harp are two guys in upstate New York who make incredibly dangerous and risky explosions. Don t worry! It s for science. They re researchers at the University of Buffalo s Center for Geohazards Studies, and their work focuses on large-scale disasters like volcanic eruptions. It sounds great in theory, except there s no natural lava for them to study in Buffalo. So Sonder and Harp brave temperatures exceeding 2,300 degrees Fahrenheit melting rocks to make their very own lava for their explosive experiments. Find the necessary breaker on the main electrical panel and turn off the power. 2. Remove current light fixtures using a screwdriver and unscrewing the wire nuts to the connections. 3. Tie in recessed light plate to recessed electrical box using screws and a screwdriver. 4. Connect fixture wires to corresponding power wires. Splice the wires together using pliers and cover with wire nuts. 5. Snap in and twist surface mounted downlight to the recessed light plate. 6. Repeat steps 2-5 as necessary depending on the number of lights. 7. Surface mounted downlights can be controlled using a dimmer if the homeowner chooses. 8. To install a dimmer, remove the current light switch by unscrewing the faceplate with a screwdriver. Remove the electrical connections with a screwdriver. 9. Reconnect the electrical wires to the new dimmer switch and screw the switch plate on using a screwdriver. 10. If using a wireless dimmer system, mount the remote control dimmer to the wall. If there is an existing three-way switch system, remove the second switch. Place wire nuts on the wiring and tuck them away in the wall. Install the wireless remote in place of the existing switch. 11. Turn the necessary breaker back on at the main electrical panel to turn the power back on.
