For the makeup, Makeup Artist Pat McGrath says it was all about the girl looking "simply beautiful." She used browns around the eyes, a little gold, lots of mascara, pink on the cheek, and gave them natural skin. "The hair is very graphic and very simple," says Hairstylist Orlando Pita. It s a very deep side part with a low ponytail in the back. While the girls wear cloche hats on their head that look very 20s, the clothes themselves have 50s and 60s silhouettes and colors. Designer Bill Gaytten says he was thinking about a new look which is why they had wearable clothes with a longer length, with some skirts pleated but still structured. It was back to the classics for Dior, with a ballerina ambiance. A houndstooth print was inspired by the haute couture collection, but it was softened here. The setting certainly gave away this effect--chandeliers, floral, vines, a mirror at the end of the runway--with a happier opulence. This was carried to the tune of a Sicilian baroque effect, which was showcased through capes, black and gold, lace, but a sweeter effect was also brought on through the ever present floral print theme, the baroque paintings printed onto baby doll dresses with embellished shoulders, long hems and short shorts, and the headbands on the models which looked like a cross between gold tiaras and floral wreaths. Even the hair, when not covered by a hair-raising hat, had a high bouffant 60s kick! But while the 60s theme was in full effect here, so was the retro high school prom atmosphere set against the back drop of a mod collection. During the second half of the show, the lights dimmed and a disco ball came out signifying party time! Ironically, designers Dean and Dan Caten usually prefer girls that are more bad than good, but aside from the cigarettes, that wasn t the case here. Bubble gum colors, mohair sweaters, cropped pants, striped mink, and lame made for a bright collection with a happy air. With the current dark, romantic themes currently pervading Milan Fashion Week, this is especially evident and particularly promising this Fall/Winter 2012-2013 season. Molinari always sets herself apart and we love her for it. She began with five Mongolian lamb coats in striking colors like neon yellow, electric blue, hot pink, fuchsia, and bright orange. Still, the collection itself was all about shiny metallics and hologram effects. This came through on puffer jackets and vests, pants with sequins, and shiny silver hoods. Of course, she made sure to throw in her bright white winter looks (her Blugirl label had some of the same), leopard prints for a few outfits, and fur was part of the package, if only here and there. We love to see the antics Molinari has to offer--this time she had pants that spelled out "Wow" and other one word phrases and we especially love the way she always has fun with fashion.
