Then we visited a turtle breeding center where we saw everything from tiny baby tortoises and mating mom and dads! On this island of Isabella, too many introduced animals have endangered this species of tortoises by eating the eggs and babies. Thanks to this breeding center, they are being raised until they are 5 years old and then released throughout the Galapagos Islands to mate naturally. It was another great day aboard the Natural Paradise :) Learn more about becoming a Patron! https://www.patreon.com/karaandnate ***TRAVEL VLOG 331*** Music: First song - “stay gold” by Birocratic (http://birocratic.lnk.to/allYL) second song - “Green Monster” by Tatono (www.tatonomusic.com) UPDATED CAMERA GEAR LIST: http://karaandnate.com/vlogging-gear/ GET $35 OFF YOUR FIRST AIRBNB STAY: https://www.airbnb.com/c/karab49 Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! Delhi City Guide | India Travel Video Transcript: Well good morning from Delhi. It is our first day of sightseeing. Sam s parents arrived last night. Yeah. We ve got the full group for travels. The squad is ready. We re going to be doing. We re going to be in Delhi for a couple of days. Yeah, just a that is how we re kicking things off. And yeah we just started by walking around today. We re visiting the Red Fort (लाल क़िला - لال قلعہ) right now. All over India. Yeah, so right now we re visiting the Red Fort (लाल क़िला - لال قلعہ) and honestly this is probably going to be a bit of a different format because we obviously want to spend time with Sam s parents. I don t think we re going to be filming as much but we re going to show you some of the highlights and kind of see how it works out. So let s go tour Delhi now. After wandering around the Red Fort for an hour or so, it was time for a little break, so we decided to introduce my parents to their first cup of masala chai in India. From there we went on a short tour of Old Delhi during rush hour, which in retrospect may not have been the best idea. It was a little too crowded to walk, so we popped into a restaurant for lunch instead. After visiting Humayun’s Tomb, we took two cycle rickshaws over to the Lodi Gardens. It was getting close to lunch hour, so first we stopped at “Lodi - The Garden Restaurant” where we had a really nice meal in an outdoor setting. From there we were just a few steps away from the actual gardens, which proved to be a popular spot on the weekend. The Gardens are named after the Lodhi Dynasty, who ruled parts of northern India from the mid 15th century to the early 16th century, before the rise of the Mughal Empire. The gardens contain various tombs and mosques, and it’s a very tranquil setting in what can otherwise be a very chaotic city. Like most structures in Old Delhi, Jama Masjid is made of red sandstone and white marble, and it also happens to be one of the largest mosques in all of India. So we re at the train station here in Delhi (दिल्ली ਿਦੱਲੀ) and that means we are wrapping up the trip here. What an adventure. So yeah that is it for our time in Delhi. That was an assault on the senses. Oh yes. Delhi is a very chaotic but yet exciting city and there is a lot to do but it is the kind of place where once you ve seen a few attractions and you re ready to move on yeah. Yeah, it is time to move on. And we are moving on. Where are we off to next? We re off to Jaisalmer in Rajasthan. So this is somewhere I ve been before. I m so excited to be going there. So stay tuned for those adventures. We ve got a lot more destinations in India to come. Bye! This is part of our Travel in India video series showcasing Indian food, Indian culture and Indian cuisine. Ask This Old House landscape contractor Roger Cook shows how to transplant a rose bush. SUBSCRIBE to This Old House: http://bit.ly/SubscribeThisOldHouse Time: 2-3 hours Cost: $20 for fertilizer and mulch Skill Level: Moderate Tools: Bypass pruners Gloves Rounded shovel Steps: 1. Find a good place to put the transplanted rose bush. Rose bushes like a lot of sun, so look for spot with a lot of direct light. 2. Early spring or late fall is the best time to transplant a rose bush because it’s coming off dormancy or heading toward winter dormancy. 3. Wear a long-sleeved shirt and a pair of gloves to avoid getting hit by any thorns from the rose bush. 4. Rose bushes have a very fragile root system and during any transplant, the root ball is likely to fall apart. Because of this, it’s important to cut the limbs back on the rose bush before transplanting it. 5. Cut back the limbs by at least 50% using a pair of bypass pruners. 6. To dig out the rose bush, use a rounded shovel to draw a circle about six inches away from the roots. 7. Turn the shovel around and dig away from the root system. 8. Dig down about a foot to get under the root system of the bush. 9. Turn shovels back toward the root system of the bush and drive the blade directly under the plant at an angle. 10. Use the shovel to pry out the bush and remove it from the ground. Again, the root system will be mostly bare. You’ll want to replant the rose bush quickly. 11. Dig a hole twice as deep and twice as wide as the current root system using a shovel. 12. Fill the hole a third of the way with compost. This will allow for better drainage and the roots to grow by keeping the soil from compacting. 13. Mix more compost in with soil. This mixture will be used to backfill the rose bush. 14. Place the rose bush in the hole and make sure the soil height is high enough so the base of the plant is even with the ground. 15. Backfill the hole with the compost/soil mix using a shovel. 16. Mix liquid root growth fertilizer with water in a bucket. 17. Pour mixture all around the base of the rose bush. 18. Add more of the compost/soil mix to bring the hole surrounding the bush up to grade. 19. Water the plant twice a day for the next two days. 20. After two days, add a layer of cedar mulch around the base of the plant, but not on the roots. This will keep moisture at the roots. 21. If transplanted in the fall, be sure to trim the bush back again before the first frost and place a rose cone over the bush to insulate it through the winter months. After the last killing frost in the spring, remove the cone and the bush should be ready to grow and bloom. I thought I d make an epic GoPro Montage of some of the best POV shots I recorded during the exploding hammer festival in Guanajuato, Mexico. I was told that BBC had tried to use an action camera a couple years ago and it didn t survive the blasts, and that I would be insane to try it too. I thought my old HERO 3 would make it through the explosions if I positioned it right on the hammer, and hey, if it didn t... wouldn t that be an epic way to say goodbye, and I d go out and buy the new Hero 5 Black, and get that delicious 4k. The Hero 3 plus lived, and I was stoaked with the results This is one of the world s most dangerous festivals. The exploding hammer festival, or "fiesta del martillo explosivo" in spanish, is an annual festival in San Juan de la Vega, Guanajuato, Mexico. Every February 28th, thousands of people visit this small little down to see locals tape home made explosives to sledgehammers, and slam then into the ground. The explosions are huge, and injuries are very common. It s a strange festival, and one of the most dangerous in the world This particular date, is day to celebrate San Juan Bautista, aka John the Baptist, which the town was named after. No one can remember exactly how all the exploding started... but at one point it took place inside the city. Those who participated would follow the parade in the honour of the saint, blasting the hammers to celebrate. After a lot of damage to windows, people, and cars, they moved the hammers out into a field. Here, hundreds of men can detonate their explosives slightly more safely. We spent a lot of our time in the beautiful city of Celaya, which is nearby the festival. Highly recommend you check it out. The tourism board there went to great lengths to help us get the best video possible of the event! These are the best GoPro shots from the festival.
