As soon as you open makeup its life and effectiveness decreases and bacteria begins to grow! Scary eh! Cosmetics aren t required by law to have expiration dates, so you can t just look at the label to know when a product has expired. Experts vary in their guidelines, but all agree that mascara lasts the shortest amount of time and is the likeliest to cause infections, such as pink eye. Expiration dates are simply "rules of thumb" and a product s safety may expire long before the expiration date if a product hasn t been stored properly Any cosmetic that changes texture, or smell, should be discarded immediately. Makeup preservatives should kill common-use bacteria. But, as FDA studies show, a little bacteria is present in makeup before we buy it. As soon as you open your new product, airborne bacteria rushes in. Then you usually add bacteria by touching the product with unclean hands or with an unclean applicator or brush. At some point, aging cosmetics lose their effectiveness to fight bacteria no matter how careful you are when using it. But there are steps we can take to extend the shelf life of our cosmetics and protect ourselves from infections, like pink eye and skin breakouts. In truth when cared for cosmetics last a VERY long time and with care and attention they can far out live the expiration on the box. Get into the habit of washing your make brushes every week. Use a product like beauty so clean to disinfect your makeup. I cannot stress the importance of this step alone. Powder Lasts, in pressed form, up to 18 months with the loose variety lasting up to one year. Makeup sponges don t need to be thrown out but they do need to be washed every week. Use soapy water and allow them to dry naturally before you place them back in the compact to avoid encouraging bacteria. But once a sponge has lost it s original shape, smells off or is shredding at the edges, replace! Blusher Has a shelf life of one year. Over time, they get cakey and dried out, making them difficult to apply, so toss them! Cream blushers will last longer, as the pigment and oils preserve them. Concealer Has a shelf life of one year. Avoid using the concealer directly on the spot, as this can leave bacteria on the product and, when used elsewhere on the face, lead to further outbreaks. Instead use a short, pointed brush to dot the concealer over the spot, then clean the brush using Mac s brush cleanser. Use your fingers to apply foundation to the face. Its a good idea to work from the centre outwards. Great for all skin types. 2. Using a stippling brush. This is a great way to apply foundation for normal to combination/oily skin types. It can cause micro-exfoliation on dryer skin types. 3. A standard foundation brush. This is great for most skin types apart from the driest. 4.. A flat head kabuki brush is a great way to get full coverage foundation. The same comments apply above regarding dry skin types. 5. Apparently this was the secret to kims flawless glowing skin! Playing up your undertones is not a new thing but its something - if you notice she has very strong yellow under tones anyway plus the dress she was wearing was yellow which is no coincidence either. You can also change your undertones to play around with different looks. If this is something you d be interested in doing you can try these few tricks. Instead of using MAC NC30 (example) use MAC NW30 or Mix both NC30 and NW 30 to get a more neutral colour. Look for a bronzer that is either cool or warm based. Changing the undertone of your skin with makeup can really enhance your look and the clothes you re wearing Make Up For Ever HD Primer has colour correcting options - and while they are all very sheer they can be built up for more intensity - but remember the more you build it up the more product you will go through! Known as the classic eye or contoured eye and made famous by Way Bandy and Kevyn Aucoin it involves layering different shades of browns. The first colour goes from lash line to brow bone. It is about 2 shades deeper than your skin tone. The next shade goes on the lid and (if you wish) slightly into the crease of the eye. The third shades is your liner shade - this is normally black. This is a daily wearable shade that can be both subtle and yet dramatic at the same time. The fact that we do not highlight the brow bone gives this a very sexy, sultry look to the eye. These contacts are also known as circle lenses. Making your eyes look amazing can be done using many methods - mostly through eye makeup. Using coloured contact lenses is one way to "change" your look simply and easily. The lenses that i m talking about here add depth to the eye making the eye look not only BIGGER but BRIGHTER. It makes your eye colour really pop. For some people that do not want to wear eyeshadow this combined with mascara might be all you need for that extra "POP". I bought these myself in a wig shop in Cardiff, but below are a couple of links to other places to buy them. Do a quick google search and see what you come up with. You re looking for black limbal ring contact lenses. No matter what your skin tone or eye colour these will make all eye colours appear "more striking". NOTE: Those of you with very small eyes can really benefit from contact lenses with a black limbal ring - as these make the look bigger. If you google some of the asian eye makeup tutorials you ll see these lenses used a lot in those tutorials. FLAWLESS SKIN IN 1 MINTUE!!!! The reason this the technique is so effective is that we are using two things that don t really go together! matte and shine! If you want to hide something on the face then using a matte product is your best ecause any shine will only attract to that area - which when covering acne or redness or scars is never the goal. However overly matte skin can look dull and lifeless but at the same time it usually provides full coverage - something we need. So what if we take the best of matte and combine it with a setting spray - taking away the matte effect but leaving behind the full coverage that we seek? Sound cool - it really is and it takes 60 seconds to apply! I used MAC studio fix powder plus foundation. It provides medium to full coverage and is completely matte. Layer the product. Don t be afraid of using too much. Cover what needs to be covered. Then use a setting spray. MAC fix plus is fine - but a REAL setting spray is a much better option. These will fix your makeup all day and take away the matte look to the skin - leaving you with full coverage to the skin - that actually looks like skin. They blend easier for me than liquid foundations and i just prefer the adjustable coverage i get. Regardless of what foundation you choose you should always looks for one that YOU love and that works for you and your skin. Not everything can work for everyone.Never worry about if a foundation states: non comedogenic or non acnegenic. These are made up words that lead us to believe that the foundation won t cause breakouts or clogged pores. We are all different and what makes one person breakout might be perfectly fine for another. Concentrate more on what feels great for you and your skin. Its kept my skin clear and soft. It was also one of the few things that controlled my VERY combination skin. I originally bought mine over two years ago without a single issue. I have always been very aware of the pressure i used with the clarisonic and as mentioned above i ve been super happy with it. The beginning of Febraury i bought two new brush heads. The deep pore brush head and the sensitive brush head. After the first use i noticed my skin didn t "look" right. Over the next few weeks my skin went from good to bad to REALLY bad. I thought i was going through a purging phase. During this phase my skin not only broke out in acne (spots) but i noticed broken capillaries in my face (cheeks and nose) that had broken. Clarisonic state: "Deep Pore Cleansing: Ideal for cleansing oily skin, large pores or hard to reach areas of the face, such as around the nose.  Gentle enough for daily use." NOTE: After speaking with my dermatologist i was told that "skin getting worse before better is generally a myth". As these (on my cheeks) were rash line it was considered this was due to irritation (irritant contact dermatitis) as opposed to actually "blocked pores". Also, blocked pores tend to take between 2-7 days before you actually see them on the skins surface - my skins reaction was apparent after the first 24 hours. Nothing in my skincare routine has changed. I was not using any other products nor was i using any exfoliating agents (other than retin-a) which i had used previous for the past 5 years without any problems. I stopped using the deep pore brush and switched to the sensitive head brush but i still conttinued to experience breakouts and skin irritation. The breakouts on my cheek bones were not only raised they itched and resembled more like boils. No pus (sorry!) was ever present in the spots. The whole experience has been very upsetting. i have not used the brush since and my skin is recovering. I am going to have IPL on the broken veins (but this is costing £150 a go!) . My skin is still very sensitive and i cannot use any exfoliating agents without experiencing irritation breakouts (that includes a soft wash cloth as well). Its seems my skin is over sensitiveised and needs a rest. Whatever happened my skin did not like the new brush head. As stated i had never had any issues before with the Clarisonic and my results were always great. Its a shame this happened and i m hoping when my skin heals i can resume my daily clarisonic cleansing routine (with the sensitive head) and not experience any more troubles. BOTTOM LINE: Will i use clarisonic again? DAMN RIGHT! I love mine ... just not the deep pore cleansing brush! My advice - with two years of experience under my belt with this machine i can say its a beauty - but i would suggest starting with the sensitive head brush and if you go with the normal/deep pore or acne brush STOP at the first sign of irritation. Breakouts of any kind are not a good sign and not a sign of the skin purging itself. UPDATE: I have since being using the Clarisonic again with sensitive, normal and delicate without any further issues. For me i think the deep cleansing brush was just too "strong" for my skin but i have continued to use this twice daily without any further issues. As mentioned above, its a device i love and will continue to use and finding the right head is paramount. Other videos you might have missed!
