Ask This Old House general contractor Tom Silva gives tips on installing cabinet hardware accurately and consistently. SUBSCRIBE to This Old House: http://bit.ly/SubscribeThisOldHouse Skill Level: Beginner Shopping List: Two-faced putty Adjustable jigs Steps: 1. On base cabinets with drawers, keep pulls on lower drawers slightly higher than center. They’ll appear centered when viewed from above. 2. To visually check the location of a knob without making holes, use two-faced putty. 3. Use a combination square to measure the center location and transfer that measurement to other cabinets. 4. Use scrap wood to create a jig to ensure consistent placement of hardware. 5. A basic plastic jig can be used for marking with several offsets located. 6. An adjustable jig can ensure consistent placement and acts as a drill guide. 7. Another adjustable jig offers spacing for both pulls and knobs on door and drawer front cabinets. This city was just so warm and welcoming to me, I was super surprised with just how friendly the people are, one local man told me that it is the ocean that makes to people generally quite laid back and relaxed. Duct taping your feet to skateboard is challenging but once you get the hang of it it s extremely fun! Episode 2 of the Amazon Jungle Challenge! Check out the first epidodes if you haven t already. We wake up from our first night sleeping in our jungle shelter. Cas and I put some extra time in the night before making it extra special for the judges before discovering the winner at breakfast. Here, we also find out that today s challenge is the "indigenous olympics" with spear throwing, boat racing, blow dart shooting, and other local sports. Part of the entry fee of the challenge goes to supporting some of these remote local communities we visit. We delivered over 100 backpacks with school supplies to kids in the Tikuna Village. They were stoaked :) Here s the playlist: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLW_NNmw_ILi2zdP9tvrLMOuomRSk82IH2 And some background of what this series is about. A couple months ago, my friend and filmmaker buddy Caspar Diederik and I decided to take on a crazy challenge together. We had finished a giant project in Germany together a few years ago, and never took that trip to celebrate the accomplishment. We decided to try something a little bit different, and sign up for a Adventure Challenge through the Amazon Rain Forest. 5 teams competed against each other for a week in the heart of the jungle. Swimming, Paddling, Hiking, Eating, every day was a new challenge. At the end, there was a winner. The company who ran this challenge is called Large Minority. They have a several amazing race style trips around the world. The Lanka Challenge in Sri Lanka, which teams race in Tuk Tuks around the country. The Cambo Challenge, which is a similar race around Cambodia, the Philippines Challenge, which is sailing, and the new addition was the Amazon Challenge. It was a wild experience. Like I said at the end of the video. I thrive off adventures like this. Leaping out of your comfort zone, into the mud, allows you to come back home a better, more bullet proof version of yourself. Did we win? Did we lose? Stay tuuuuuuuuned! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ♥ Friends ♥ My talented teammate, Caspar Diederik of Story Travelers, check out his films. He also shot some of the video featured in this series. https://www.youtube.com/user/StoryTravelers Large Minority creates adventure challenges around the world. Philippines, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, and now the Amazon. This was one of the most immersive organized experiences I ve had. We were deep in the jungle and I loved every minute of it. We ve spent a lot of time focusing on France and the U.S. as that s where a significant amount of both infrastructure and business models were initially set up for film. But there were other countries adding their own stories to the annals of film history. In this episode of Crash Course Film History, we re going to focus on Germany and how they got a bit expressive with film. Join us as we visit Stellenbosch, South Africa showcasing the best things to do in Stellenbosch in this travel guide to the Cape Winelands region of the Western Cape. Our focus was of course touring around world class vineyards and wine farms in and around Stellenbosch; however, we also covered some of best outdoor activities and cultural experiences such as going on a vineyard segway tour, wine safari, visiting a township and eating a local Xhosa meal. Stellenbosch town has numerous attractions worth visiting and a wonderful cafe, restaurant and nightlife scene. Fortunately, we had a chance to explore on foot and bicycle to see a different side of town. Overall, our Stellenbosch travel guide covers sipping wine, gourmet eating and fun activities for couples, friends and/or families. 20 Things to do in Stellenbosch Travel Guide Playlist: Intro to Stellenbosch, South Africa - 00:01 1) Cape Malay Dinner with wine and cupcakes at Delheim - 00:50 2) Wine and Fudge Pairing at Avontuur Estate - 01:12 3) Lunch at Blaauwklippen Family Market - 02:35 4) Braai and Wine Blending at Middelvlei Wine Estate - 04:08 5) Segway tour at Spier Wine Farm - 05:28 6) Lunch at Hoghouse BBQ & Bakery on Spier Wine Farm - 06:51 7) Walking Tour of Stellenbosch, South Africa - 07:11 8) Wine safari at Jordan Wines - 07:32 9) Kayamandi Township Tour - 08:46 10) Traditional Xhosa Meal - 09:16 11) Music and Drinks at Rebellion Courtyard Cafe - 10:03 12) Hiking in Jonkershoek Nature Reserve - 10:25 13) Biking tour of Stellenbosch, Cape Winelands - 11:20 14) Lunch at Lanzerac Wine Estate - 11:28 15) Vinegar tasting at Rozendal Farm - 11:41 16) Dinner at Delaire Graff Estate - 13:22 17) Brandy Tasting at Van Ryn - 13:39 18) Olive oil Tasting and Brunch at Tokara - 14:31 19) Sidecar tour of Stellenbosch, South Africa - 14:54 20) Lunch at The Bus Stop - 15:58 Outro to Stellenbosch, Western Cape - 19:11 Our visit Stellenbosch travel guide documentary covers some of the top attractions including a wine and food guide (best vineyards, farms, restaurants and food in the region), top adventure recreation and the city by day and night. We also cover off-the-beaten-path outdoor activities you won t find in a typical Stellenbosch tourism brochure or Stellenbosch, South Africa city tour. Things to do in Stellenbosch, South Africa Travel Guide Video Transcript: On our very first trip to South Africa we spent one day in Stellenbosch where we did a wine tour and hit up a total of 5 wineries. It was an action packed day but we knew we had only seen a fraction of what this place has to offer and we were itching to return! Fast forward two years, and we found ourselves with an invitation to come and experience Stellenbosch, this time with a week to spare. Naturally we said yes! This being the winelands meant that our itinerary was wine heavy, but we also got to see sample the food, visit the markets, check out the nightlife and get close to nature. The following is our travel guide to Stellenbosch, pour yourself a glass of wine, sit back, and join us on this ride! In between all the feasting and vineyard hopping, we also found a bit of time to explore Stellenbosch itself. Stellenbosch is a charming town located in the Western Cape, and it’s the second oldest European settlement in the province after Cape Town. The streets are lined with oak trees, the buildings are all painted white, and you have a cool mix of Early Cape, Cape Dutch, and Victorian architecture. And while Sam was off hiking, I did a biking tour of Stellenbosch with the Adventure Shop, where I learned a bit more about the town’s history, and got out in nature, before biking over to the Lanzerac Wine Estate where we met up with the group again. Here we had a light lunch featuring a spread of cheese, deli meats, fresh fruits, and of course, wine! And just like that our week in Stellenbosch was over! I think it’s fair to say that we left a few pounds heavier, but with a newfound appreciation for South African wine and a taste of what the winelands have to offer. As always, we hope you enjoyed this travel guide and that it gave you a few ideas of things to do in Stellenbosch. If you have any other suggestions of cool things to see, eat, or experience, feel free to share those with travellers in the comments below. In the meantime we wish you happy travels and we’ll see you in Cape Town on our next video! This is part of our Travel in South Africa video series showcasing South African food, South African culture, South African wine and South African cuisine. How do you measure big forces accurately? By calibrating your force transducer on the world s biggest weight - 1,000,000 pounds of force. This machine ensures planes don t break apart, jets provide required thrust, and rockets make it to their destination. Thanks to the people at NIST for showing me around: Rick Seifarth and Ben Stein. Animations here are by Sean Kelley and additional footage by Jennifer Lauren Lee. Surely there s an accurate way to measure forces without creating such a huge known force?! Nope. This appears to be the best way, with a stack of 20 x 50,000 lb masses creating a maximum force of 4.45 MN or 1,000,000 pounds of force. I also wouldn t have thought about all the corrections that need applying - for example buoyancy subtracts about 125 pounds from the weight of the stack. Plus the local gravitational field strength must be taken into account. And, the gravitational field varies below grade. All of this must be taken into account in order to limit uncertainty to just five parts per million (.0005%) Music from The Epidemic Sound http://epidemicsound.com "Serene Story 2"
